Championship Message Board
Arsenal: 23-8-7 - 77 points
Chelsea: 19-10-9 - 67 points
Man City: 20-7-11 - 67 points
Manure: 25-6-7 - 81 points
Spuds: 21-8-9 - 71 points
So, without doing goal differential, which I didn't have the energy for, (though I know we had more than Spuds), here is the top 4 over the past 38:
United - 81 points
Arsenal - 77 points
Liverpool - 71 points
Spurs - 71 points
I have to agree here with Dave to be honest Colyn, and not to cause an argument or anything. I've noticed (in my opinion) that in each passing game, Stevie has played more and more disciplined, and even almost as a true holding guy, distributing all around the field. I even find him more reliable and competent in the recovery mode/challenges than Lucas, where he gets caught out. I think Stevie's tackling and defensive work rate / cover, are so undervalued by everyone..
Jordan ended up Man of the Match in the Palace game, and much warranted because he was a beast in the middle, and while Lucas will probably slot back in, I'd have no problem if it were Stevie and Jordan back there again..
While out of position, Moses has the necessary pace, creativity and goals in his locker to play that hybrid 10 role, while Coutinho is still questionable, and while it lines up on paper and on tv as a 1-2 sitting behind SAS, it could so easily shape into a 4-3-3, with moses and suarez wide, depending on the run of play. So to that effect, i wouldn't put Stevie up there, and only have him roaming up that high later in a match where we're chasing a goal, or where he can really pressurize if Jordan and Lucas (even Allen) are on, so we've got the whole middle sured up.
Gerrard's goal for the 3 Lions was fantastic, and vintage Stevie, but I don't expect to see much more of that and maybe 5-6 goals a year, but for now he seems good as he is. In my opinion of course..
Arsene Wenger has revealed Mesut Ozil has been passed fit and has recovered from the “minor knock” which forced him off during Germany’s win in Sweden on Tuesday.
Hello everyone, i have a league with an extra challenge, you are allowed seven footballers out of fifteen in your team that are not British including subs, the rest must be from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or Ireland. The reason for this is because i think if this was introduced in the Premier League then the England, Scotland and Wales teams would improve.
If you want to join you wont lose any of your points that you have accumulated so far, they will still be valid in this league. If you want the challenge it is Group ID (12458) password (541flwl)
Please join (as long as you do not mind that i am a Manchester City fan!)
I will be checking to see that you are following the rules though and if i see more than seven foreign footballers in someones team they might be kicked out!
Good points there Jason although your view of the game was more optimistic than mine. I thought we could have played until next season and not scored. We were that flat and lacked any ability to hold possession, press and probe. Even when Newcastle were down to 10. Before that we were completely outdone in midfield with Cabaye proving a real handful. Neither Gerrard or Henderson got near him or Arfa. When in possession we had no outlet.
Having given it yet more thought I'm not convinced by the 5 at the back. We become too static, unable to retain possession and very easy to play against.
Despite having the numbers we lack quality in midfield, we seriously need Coutinho back. We also need to get Alberto up to speed. Moses as far as I'm concerned can go back to Chelsea. Aspas also needs to pull his finger out and provide a worthwhile option. I'll also say the same for Allen. We need quality and movement in the middle and right now and we are seriously lacking there. To me it really stands out like a sore thumb. I include Gerrard in that criticism. Fine given time and space but really needs to get on his bike and offer himself more than he does. He's far too static or just somewhere unavailable. I'd also say that Lucas too. Fine just sitting there and being disruptive when not in possession but when we have it he needs to really keep thing sticking over. He needs to improve that to his game despite having a very high pass rate and pass success rate. It's all in the wrong areas.
rooney / rvp / lukaku?
januzaj / paulinho / gerrard / lallana?
help me for my F & M :)
Frustrating to say the least the situation you guys are going through. You would think and hope it would all be sorted by now and the fans given some impedous for a progressive future. Hang in there, men.
Pools have 5 out of the last 6 and things are slowly taking shape. See how it goes the weekend for me, if we can hold our shape and add to it you never know.
There wasn't much singing from the Chelsea fans against NUFC, but there was plenty of them heading for the exits early!
Not sure that it's that different from last season - just that Bale was more accurate when shooting so masked the lack of provision to the 'strikers' by scoring himself. The assists have dropped from the midfielders, and I think AVB sees midfield as the main provision of goals. Not a bad idea - spread the goals - but I'm not sure where that leaves strikers like Soldado/Daffy. I saw an article recently expressing just this - that for this to work, a different type of striker is required who can create their own chances more and work back into midfield.
