Now that the chicken farmers have let Big Sam go, how about we give the big guy a chance. For one thing he has plenty of self belief that he can manage a "BIG" club and nothing beats self belief. With Big Sam we know exactly what we will be getting unlike Roy where every game is a puzzle. We know for example that if he comes in we will be a very physical team that will not be pushed around as what happened against Newcastle and Stoke, we know also that he will bring Diouf with him which will give us a chance to recoup some of the 10 million pounds we once wasted on him, he will also sign us a long throw specialist and we can start scoring from throw ins for a change. We also know that he will not be averse to deploying Sotirios or Carragher as makeshift strikers when the chips are down.
The Managers association have described him as a progressive and forward thinking manager and we do need a forward thinking manager. NESV will also not have to worry about spending big on transfers as the guy has proven that he can operate pretty well on bargain players and other people's cast offs. Blackburn's new owners will live to regret letting him go as they will never get a better bargain hunter.
All jokes aside, he really cant be worse than Roy.
BOB B...I think Roy is something of an upgrade on BENEATHUS...clearly Beneathus is taking Inter in the same direction he took us ...straight down the toilet ! He has inherited a side from THE SPECIAL ONE that won EVERYTHING last season and what is he doing with it ? As for my King Kenny tirades...I still say APPOINT KING KENNY ASAP this as Roy isnt and never was the answer...with respect for your own point of view I will continue to agitate for the appoitment of King Kenny
just as I have for most of the last three seasons and as for Beneathus dont want to ever see the man within miles of Anfield.
Thanks Hobitez for enlightening me. 4 times swedish league champions you say (its actually 2 by the way), 7 times swedish cup winners, wow!!!! That is mighty IMPRESSIVE..... that record even eclipses Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola's impressive achievements. And did you say Danish champions as well, it just gets better.
Maybe Liverpool should ask FIFA for a special dispensation to play in the Swedish or Danish leagues, that way Roy can lead us to title number 19.
Little tongue in cheek Hobbs. Jol used to be P&S's hero, and he just could not understand why us Reds did not want a manager who at his best took teams in big leagues to only 5th place (Spurs and Hamburg), although granted he did slightly better is the lesser Dutch league.
Calling him 5th place Jol was just one of the tiny sticks that really annoyed P&S, and really amused me, and looks like Daniel also.
Speaking of young coaches, Di Matteo is full of promise,
I think it is a little delusional to consider Sam better then Roy, Sams done nothing good since he left Bolton, who in all fairness he turned into a cracking over acheiving side with Hierro, Campo, Okocha and Djorkaeff on the books.
To say Roy has acheived nothing is unfair, Fulham were as good as relegated when he took over then he kept them up and turned them into a side that went within 10 mins of the Europa final as well as being LMA manager of the year 2009, He also took a weak Inter side to the UEFA Cup final when it was a good competition!
Here is his trophy collection
4 x Swedish championships
7 x Swedish cups
1 x Danish championship
1 x Danish super cup
You should consider that he also took Switzerland to 3rd in the Fifa world rankings.
Im not saying any of this means he should still be our manager but fans are showing a huge lack of respect if they think for a second that Riijkaard or Allardyce will do a better job with the same tools. Lets see what January brings...
Who my word. I am not normally a sexist person, but mel, please go back to the kitchen. You are clueless!
You jabber on about Roy not winning anything, well neither has fat bloody sam!
Ah this board is becoming beyond a joke!
I respect your opinion and the explanation you have given even though I have to respectfully disagree. Obviously the Big Sam post was a light hearted way of raising a laugh, but if i had to choose between 2 evils (Roy and big Sam), I would choose Big Sam. With him at least you know his football philosophy and what exactly he brings to the table. Roy on the other hand is a hit and miss kind of coach whose only tangible claim to fame is leading Fulham to the finals of the europa cup, it was for that reason and that only that he got the position as our manager. Personally I think most people are better than Roy except maybe Megson, Souness and Pardew. Roy is a journeyman coach who in 35 years of management has achieved zilch, the guy has won just 13 games in 105 away games, and with the Bolton result just one win in his last 27 away games. As I have alluded to in my previous post i dont see exactly where you base your optimism on, banking it on the unpredictability of football is just not good enough.
Personally I admire Owen coyle, just look at what he has done with Burnley and Bolton, if we cant get King Kenny, Coyle would not be a bad choice. Obviously we cannot afford the big names anymore.
I'm an optimistic person in general Mel. If you scroll back you'd see me involved in all threads showing my disgust with that Blackpool result, it was humiliating. I'm expecting a W vs Fulham, anything else and I'll quickly change my tune, because I've tried to be patient but these next 3 are the last straw..
I hate some of the things he says but I disagree w you that everyone here thinks he's completely sh-t, just read the current posts. He wasn't my first choice, probably 4th or 5th. I even jumped on the bandwagon early and called for him to be fired, but right now with no obvious replacement (KK aside) I don't see what to do, but try to be optimistic, or why watch the matches?
As for Blackpool, that was horrible, but I still think we're better, playing much better than that now, and we had Poulsen/Lucas & Jovanovic featuring in that one vs a superior pairing of Meireles/Gerrard, and in form Maxi. I think we owe them one, or should we just mark an L on the calendar and not show up? Wigan shut out Spurs at WHL, Sunderland thrashed Chelsea 3-0 @ Bridge, you think they saw those coming? It's a crazy league what can I say..
In regards to our away form, it's not acceptable but than again last year I believe we finished under Rafa 1 away win in 10, playing like a team desperately battling relegation rather than fighting for 4th while it was mathematically possible..
This squad is avg. with a few class players, & I don't recall managers fighting left and right for this job.. Who would you suggest aside from Kenny? I'm not so sure anyone would have this team much better than 7th honestly. Certainly not Fat Sam
