Liverpool Message Board
Honestly there is no excuse for tonight's result...
forget the "injuries line"....heads need to roll basically, out of nearly ALL major cup competitions...it's gonna take a MAMMOTH effort in the UEFA CUP.. what hope of beating tottenham with this squad who have clearly THE BETTER TEAM, Mr Benitez not providing strength in depth when Torres and Gerrard are out, no cutting edge after they went, end of the day benitez is responsible with how the team plays and he's messed up BIG TIME!!! But he still won't go after this....rest assured....

126 votes in favour of him going you mean? Or staying, anyway apparently it'll take £25million to get Benitez and his backroom staff to go.... We all know that he'll have till the end of the season, protests will fall on deaf ears....and that's A FACT.
Torres can say we need more money to bring in world-class players but even if rafa had all the money in the world do you really think he's the manager to win Liverpool titles? He's had more than enough money, the team plays by HIS tactics, he shapes it, he's the one in charge of how the team plays and fact is it is POOR management not to realise you need effective backup for the likes of Gerrard and Torres, and the team does not have that... Aquilani and Babel could be those back-up guys but they are nowhere NEAR peak performance to step in for the next 3 months...the solution IS THERE FOR ALL THE FANS TO SEE: MR HIDDINK.....he's the man who can salvage the season....he's the one who can bring Liverpool back to the summit, and no other....otherwise forget fourth spot Liverpool will be lucky to even get 10TH!
I am not a liverpool fan but I like footbal
I am sad to say that I think the problems you have had to sadly put up with from the owners george gillet and co have along side the european cup win (done with Houliers team in my view) masked the terrible buys and mistakes Raffa has made
I ask humbly who in their right mind chases Gareth barry when ou have Xabi Alonso? who in their right mind pisses off alonso so badly that even though he loves the club he cant stand it and leaves Then the right minded idiot goes and buys a proven crock in Aquilani 20 million might as well have bought rosicky from the Arsenal
I think the ONLY thing keeping the waiter in work is the 20 million payoff and thatsjust him what about all the idiots in the back room
the owners and the waiter have left this gr8 club on its knees
the arabs i am led to belive did some due dilligence and decided thank but no thanks as the debts are loads worse than thought

I finally have come to the position where I agree with what you and most of the posters in this thread are saying.
Rafa must go.
Regardless of whose fault it may or may not be, the fact seems to be that he just doesn't seem capable of handling the mess that is currently Liverpool FC.
However, "Alex F" I have to challenge you, and many others on this board on one important point. It's a point I have raised in previous threads, too.
A lot of the blame for our current poor onfield form can definitely be attributed to the enormous hole created when Xabi Alonso left the club.
What I cannot accept is the way people on this board are still placing the entire blame for that move at the feet of Rafa Benitez.
Those of you who can remember that far back may like to re-examine mentally the feeling on this board during the 2007/08 season and probably the one before it, too. Xabi had picked up a couple of injuries, one a foot injury if I remember correctly and they sem to take a long time to recover from. So during the 2006/07 and certainly the 2007/08 season we did not see the best of Xabi Alonso. So much so that most people on this board were calling for his head in not too dissimilar a way that "people" are currently calling for the head of Rafa. Is it little wonder that if all the experts on here were rating Xabi so poorly that Rafa might actually feel the same way and start looking for another midfielder to cover a position that had been very bad for us during that 2007/08 season? I seem to remember reading many, many posts here where people were literally wetting themselves at the prospect of Barry teaming up with Gerrard in our midfield.
Now, the public slanging match with MO'N and the long drawn out price negotiation fiasco certainly didn't help things and neither did the fact that a certain ex-board member torpedoed the deal, refusing to free up the 18m villa were asking for while happily planning to spend 20m (?) on a certain player from spurs that we perhaps didn't really need as much at the time.
The point is Rafa was merely attempting to cover a problem area that even Parker, White, Lawrenson et al had managed to notice. It would have taken a magician to predict that Alonso was going to turn around his form 180 degrees and play an absolute blinder of a season in 2008/09.
When Real came knocking at the end of that season could you really blame Alonso for going? No.
Should all of the blame for the Alonso departure be laid entirely at Rafa's feet? Just as emphatically NO. For the reasons given.
Sideshow i agree we do need to get behind the TEAM and hope they can get 4th place but that doesnt stop me wanting rafa gone. I thank him for instanbul but like houllier he has taken us as far as he can.
I would rather carra was the one who was brought into the management set up. He seems to have a greater passion for football in general rather than just liverpool. Also he is doing his coaching badges (although i think gerrard is as well) and helps coach the youth teams sometimes. I would not want him to be manager straight away but I am sure a coaching role could be found for him, one that has an influence on the first team.
Hey Col......though I agree with you, I got to say that I feel very sorry for Benitez (I dont like kicking a man when he's down....did you see his eyes when he was interviewed on TV...they were like those of a frightened hunted animal who didnt know which way to turn....very sad) but the Club cant go on like this. I agree that Kenny would be a good choice as interim manager, but I'd like to see Steven G brought into the equation too.....a bit of true Liverpool passion, grit and never-say-die determination, which is what is distinctly lacking at team management level right now (Rafa finds it hard to articulate with the Press and I'm jiggered to understand how he manages to properly comunicate team-talk with the players, and Sammy Lee couldnt even hack it at Bolton). The Club now seems to be talking about new investment coming in too, but who in their right mind would want to have Rafa squander their cash and have those two leech Yanks as partners squeezing everybit of profit out of the Club for their own ends. It's catch 22 I'm afraid.....Rafa has lost it but anyone coming in to arrest our fall will convince Stadler and Waldorf to hang on a bit longer to milk the "cash cow" completely dry before moving on. It's just a great pity that the Bank keeps letting them re-finance the terms of their loan......they struggle on a bit further and the Club sinks even deeper into the financial morasse......hey ho I just wish I had the money.....
As much as I would like to see fatboy go now I think we wont see him gone until the end of the season. He could do the decent thing and resign but I dont think he has the intelligence to see what a mess he has made. As for the yanks I think they will be gone soon too. They are really in the shit and will try to ofload the club especially as we dont look like we get into europe. The bad news is the new owners will just be another bunch of leeches sucking the club dry. Our only hope is the consortium of fans and buying the club ourselves, look at Barca one of the best clubs in the world and owned and run by fans. Something has to be done and quick.

