Arsenal Message Board
I think I wrote it in post a few weeks ago and if I did not here it is again because now it is even more pressing:
The board should get AW to sign an extension to his contract now(last month realy)and if he is not willing to do that they should bring another big name coach with a track record for our style of footaball in immediatly.
If they do not do that we will not be able to atract any big name player(s) this off season and will likely lose a lot of the promising ones that all of us put our hopes on.
How can AW convince Torres or anyone to come to a club he does not even want to commit to himself this is rediculous.
No smart business owner (and believe me because I own a few) would let his business be managed by I guy who's got one foot out of the door. How do you motivate a guy like that? How does he motivate himself?
You simply can not allow Wenger to serve out his contract.
Extend 3 years minimum or go!
Stability needs to be brought back to this club with or without Wenger (preferably with) but now! not in the middle of the season.
If we have to re-build with a new coach it might as well start now.
Anyone with me on this?
Condescending of Fergie?? No ways!! I dont know what he achieved 10 years ago. But know enough that he deserves his place in ManU and EPL history.
Dunno how this discussion turned into SAF versus AW. Both are amazing in their own ways. But both are human and have their shortcomings.
I am not a ManU fan but dont hate ManU as i am not English! (Never understood why one has to despise a team because one stands for the other.) Funnily enough, i always hope if Arsenal doesnt win hope ManU does, for i hate Chelsea for the way they have bought their way to Glory!
I dont revel in schadenfreude. Dont go kicking around someone when they are down. Arsenal is going through a low. But i have full faith that as long as AW is there we can turn it around.
SAF is the best manager in the history of EPL. Wenger runs a close second. They have had their moments of Glory and moments of Defeat. These two guys have made the EPL richer for the kind of football they play and the kind of talent they brought and groomed in the EPL.
Asking to sack Wenger will not only spell the downfall for Arsenal but also make the EPL poorer.
SAF has achieved more than AW. He took over a big club and kept them big. AW took over a smaller club and made them big without spending big.
Asking to sack Wenger is asking to speed the downfall of Arsenal!
I am an Arsenal fan and i dont worry about how successful the other club or is coach is. I just want to see my club play the beautiful football which made me a convert and stay competitive. And sticking with AW is the best way of achieving that.
But I bet Ferguson privately wishes he'd one more European Cups himself.
He still has a shot to be fair. At least it's with great football too.
Milan really did teach them a lesson though, and I guess they'll benefit from that because Fergie knows how to make the most of a defeat, which can't always be said of Wenger.
I love Wenger's old-fashioned sense of honour though. It makes it feel "cleaner" when he does achieve.
handbags guys come on.
Wenger is regarded as one of the top managers in the world. partly because he has been given the opportunity a lot of other managers dont get - to manage a big club over a long period, partly because he has single handedly unearthed/developed some of the top top players in european football over recent years.
no point putting him on a level with fergie, u have to be honest there is really no manager in football who can be compared with fergie due to how long hes been at united and what success hes had over such a long period of time.
Havin said that, united still blow.
got to agree with roon here, allardyce must be one of the most underrated managers in european football. its barely short of miracle work what he has done with bolton over the last few years, its not a fluke, its not coz his side play one dimensional (that might work for one season, not several), its coz he is a very thorough & tactically astute manager with more upstairs than prob a lot of the "top" managers around europe.
Thanks for citing Allardyce, giving me something to chew on. Real and a few top teams in the Europe are looking to replace their managers, if Allardyce is that great why is he not being linked to these posts. In all his years in Bolton, his ONLY style is HOF IT HIGH INTO THE OPPOSITION PENALTY, nothing else. That's why he's not in "low" demand outside these shores.
If you had cited Steve Coppell for an example, them we would be talking, SEE....
SAF went three years without a major trophy. The Ruud left ManU and when neutrals least expected anything spectacular from his team, he won the EPL and reached the semis of CL to be only denied by a rampant Kaka, the FA Cup final.
We find ourselves in a similar situation this year. ManU managed it last year, who knows maybe its Arsenal's turn this year! That might sound like a tall claim but after ManU lost at home to Arsenal last season, not many would have bet on them to have the stupendous season they did.
You kept your faith in SAF we will do the same with AW. These are indeed the two best coaches in the world. And SAF's achievements stand out because he has denied AW many a success over the years.
