Spurs in Europa League. Us in the Champs League. Surely we must pair him up with Vermaelen and Koscielny. 10 million is a bargain. He would provide left back cover and class at CD. Let Squillaci go on a free or loan him out, for certain.
1 agree-for now
4 cant argue
7 last few years? matter of opinion
8 been quite in market last two seasons, like to think money already being put aside to aid the costs
9 Spurs always had great tradition for playing style hme and abroad. selling your naming rights helps sponsership
10 agree every club should aim for top, but be realistic in the current money mad world of football
Your other points you could be right, all except the last, because unless wenger plays strong sides in the domestic cups you cant win the PL or CL on your present trend of not buying top class.
I think your comment " in the medium term we have the advantage " is correct as your revenue should be a big advantage over us until we get our new stadium, but as we can see, if Wenger or the board, or both wont spend big then your financial advantage is nulified. Wenger, IMO is on a massive ego trip in that he wants to discover young diamonds and polish them into stars so he can say " I built this team through my genius rather than money ", but by the time they begin to grow as a force, they leave because thier not winning anything. so you start all over again. That is how I see Arsenal over the last 10 years. When was the last time you bought a world class player? I think Wengers best achievement was in Henry, because I didnt rate him at all before he joined you, and Wenger re-invented him as a player and he WAS world class. So my whole point being, if Arsenal continue with their current ways, then they will recline slowly but surely, as they have done over recent seasons, whereas Spurs continue to build and grow, so on our current respective paths, Spurs future is the brightest.
Modric and Monkey Face could be off this summer and I doubt they could afford Adebayor's £170k p/w wage demand.
So as strong as they were in the first half of last season, next season could well be a struggle for them again. If their owners push for plans to build a new stadium too, that will definitely hit their purchasing power.
In a word.......YES!
1. We have a better stadium
2. We have a decent team that only needs tweaking
3. Spurs will loose big players too, every club does! even City/Utd (Modric will leave) and who else?
4. We have Champions league football which attracts better players and more revenue.
5. Some of our key players will be back next season - fit!
6. We are experienced in dealing with the pressure of being a top 4 club
7. Arsen Wenger is a better manager then HR or is it HMRC
8. If Spuds move they will need to finance the stadium and not the team, been there, done it and got the T Shirt!
9. Arsenal are revered across europe for playing great football and attracts better sponsors as well as players
10. You are talking about 4th for Spuds but at Arsenal we are talking about challenging for the title, a different mind set to Spurs.
Getting 3rd this season was a success in comparison to where we was after 7 games in the season but this was not our target at the beginning of the season, our intentions were to win it and always is. HR set out to reach 4th
Next season we will be better equiped to put a challenge in again, more so then Spuds.
Everyone knows that if the Arsenal board wasn't so hell bent on paying off the stadium and stabilising the club financially we could have also spent 100s of millions on players and put the club in real trouble and I suspect when push comes to shove Levy will do the same for Spuds and you will be where we are now!
If you was to ask any board in the country what they think about the way Arsenal is being run, you would probably receive mixed responses but in general they would all say the club is being run as it should be and still competing at the very highest level.
It's only a matter of time before Arsenal start winning trophies again!
Yes I can. However, I really like what has been done at Spurs without spending a fortune. I like the talented youngsters you have coming through. You like us are punching well above our financial muscle.
However, I think in the medium term we have the advantage. We also have a talented bunch of youngsters coming through. Financially, the CL and new commericial deals in the pipeline plus much higher gate revenues means we will be able to attract better players. Also playing in the CL is a big attraction to players.
But then I would say that.
You can no doubt come up with a superb counter argument. Pre-season is wonderful because we all could be right. The dream is alive. Naturally in mine Arsenal win the premiership.
There is so much talk of this player and that player you just don't know what to believe anymore.
I think this is what drives the supporters to dispair because we don't know who Arsen is interested in.
Yes we make inquiries about players but that's all they are, it's the press that drums up the hype and we all get carried away and think that's who we are going to buy.
The problem is the moment Arsen shows interest in a player so does every other manager and the players managers leaks out info to drum up interest and the price, hence over priced and out of our price bracket for the ones we really want and need.
But I do agree, if it means paying 2 or 3 million more then we want to but end up with a top player it would be worth the financial sacrifice in the end just to have a quality squad again.
7 years is too long for a club like Arsenal!
Quite simply-Arsenal= De-gression
Lets face it, we are most likely fighting for 4th at best, because Chelsea are unlikely to have such a bad league season next time. Once a club loses its myth like Arsenal and Liverpool, then so called weaker teams are more likely to play with more believe that they can get results against them. You are one of the highest wage payers in the PL but will you attract the top players on your name and pay? dont think so. The table says your better than us, but in re-allity last few seasons theres not been much between us and twice its rested on the last game to see who gets CL. So apart from next season where you have CL, can you honestly say your prospects are any better than ours?
I think Vermaelen, Koscielny, Mertesacker and Miquel plus one more CD like Jan Vertonghen will definately do the job in CD. The great need is for the coaching staff to demand a culture of defensive responsible.
The Ajax/Barca model is fine, I love the concept of total football, but as well as those in defensive positions providing options going forward, we need the same fluidity in attacking players automatically filling in the gaps. We all know Arteta does that beautifully, we need that same culture straight through the team.
Got to confess i've never seen this guy play but if he's as good as the hype we need to go for it and not be put off by the price and wages. We missed out on 2 gems last season by fart arsing about - Cahill and Mata arguably both chelseas best players last season and brought in the cheap option (Mertesacker) who in my opinion is another Senderos or dare I mention Cygan / Squillaci / Stepanov (sorry to upset anyone with nervous conditions with the mention of these names).
