Arsenal Message Board
With the building programme Arsen has undertaken this year it would appear that the squad is at its strongest for some time.
However, all the hard work of bringing in new experienced players wont mean nothing if we release the quality we do have.
Is RVP irreplaceable and if so, with whom?
Is Song out the door and if so who will cover the hole he leaves?
We have been in a trend of replacing very good players with average players but if we want to compete that ethos has to change and change now!
I personally want RVP and Song to stay, but if Arsen brings in equally as good players that benefits the squad then I will be the first to say thank you for your services, now bugger off!
If the squad stays as it is and possibly another 1 or 2 players I feel a realistic challenge would be on the cards but if we sell and don't replace like we have done in the past then we are still treading water like we have for the last 7 years!
I am a little bit more optomistic this year then I have been for some time but the RVP situation will have a huge baring on how we set our stall out this season and the chances that go with it.
As T Henry said 'Arsenal will more than handle the loss of RVP'.
And Song is going nowhere.
As for your optimist outlook, that's good to hear, and there are no ifs or buts about it. Arsenal will do well this season. We only need RVP to have an early season call to his favourite treatment table,( as in times gone by when we had to do well without him) and all our problems are solved in one fell swoop.

so you are wishing injury on RVP dodge?
and he hasnt even left yet
what a sorry sack of sh*t you are gillian
No one player is bigger than the club, nor are they irreplaceable.
That said, to keep RVP would be fine in my book. To keep Song would be good too. If either left, then Song needs to be replaced and quickly, but not so with RVP.
That said, Gervinho didn't display enough last season to convince me he is a starter and Arshavin will be off. (I think that's why Podolski was brought in). If RVP does go, then I would like Walcott to be given the opportunity to play down the centre for a run of games. (If he settles his contract talks for a reasonable amount of dolla)
Defence is where the focus should be now. Squilacci, Djourou, Jenkinson, Mertesacker are not convincing in their roles.
Mexes and Weil have been muted as possible targets, but Mexes' problem in Italy is his wage demand. I can't see Wenger paying more than he feels a player is worth.
