First half our defence was at it again! Set piece black out. What is it with Arsenal and set pieces.
Villa's second goal was very well taken, but again Vermaelen was way out of position, struggling to get back to block Bents shot.
The second half was a delight to watch. Everyone was having a go. Attacking runs forward, instead of passing their way around the pitch was great to see.
McLeish can go on about it as long as he likes, but RVP's elbow on Cuellar was something of nothing. However, Dunne was lucky to remain after bringing down Ramsay. He had already been booked, and could have easily got another yellow.
It's been a long while since I came away from a game with such hope that things may yet improve.
Our defence still needs something. Maybe Mariappa will bring it if AW manages to get him before the deadline.
15th Feb will be our next big test. If we can get a result against Milan away, then Spurs at home, there might yet be hope of a top four finish.
Yes i did like the result i was very dispirited at half time
I am always please when the team try to fight and win but as i said there are cracks and to my mind they are NOT small!!
I was one who felt Mertesaka would be better than Cahill with what Bolton were asking he is looking very slow in speed and adaption to the task in hand thank god Kos has improved 100% to what he was last yr
Eboue played well for the Ivory cost !! which rubs salt into the wounds
Our midfield is not that bad, but I do agree that it offers little protection to our defence as most are encouraged to go forward too much.
I thought Song was supposed to be our DM, but he has been involved in setting up a few nice goals recently. He set up Henry against Leeds, and put Ramsey through last night.
I would however prefer to see Ramsey doing the setting up, or Arteta, but it seems most of the players can pretty much go where they like on the pitch.
Per Mertesaker was brought in because of his height to win the aerial battles but I just don't see him giving it some at all.
PM and Verminator should be dealing with these balls all day long.
The defences positional play really needs working on and most of the goals we concede is because the defence are holding hands with our forwards and not doing their job.
PM is getting sucked out of position to often and someone needs to take the Adams role of controlling the back four and working as a unit.
Much better performance from Walcott (for once) and Oxlade is top draw. All in all the second half is how we want to see Arsenal play. Keeping the ball but driving forward at defences because in todays modern game, its easy to commit defenders to make rash tackles and hence plenty of penalties.
I think the return of Arteta will make a big bifference as will Sagna, and if Gibbs returns and can play more than 3 games on the trot we should be better with Gervinho as upside and praying RvP stays healthy.
Not sure it means we will be better than Chelsea but time will tell. One thing is for sure; every game in the PL is a must win for us until we are back in 4th with a buffer.

No doubt Wilshere's return will be very welcome too, as will Santos.
Good to see Sagna and Arteta back. Very glad we hopefully wont have to sit and watch Djourou in the RB position again this season.
Can't think why my OP got 3 x one star ratings. I guess Slayer, Fab and Dodge still can't let it lie. Heh.
Getting back to fourth is going to be a challenge now. 5 behind Chelsea. TEN behind Spurs. They wont be giving up easily.
