Did you notice him checking his watch at the end of the first half too? There were still 30 secs to play but he was anxiously watching it & trying to get the ref to blow his whistle, perhaps because we looked more like scoring at that point?
I actually think 4 minutes is a lot of extra time, you usually only get that much when there's a significant incident and to my memory there wasn't in the second half.
Isn't it the 4th official who decides how much added time is to be played? And isn't that pretty much their only responsibility? I can see what his point might be if it was the 'lead' ref doing it, but it's not. So it's nonsense. Silly Fergie.
