what i dont understand is why you and others are so insistant on personally insulting lewis just cos he was hyped and not on a team you support.

Ye - your brief assessment is a good one. Most neutrals would recognise that. The single point about McL management as being poor is sound and it's pretty clear that RD had a woeful season not only in overall team management, politics and strategy but particularly in his man management as regards his two drivers. RD is the boss and must accept the responsibilty for the team's failure, if ever anyone grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory it's Ron - the buck stops with him!

I suspect that there are several reasons for McLaren's failure, just as there are many reasons why Williams cannot get back to where they once were, why Lotus stopped racing, etc...

Tactically, I think Ross Braun was/is the best there is. Having learned everything he could from the immaculate Patrick Head, Ross then added many more wrinkles to the tactical game plan, and he won championships for Schumacher that the Red Machine didn't ought to have won in their early years at Ferrari. Having that tactical brain and that driving skill locked up in one team just ain't fair on the competition.

Ferrari also managed to get their act together with the engineering, as did Renault for a couple of seasons. A couple of astute appeals helped - challenging the tyres of Williams/McLaren when those two teams briefly threatened, and then later forcing Renault to change the damper system taht gave them so much extra speed through the corners also levelled the playing field - some would argue tilted the playing field in Ferraris favour.

The no-favourites policy, though in line with FiA rules, certainly hasn't done them any favours particularly as other teams have been finding ways to avoid adhering to this particular rule.

So, it really amounts to asking the question why no other team has mounted any challenge to Ferrari. And bad management isn't the only answer. McLaren's management has been weak in some areas - but it is strong in others.

And if I knew the answer to all these questions, I think that F1 teams would be forming an orderly queue outside my front door - and I just don't see them. Nope, a quick look confirms it, no-one at my front door at all, even though I used to train managers how to manage for a living...

"People can say and think what they like about Lewis but there are two things that are for sure :-

1, He WILL win the F1 drivers championship, its not IF its WHEN!" (Shaun B).

    May I add: Tiddyboom!!! Tiddyboom!!!

(That's supposed to be a drum roll).

May I also add: Fernando Alonso may win more championships. Don't know how many, but if he chooses well he knows how to do it.

And Lewis Hamilton may also take the title in the future. It's a possibility, not a MUST. This year it was an open goal and he didn't even kick the ball!!!

    Tiddyboom!!! Tiddyboom!!!

Btw, Shaun B, just for your information, the image you are using could very well be a photo of Copito de Nieve, an albino gorilla that lived at the Barcelona zoo for many years until he died two or three years ago. Don't know if he was born in Spain.

first , apologies for the sharpness of my reply...I am just sick of Ferrari fans and McLaren fans only hearing one side of the argument and failing to see that their own team have ever done anything wrong. coupled with this, i was listening to the radio and hearing news of my football team being thrashed, which put me in an exceedingly bad frame of mind - hence the sarcasm.

I accept that the height of the car, and the downforce coming from the wings have a great deal to do with the stability of the machine, particualrly in the corner - and this also impacts on the performance of the tyre, and the relationship between car and tyre. However, wheelbase, weight distribution, overall weight, traction, all have impact. It's not just about the aerodynamics of the system - that's just one of the multitude of forces acting on the system.

My point is that, yes, although you know the optimum achieved by another machine, the total number of variables is such that it ain't as simple as simultaneous equations, which is what your proposition would suggest. There are just too many variables for this to be the case.

I think the English would be oversteer and understeer - the desirable process being that the car goes where your point it without either the front of the back ends stepping out of line.

I studied physics as well as the Maths, though not to the same level, and I know that they share a lot of common ground - but Maths comes into most of the sciences and science related subjects like engineering somewhere along the way.

I admit that i have a problem with Ferrari -but thats based on my real-life experiences with Fiat. I have said elsewhere how pleased I am that Kimi won the championship this season - so I can't be totally obsessed either...

It used to be an aspirational, performance brand.

A cash injection with some rear wheel drive platforms and a racing progam could work.

Thanks for the Guonod info, Petrus. I`ll certainly give it a try.
I`ve already tried several in Nice having stayed there before (Mercure, we have an Accor card) &, as you said, trained into Monaco.
A friend, who is much more fluent in Italian than I, has tried Ventimiglia with no luck, either.
There`s a new Accor hotel opened in Monaco itself but what`s the bet that it will be full of the Accor Group top bods for race weekend ? ;-)

Give a sportsperson twenty minutes of fame and the autobiography will surely follow.

What amazes me - there are at least ten biographies of Lewis Hamilton out there as well as his own autobiography - which demonstartes more than any other single thing the amount of hype surrounding the guy.

He's 22 years old, for god's sake. If he lives a full ana ctive life, does this mean we'll end up with his autobiography in six volumes - one every ten years of roughyl public life - and ten times as many biograhpies.

There goes the rest of the rain forest...

May have been "bad" not "ban", though.

Max Mosley was saying that LH, if he proves as successful as Michael Schumacher, could be bad for the sport.
When one driver becomes dominant Max starts getting emails from people saying "You`ve got to find some way of slowing him down".
