  • Anelka........... again

.......... so the rumours about AW's interest in Anelka have again resurfaced - is this because the notorious sulker (or his dreaded brother) are seeking to engineer an out from the Reebok Stadium, or do you reckon that AW is genuinely interested in the player.

When this move was mooted following TH14's exit I was initially horrified, but then found myself warming to the idea that perhaps the guy had something to offer us. After all, he is a proven goal-scorer, still has lots of pace, and is far stronger than he was when he last played with The Arse as a kid.

My main concern however would be whether he might be a destabilising influence. We already have RVP, Adebeyor, Bendtner and Eduardo and Walcott vying for attacking berths - do you reckon that we still never striker cover .... I suppose we don't want to have a situation on our hands like last year, where Diaby was forced to play up front following injuries to RVP, TH, Walcott and Aliediere...............

If there is one thing I am not worried about with AW it is his ability to judge if he could manage Anelka.

Now whether he wants him or not only he knows. I for one would be happy if he came (keeping the above in mind)bacause that would mean we got a proven striker who knows the EPL.

It is still my view that we lost a proven striker in Henry at EPL level and that Da Silva did not fill that gap. He was also needed but in addition to not as a subsitute and Bendtner is unproven at the highest level.

what you say about Bendtner and Da Silva being unproven is true - and you could also make a similar case regarding Walcott, Adebeyor, and even, at a push, Van Persie. None of them have shone at the highest level - winning titles, trophies, and all that. Against that, you could ask - how well did TH actually do against the really big teams.....
Okay he was inevitably well marshalled in the big ties, but apart from his goal against Real in the 2006 semi final, he didn't shine - and he certainly didn't deserve his superstar billing with France at the World Cup or Euro Ch'ships.

If Walcott can repeat the form he appears to have shown in the game in Austria earlier he will hopefully give AW the proverbial 'selection headache' at the start of the new campaign, and we won't need another forward.

However....... with Adebeyor set to be away in January, and Van Persie likely to pick up at least one suspension and an injury or two during the season, we will need some cover for the (unproven) Da Silva and Bendtner.

Lets be honest here guys,Anelka is an undoubted talent.Whether or not arsene really wants him is open to debate.
Personally i think he would have formed quite a good partnership with henry, but we'll never really know now.

I think that we have enough forward players in the squad. The injury crisis we suffered last season was quite freakish.Normally you lose maybe two forward players to injury in a season, but we lost three AT VIRTUALLY THE SAME TIME.Hopefully this won't occur again.By my reckoning we have five(maybe six if you count freddie) forward players, that's more than enough for any team.In fact will Bendtner and walcott be happy to play in CC and FA cup games only?....

I think deep down we'd all like to see just HOW good anelka could be in an arsenal shirt, after all he wasn't with us long enough to really show just how great/good he could have been.

Where ever anelkas gone, his class has been evident , even when with lfc (depite few goals). The only dark cloud over him has been his attitude, he always seems disinterested and lazy and i think lacks real ambition. Personally i hope you dont get him though, because he is in my fantasy football team for bolton, and that would fuck up everthing

I wanted to copy and paste my last answer to this one. But he is the natural choice to re-place Henry. perfect striker, apart from the sulky nature that he has. yes we have enough strikers right now but Arsene has bought strikers who i see as holding strikers but not pure fox-in-the-box strikers which Anelka obviously is.
He seems to have changed playing for bolton, and think about this way if he had not left Henry certainly would not have come to us, and he would have picked a whole lot of medals! and henry would have been Henry WHO!!
