    I am an American who is looking for a football team to support. I created my own message board at http://helpmechoose.wordpress.com/ for people to leave me their thoughts. I am thinking English Premier League. There are other threads I created too, F1, etc. If you would like to help an American choose a team, want to talk football, or want to talk F1, check it out. Not an advertisement, I just want to see what people from around the world have to say to an American about football.     Am I the only football fan who is fed up of everyone trying to cannonise the late George B...

    Am I the only football fan who is fed up of everyone trying to cannonise the late George Best. Sure the man had been a great footballer in his day, and I feel sorry for his family in their time of grief but, lets face it, he was not the type of roll model I would want to hold up to my children.
    Not only did he drink his own liver into submission but he then went on to drink someone elses into submission too. One wonders if he had not been "The Great George Best" would the doctors who made the decision on his suitability for a transplant 3 years ago not have declined him the liver and given it to a recipient who would have treasured a second chance.
    Despite being married to several beautiful women he failed to stay faithful to any of them, preferring a high life of wine, women and more wine and women.
    It seems to me that people place more credit on a persons dribbling, passing and shooting skills than they do on a persons loyalty, honesty, fidelity, self control and common decency. How can this be right?

    Remember the guy, if you were lucky enough to see him on the pitch, bringing you on the terraces to your feet time and time again with his magic.

    to be fair he prob has 5 shots a game with 4 going into row z,he lacks composure,awareness...

    to be fair he prob has 5 shots a game with 4 going into row z,he lacks composure,awareness and tracking back when req at this time,but in his favour we launch it up in the air to him most of the time so we aint playing to his strengths anyhow.he will come good sooner rather than later but he needs to be at a established prem side(charlton etc) where they can have a bit of time and paitence with him,as we are in need of something instant and proven to stay up,fans like him but he frustrates to often !!

    Personally I think Ellington did show his class sent off. Ok I didn't get to see the match so he may have been the best player on the pitch but it would be the first time since he came to Albion. He hasn't played with hunger or desire to win or loved the Albion since he came to us. If he was caught on film a la Hoult he'd probably be wearing his old Wigan top.

    Well I don't know if any of the rest of you saw that shambles against QPR,if we had played...

    Well I don't know if any of the rest of you saw that shambles against QPR,if we had played half decent we would have buried them!!,Ellington only scored because their player deflected it into the net,the rest of the game he couldn't hit a barn door or control the ball....as usual,Kev Phillips should have been on from the start,he would in all probability have scored at least 3 from the chances the "Duke" missed....
    Curtis Davies was a waste of space in defence Perry had to keep covering him as he continually wandered out of position and hardly won any challenges all night,bring back McShane!
    and finally,you may say about time too!,Zuberbuhler needs a long sit on the bench,preferably the reserves bench as I think he should be our third choice keeper,he's so indecisive he frightens our defence to bits,he can't catch a ball,he's like David James when it comes to crosses and his positional sense is none existant!!,the three of them need to be dropped and Hoult,McShane & Phillips should start against Derby or we might as well give them a 2 goal start,yes?????

As soon as Man U take their players back your well and truely shafted mate. Enjoy your success this season in what has truely been a woeful overall Championship (WBA included) and look forward to setting new records for lowest points total AGAIN next year.

    I'm the same as the other bloke on here,I've been watching the Baggies for 40 years now and even including when we went down to the lower end of the league....not so long ago! I've never seen such lack of commitment on the pitch from certain players! I agree with David James recent comments about players getting performance related pay,if that were so for our lot right now they would owe the club a lot of money!!
    It's time for Peace to go after this season as his leadership is taking us nowhere if not downwards and after that I would put Mowbray on probation,if the results and performances did not improve within 3 months he'd be looking for a new job!

    1. Chaplow.

    I don't think I have ever seen a worse player in an Albion shirt, I have a friend who is a Burnley fan and he was giving rave reviews about him, so I was excited when we signed him. At the start I put his performances down to him still being new at the club and being young, but now I have been saying that for two years and there has been no improvement. I would happily pay money to get him out of the club. I rate him as the worst player to play for Albion in my lifetime ahead of Van Blerk, Carr and de Freitas. A disgrace.

    2. Gera.

    The 2004-05 season. The Great Escape. That season Gera epitomised Albion. The underdog that never gave up. He put in 100% every week. Last season he was unlucky with injuries. But when he came back this season I was hoping for that same commitment and drive that we saw in 04-05, this season there have been glimpses of his old self but nothing like he was. A one season wonder.

    3. Ellington.

    If you cast your mind back to the Summer when we signed him, him and Darren Bent were the two top scorers in the league, Bent went to Charlton and Ellington to us. You now look at their development, Bent has scored twenty goals a season for a couple of years, and has won England caps. And Ellington?

    When we were playing Stoke, and losing 3-0 at half-time, when I saw Jared Hodgkiss coming on, admittedly I put my head in my hands in despair. But how wrong was I? In that match I saw a player who cares about the club, a player who was willing to take an opportunity when it came to him. That is the sort of player I want at the club next season

    It is rather ironic that our defence are (almost) the only players in the team that actually look like they want to play and we are leaking goals left, right and centre. Robinson, Sodje, Hodgkiss and Albrechtsen are players worthy of a place in our team, unlike the prima-donna 'Premiership - class' players of our squad.

    I agree.
    If you saw my message, when he came..I said that he was a only in charge of a second division Scottish team, so why think he would be good enough?
    He is OK for our style of play in the old fourth division.
    The players' used to grumble coming out to play for him last season....Nothing has changed.
