Like other people in show business Premier League footballers are overpaid. John Terry is a prime example. In world terms he is a reasonable centre half but to receive a weekly income almost in line with the annual income of the Prime Minister is completely ridiculous. The problem is that once such very high wages are paid there is little chance of reducing them to a figure that would appear acceptable. What makes it worse is that the english national side is full of players who are being paid too much and it is quite awful. I would prefer to see footballers being paid a reasonable wage with high bonus' for good performance. This would provide motivation. I appreciate that the law of supply and demand applies to footballers and that their careers are relatively short but I do believe that the payments made to some footballers are quite obscene.