DANIEL M...THE SOMETHING THAT HAS TO BE DONE IS TO GET RID OF PUGWASH....IMMEDIATELY IF NOT BEFORE !!!
Nothing will change other than the sinking ship will eventually be sunk with him at the helm...if I were one of the owners I wouldnt trust him with a hundred pence let alone a hundred million squid !!! Not after all the cr@p hes bought in .
GET THIS CLOWN DOWN THE ROAD !!! Appoint King Kenny NOW!!! HOW could he possibly do worse ???
It's certainly geting harder with each passing result, isn't it?
Mind you, if you are determined to get rid of Rafa and bring in a new manager then it isn't just him who needs to go.
I was going to say the team only has 5, maybe 6 good players but again, as each game unfolds I am finding it harder and harder to be able to say we have any really quality players anymore.
Torres - lightweight, can't hold the ball unless he is in the opposition box, won't help defend, no fight, no heart, injured
Gerrard - well and truly past his glory days
Masch - great at destroying, giving away free kicks on the edge of the box, getting booked and red-carded, getting injured
Carra - pretty much past it, just holding on due to his smarts but could be his final season at high level of performance
That leaves Reina and we all know how good he is with high crosses and beach balls.
And then there are the owners. Enough said.
I must admit, I am starting to feel that I am supporting a lost cause, much as it grieves me to say so. And I don't mean the Rafa cause. I mean Liverpool FC version 2009/2010.
Too much is going wrong for it to just be coincidence.
Players get injuries if they aren't coached/trained properly.
Teams play cr@p if the tactics are wrong and/or key players are played out of position too much.
No genuine fresh talent coming into the club means established players get overconfident/slack from lack of competition.
There seem to be lots of things going wrong at the same time at our once mighty club. I am beginning to think it needs not just a new manager but a total shake up, starting at the very top and going all the way down through ownership, all of the management staff, the back room staff and the players.
No-one should be considered sacred and I do mean NO-ONE!

so ajay, are you saying basically that our club offers nothing at all to you? We do not possess one capable player?
I,m not disputing last night was a disgrace and even I realise that a change now may kick start the season and get us 4th ( what ambition to be the 4th best team in england!) But with the exception of Kenny( if he'd take it) I cannot see how we can afford a top manager, and anyway would you go work for those two? I bet they cant even agree on biscuits for the boardroom.
If you could get kenny to take it until the end of the season, that may also keep nando etc because I believe he has genuine respect for the king.
Kenny could also probably work with the rest of the backroom staff so keep the cost of letting Rafa go down.
I think now that the bulk of the players are no longer playing for Rafa and we all know when that happens it's time to go.
The other point that occurs is that do certain players knowing we have no money think they will play regardless of how they perform? Good players do not lose their ability as seen last season ,they lose desire and the right attitude.
Please let's not forget whatever we think of Rafa he has genuinely tried to do the best for us, he may have come up short but he is our manager.None of what has transpired was done intentionally, let's try and show why we have the reputation of being the best fans in the world. YNWA
Your spot on there mate. He needs to go but its just not going to stand by him. These yanks are a managers dream! Rafa cant do anything wrong. If it was any other club or any other set of owners and rafa would be out on his @rse...just look at mark hughes.

The only way ANYTHING can happen, is if the Fans, and I mean the majority of them, setup some sort of demonstration outside the stadium, to say Rafa, out, New Manager in! Otherwise we can voice our disapproval online all we want the people of power won't be checking this out....forget about having money or no money it's what you do with it that counts....
So protesting is the only way to go, otherwise fans will have to sit tight and wait and hope that the "board" sack rafa, NOW is the season that shows what Rafa is REALLY made out of, his 1st big crisis since he's been there...and so far 2010 seems to be a case of more of the same from Late 2009.....Liverpool will be LUCKY to get a draw against tottenham....
