First and foremost, there's been some decent conversation and discussion about Borini, and I think the vast majority are on the same page with being enthusiastic about him, liking the value, and what our expectations are..
Having said that, the next biggest name (which ironically I cannot get any info on) is Clint Dempsey. Obvisously, as the American here I know I'll get branded bias no matter what despite saying how much I dislike his overall persona, but before going any further, from time to time, I've mentioned that I have heard a thing or two, or a thing or two, so just wanted to let everyone know, and I "CAN" verify this, that my/our golden boy, the chosen one, from Uruguay has been made available, however the fee is extremely large, and because we have the pony tailed one, it's a conflict. I promise I can back that up with quote and commentary if anyone cares to translate..
Having said this, unless we get an overwhelming amount of offers for Andy, Stewart, Charles, Spearing, and maybe 1 or 2 others, we will not get my favorite player in the world, however, we probably are not yet at the level to meet his, and could only be 1 year away, and for now, should embrace the idea of a Mr. Clint Dempsey, who again, I do not like, but truly admire/love as a player..
To support what I had said in other posts, and as pointed out in a very good point by Dave, he is just now entering his prime, which seems odd obviously when talking EPL because so many players tend to fade around the age of 29, 30 etc., but because we lacked the competitive needs to challenge him outside of his USA duty, he's a man in form, hitting his peak, with a mean/ruthless attitude, and one who will let nothing stand in his way. His life story is something worth researching, but that's not my point, mine is more simplistic when talking prime and on the incline / peaking:
Fulham 07/08 - 6 goals, 2 assists
Fulham 08/09 - 7 goals, 2 assists
Fulham 09/10 - 7 goals, 3 assists
Fulham 10/11 - 12 goals, 3 assists
Fulham 11/12 - 17 goals, 6 assists
During this time, the only players worth really noting added to Fulham, if even barely worth mentioning, had been Dembele who's done f all, Bryan Ruiz who's still adapting, and a short loan for Pobgrenyiak ...
His stats, perforance and attitude are in fact on the rise. I think it's unfair for people to criticize him for playing at Fulham because the ball still goes in the net, including against LFC, and for being American which is something no cure is yet to be found..
Some players peak at 25ish, he's peaking now, and he's got the attitude and mental toughneess to boot.. I don't know, nor have anything concrete to suggest he's definitely coming, so this could all be in vain, but I "think" it seems that way, so I hope the Debbie Downers will support him if he does, because either way, "Deuce" doesn't give a f%ck ..
Clint Dempsey didn't to travel with Fulham on a recent tour to Switzerland, isn't injured and is back in London training with the youth squad.. I believe Fulham have made a comment opposing this theory, which is what every club does.. "we don't know anything"
I think it's fair to say he's dug his heels in and wants the move and I think it will happen. Just a matter of finding a common ground between these suggested sums of 10M and 6M valuations..
Perhaps we should remind Fulham that we purchased Paul Konchesky and that could serve as some sort of financial pardon?
Anyways, outside of Arsenal, maybe Spurs or a random German team, I believe Clint will be a Liverpool player..
I recon it was neither a dig nor an endorsement but more a challenge. Rodgers was very clear that he would look at the entire squad and assess players on the merits. Unless a player wanted away (Maxi for example) I think he wanted to take his own look before making a call, and that includes what Carroll might be worth if he is sold.
Since Carroll has yet to meet up with the squad, the most recent BR has seen of the player would have been from the tail end of last season (when Carroll did his best) or from the Euro, when again I'm not sure he could jump to the conclusion that he can't fit.
I personally think he's being pragmatic. If a big offer comes in and it helps fund BR's perfect striker, then of course he'll consider it. But if Carroll can show his stuff behind closed doors on the training pitch, and or during the pre-season matches, then it will take a much higher bid to get him away from L4.
But bottom line, as it should be with all players, whether multi-million internationals, or kiddies fresh from the academy, it’s up to them to force the manager to like them.
So it's official we've made enquiries... as to whether that means it's a prelude to signing him.. thats something else..
