......we'd give him till the end of the season
well we're here now.... Fucking right damn well we are here....
Show your faces, those who said we'd give him that chance, fucking come on...
He bought Aqualini and Johnson for 38 MIL. Fucking ridiculous money .
Regardless of who he's sold it does not compensate for who he's bought, he's bought unwisely. Enough said.
lfcfan...do you not think rafa is to blame (or at least partly to blame) for those players wanting to leave in the first place? He should have done more to convince them to stay. Look at Crouch, he is perfectly happy at Spurs where he is not first choice.
Something I have always said too LFC Armchair. No more settling for 3rd best players. We need to get the cheque book out. If Rafa had the kitty that Mancini had last season then this conversation wouldn't be on the board. If we don't get the cheque book out it doesn't matter who is manager, our top players will leave, they have pretty much said that already. The game has moved on now, you have to spend to keep pace.
On top of this you cannot keep players who want to go like Alonso. Crouch obviously wanted to team up with Harry and I was gutted when he left. Bellamy HAD to go or does nobody remember the incident with the golf club? If Masch wants to go then he should. Keeping players who don't want to put 110% into the club is pointless as their negativity lets the team down.
Yes Rafa has a lot to answer for but everything that could go wrong last season did go wrong, injuries, ownership causing distress for the team, even the balloon!
Get the owners replaced, give Rafa a decent kitty and if we are nowhere by Christmas then it's no more excuses.
Just one thing Colin, on one hand you are criticizing someone (doesn't matter if it's Dave or not) for believeing everything they read in the papers then on the other you start going on about Benayoun being told he has no future at the club...have you ever seen an official statement from the club or a quote from either the player or manager saying this? You're doing the same thing...just believing what you see in the papers.
Peter Crouch joining Portsmouth was an whole different scenario to Ronaldo joining Real Madrid, Ferguson had already tempted Ronaldo into staying one more season which he did so in theory yes Ferguson did a better jon handling any of this than Benitez did with Peter Crouch, remember this was Portsmouth that came sniffing for Crouch not the Galacticos, where Benitez failed Ferguson succeeded asking him to stay one more season then allowing him to leave with his blessing.
Now in the 2007-2008 season Peter Crouch started a massive 9 Premier League games all season I could give you a few examples as to why Peter Crouch left us:
August 2007 - Front pairings of Torres / Voronin and Torres / Kuyt used through this month, Crouch featured once.
September 2007 - Same again, Torres / Kuyt paired off, aswell as Torres / Vornin and Kuyt / Voronin, Peter Crouch featured once.
October 2007 - Voronin / Torres, Voronin / Kuyt, Kuyt / Torres, Peter Crouch didnt start one game.
November 2007 - Kuyt as lone striker, Voronin / Crouch, Torres / Kuyt, Crouch started one game.
December 2007 - Torres / Crouch, Torres / Kuyt x 3, Crouch started one game.
January 2008 - Torres lone striker, Voronin / Torres, Kuyt / Torres x 2, Crouch didnt start one game.
February - 2008 - Crouch / Torres, Crouch / Kuyt, Torres lone striker 2 starts in one month.
March 2008 - Torres lone striker x 4, Kuyt / Torres x2, Crouch didnt start one game.
April 2008 - Crouch lone striker, Torres lone striker, Voronin / Crouch x 2, what were starting to see was Benitez knew Crouch was wanting to leave due to lack of first team football, hence why he featured more in this month than any other.
May 2008 - Torres lone striker, Torres / Voronin.
See above for why Peter Crouch left Liverpool FC, Peter Crouch left us due to the fact that throughout that season Rafa Benitez chose the likes of Andrey Voronin and Dirk Kuyt as better options than Crouchie, Crouchie didnt even make the bench at times and even when Torres was unavailable of rested he was'nt really deemed as our second striker, this is why he left and IMO this could have been managed better.
At the end of the day the players hold most of the cards, so if they want away they will get what they want. Rafa could have been no more successful in keeping Crouchie at Anfield, as SAF was at keeping Ronaldo at OT.
But the real problem for us, is that even when players have exercised their power and engineered a move, the club (owners) have not always allowed those funds to pay for replacements.
I support N'Gog and think one day he may develop into a decent first teamer, but how can it be Rafa's fault for being forced to go for a 1.5M French under 21 to replace an established England first teamer because the board would not provide funds. Or how much of the money we got back from the Keane sale was reinvested into the playing staff? Many complain how much Rafa spent on Johnson and Aqualani, but in effect he spent nothing this past season, as none of the funds raised from selling Alonso were allowed back into the transfer kitty.
We can complain about player power, but the story here for me is the fact the accountants have more power than the footballing men at the club, and that can never be a good recipe for a success on the pitch.
Rafa seems to go for players that the other top 5 teams simply aren't interested in so why do we get them?
Aquilani wasn't wanted by Man UTD or Chelsea, Arsenal or Man City so why did we go for him? Seriously was their no other fit attracking midfielders available at the time of signing? If so I don't believe it !!! Van der Vaart would've been far better and cheaper.. On the very rare occasion Rafa signs a brilliant player Torres in this case.. then buys stinkers.. He could hold back spending if he knows money is tight, then when the next transfer window comes he'll have even more to spend..
To plug any gaps he could bring players through the reserve / youth team which would be money saving and give us back up's..
Arsenal are well known to bring through their young players into the 1st team so why don't we?
If we had better finances at LFC we wouldn't have needed to get rid of Crouch, Garcia, Keane...
We could've had them as well as Torres and if we did we'd have plenty of depth.. As it is we're struggling.. With Crouch moaning about wanting first team football no doubt he'd have been told "you'll not be in every game" or words to that effect.. It's up to the manager who he fields not up to the players to sulk cos they don't get picked..
Had SAF been in charge of LFC he'd have told Crouch to shut up whining...
I'm sick of players going to the press whining about things that go on at our club.. Their should be clause in their contracts that "under no terms do they discuss matters that happen within the club to the media, unless the manager gives their say so".
If a player is unhappy then it's up to the manager to work something out.. If a manger gives in to the whims of players who lets face it get a shitload of cash to kick a ball about They get more money than most people get in a month.. I don't think players respect & appreciate how much of a cushy position they're in..
Did they all really finish above us? Keane plays for Celtic, did they finish above Liverpool? Garcia plays for Racing Santander, did they finish above us?
So only Crouchie did, but how exactly would you have ensured a player who wanted away for more football actually stayed with us? Now maybe you could have actually given him more football, but who would you have sacrificed? Would you have played Crouchie on the wing and got rid of Kuyt, Yossi, or someone else. Or maybe you would have played him in his natural position up front (only Rafa plays people out of position), so who gets dropped, Torres or Gerrard.
But please don't come back and tell me he would have been better than N'Gog. We all know that already, but N'Gog is the back up, the exact role Crouch did not want, so he pushed for an exit.
As for your direct question, assuming Dalglish would actually take the job, I'd still go with Rafa, at least until new ownership is sorted out, and longer term plans can be made.
He did choose to sell them by way of his psiss poor player management they felt they had no choice but to go.... he could of got the best out of crouchie keane and garcia...all by the played for teams this year that finished above us......You keep saying we are blaming Fatlad for everything no one is but he bears a huge amount of the responsibility for our performances he picked the team and tactics. As for Keane a poor buy how would we know he was never given a fair run..Dsteer who would you take a this poin king Kenny or your Fatboy for me Kenny as interim is better that leaving beneathus in charge we only made the qualifing for europa cause pompey f up and you continue to defend him...please
