Arsenal Message Board
Instead, it is raining youngsters at the Emirates. Arsene Wenger continues to do his summer shopping in his own unique way despite any heat he feels from the fans or the media. By some reckoning, young Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is the fifth youngster linked with a move to the Emirates this summer finding himself alongside Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo, Aston Villa midfielder Daniel Crowley, Freiburg midfielder Matthias Ginter and Juventus starlet Paul Pogba.
Should Wenger be successful in landing the targeted players his transfer kitty of 70 million pounds shrinks to less than half that sum, leaving the Gunners with a best case scenario of landing one marquee signing this summer, and ruling out any hope of making that two with no serious cash expected to come in from player sales this year (thankfully!).
The latest youngster believed to be on his way to the Emirates is Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic from Partizan Belgrade. Mitrovic is already a Serbian international despite being a teenager, and at 6 feet 3 inches tall is a big boy who is reportedly not scared to put himself about on the pitch. Mitrovic scored 10 goals in 25 games for Partizan in his debut season in the Superliga, and also managed 4 goals in 9 games in Europe and could be a promising signing for the Gunners.
Ok, lets have the abuse......
It's right in saying the club has tread water for 7 seasons and to say the club hasn't sold it's better players over that period to finance lesser players coming in and the building of the stadium would be a blinkered view!
However, the tide has changed now and there can be no excuses why we can't compete for the better players.
The club has more money then ever to spend and there is no where the manager can hide if he gets it wrong this year.
A top 4 is always a minimum requirement but a trophy is now essential.
To show progress Arsenal need a top 2 finish, a trophy and a good run in the CL.
The question is, can Arsen buy the players to deliver this? I think he can!
no abuse just saying We have only bought Sanogo. The others we suppose are possible ideas yet what makes them any more realistic than all the absolute gash we read in "Paper Round" every morning? None.
I know you're very angry for the perceived lack of progress at the club, John, but please lets give the gaffer til 1st of July when the window opens officially before doing anything rash.
At least 98% of rumours pertaining to Arsenal are b**s and intended to elicit the sort of over-reaction seen in your post. Rightly or wrongly so, the media now see Arsenal fans as soft touch and you can bet your bottom dollar that any cheap deals out there will be linked to the club. ;)
If I were you, I'd take these reported linked signings with a pinch of salt. The club's situation isn't as worrying as being reported. Cheer up, mate!

Do you consider that a "perceived" lack of progress?
We have stagnated. And before you or anyone else says it, I don't lay the blame solely at Wenger's feet. We have an opportunity now. Three of the top teams have new managers. One is untested in the Premiership. One has never wielded such purchasing power and the other is a successful nut job, but you have to love him for it.
"perceived lack of progress at the club" - typical sheep mentality; it's pretty self-evident to most people.
"The club's situation isn't as worrying as being reported" - you have insider knowledge?