Okay, now Rodgers has said (in today's press conference) he's interested in Dempsey and that the club has approached Fulham, but Fulham have publically warned off clubs about Dempsey and claims no official enquiries have been made, where do we stand? Are we haggling behind doors over price? What's a fair price for a 29 year old in the last year of his contract?
If we are really interested in Clint, and why would Rodgers make the statement today if we're not, but Fulham stay firm (not sure how long they can if Dempsey wants a move as he's in the final year of his contract) who else fits the bill? I assume we're looking for someone who can play the advanced midfield, second/support striker position, but also across the midfield. For me a replacement for Kuyt, but tailor made for Rodgers ideas of a 4-3-3.
Just another thought, is there another potential suitor out there (Arsenal perhaps, or Spurs if Modric is halfway out the door). Have we gone public today to try to flush out that other party, or perhaps Fulham want things in the open, and no means yes, in that they would not mind a bidding war if they are resigned to the fact that he's going to leave.

Bit surprised this one's got you a bit rattled.. We've obv been linked for a while, we all know that, and only Arsenal seem the other club to be in the frame, so if just to give a serious guess, I think we'll land him and for the one of the two fees tossed about 7-10M. And, I think we're both in agreement about why he's doing so well at his age, and why it's a little less relevant considering, the lack of tread on the tires..
Anyways, to best answer your questions as to why Rodgers come out and speak about this... about a week ago, some clever person photoshopped the LFC.com official site to put up Dempsey on our official roster as if it were a leak before the deal struck. Then it went a step further as they created a player bio for him in our squad. The next day, Jen Cheng made a statement via Twitter addressing the rumors and stating he was not an LFC player..
Yesterday and the day before the rumors really hotted up again via either the mail or mirror, both the same bullsh.it to me, that we'd reached a deal of 10M... shortly after, a reporter from the ECHO who's at Harvard watching the training said he'd heard the name "Dempsey" mentioned around camp... THEN today, Yahoo Eurosport posted a link about a "Liverpool Gaffe" with the newspaper/website "NESN" having claimed the deal was done and Dempsey was officially a player. FSG own "NESN", so at this point, with all the rumors, mistakes and than that slip, on top of the fact we really are interested, it really left no wiggle room for us to not make any statement..
Rodgers was correct as in any properly handled EPL to EPL transfer dealing saying he's a Fulham player and we don't talk about other team's players.. but we all know that's fluff..
To answer your questions tactically, yes, IMO he fits the entire system to a T, and can play anywhere in the front 6, and that even means if he had to knuckle down and play CDM, he could do it, and would probably be one rough son of a b.itch.. He can play wide, direct, good on the ball, set pieces, in the air and whatever else there is to do..
I think they just needed to say something as FSG, and other club figures are getting absolutely bombarded via twitter, and if they're going to make it happen, as seems more likely than not, it would be idea to have him in for next Wednesday's match at Fenway, which is going to be an amazing atmosphere, and what better way to unveil an American player, who they admittedly are interested in?
3 serious tips on life.. and I'm being serious:
Don't eat yellow snow..
Don't brush your teeth while chewing gum..
Don't use givemefootball as any source of news for your football..
They may eventually prove to have this one right, but you'll notice we're talking Dempsey 2-3 days before they've put up a "link". Their in a group of football sources I call, the "kings of after the fact"
I can't give any confirmation via US news/media, though I did keep up with a reporter who was live at training camp from Harvard University yesterday, where LFC are set up for the tour, and he said the word around the camp/club was Dempsey..
And, also, this makes sense in so many ways, although not be done, or at least not official, it's said that they'd want him there in time for the 25th at Fenway, even if not to play, but to be introduced.. Of the 3 games here, 2 of which I'll be at, Fenway will be our version of Anfield, with around 38K filled beyond capacity and probably 95% LFC fans vs AS Roma..
The NY chapter has chartered some buses to take members up, LFC Boston chapter has events planned, and I'll be headed up a few days early to watch training and see what I can see..
Just an educated guess.. We'll see Clint soon, but contrary to alot of views, he's not a swap for Carroll and I believe another striker will be seriously looked at, if not added. Mind you Suarez isn't available until the 2nd match minimum, and Borini is still a young lad and one who may start a bit more out wide leaving the #9 slot very thin.. plus Dempsey likes to roam about..
