Never bitten my fingers before that game!
With a point against Villa (should have been 3) and apoint against the Arsenal (could have been 3) I think that is a great return against 2 of the top 7 teams considering Villa have spanked us a few times at theirs recently as well as Arsenal, they do 4´s, 5´s and 7 for fun against us.
The footbal in the second half against Arsenal was a bit negative, we got pinned back and swapped, but with confidence a bit shakey from the FA cup, plus the midfield 2 were never going to go on mazy forward runs, it was a great overall result and 4 points from the Gunners, no one else has yet managed it this year!
The football is improving at Boro, sometimes it feels like 1 forwards and 2 back but we are picking up key points against good teams. We should have picked up points at Liverpool and Reading was a bit unfortunate too.
Derby next, hopefully 3 points. Then into a tough run of Man U Chelsea and Spurs. I dont think there is any need to fear these teams, infact I think Man U and Chelsea should be worried about us!
We owe United one and it would be great to keep the league race open by triping up the next big team! -

Now then Mick, I do have to admit the time when you lads played Barcelona and drew 3-3 was one of the best games I have seen in the CL. Asprilla's hatrick was superb.

I agree, we all make mistakes in our younger days and should at least get the chance to turn things around for the better. A bit of bird may make him realise what a pr@t he's been and he could come back all the better for it. If he drops a bollok again though wash your hands of the lad.

53,000 Geordies meet in St James Park for a "Geordies Are Not Stupid"
convention.
Alan Shearer addresses the crowd "We are all here today to prove to the
world that Geordies are not stupid. Can I have a volunteer please ?" Gazza
gingerly works his way through the crowd and steps up to the stage.
Shearer asks him "What is 15 plus 15?" After 15 or 20 seconds Gazza
says,"Eighteen!"
Obviously everyone is a little disappointed. Then the Geordies start
chanting "Give him another chance! Give him another chance!"
Shearer says "Well since we have a capacity crowd, world-wide press and
global broadcast media here, I think we can give him another chance. So he
asks "What is 5 plus 5?" After nearly 30 seconds Gazza eventually
says,"Ninety?"
Shearer looks down and just lets out a dejected sigh. Everyone is
disheartened and Gazza starts crying.
But then the 53,000 Geordies begin to yell and wave their hands shouting
"GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE! GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE!"
Shearer, unsure whether he is now doing more harm than good eventually says,
" What is 2 plus 2?"
Silence hangs over the stadium. Gazza closes his eyes, and after a whole
minute eventually says, "Four?"
Pandemonium breaks out throughout the stadium as the Geordie crowd stand to
a man, wave their arms, stomp their feet and scream .............
"GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE! GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE!"
Note - got this off my gf, who got it off her dad who supports Newcastle and who is a Geordie -

Agreed, a good holding midfielder who got stuck in when it mattered, reminded me of another local lad & ex boro player Jamie Pollock.
I think the problem was that he wasnt getting enough games, at the time we did have similar midfield players like Boateng...who we sold to Hull...er...perhaps we should have kept one of them at least. -

Can't hide from the fact that overall I think Newcastle deserved the win, at the end of the day it's all about how many you score and how few you conceed and as has been Boros problem all season they conceed more than they score. 3-1 did flatter Newcastle a little, Boro did look good on the counter but totally toothless in the final 3rd and no question really that Nolan was offside and interferring with play for Martins goal but you play to the whistle no matter what and Boro didn't do that.
Overall this season has been disaster after disaster and if it hadn't been for the LFC result Boro would have been relegated by now. I'm not a Boro fan btw, but I live in the area so to see them teetering on the edge is very very sad, especially on the back of whats happening in the local industrial sector. I can't see anyway back for them should the inevitable happen. Too many of their better players will leave rather than play Championship football and for no where near the money they maybe should go for. The crowds will be down next season, simple economic factors tell you that. The Evening Gazette frontpage headline last Friday was 'A Black Day For Teesside' they could very easily transfer that headline to the backpage for todays edition.
Congratulations to the Toon on their win, they showed great desire and determination to come back from the early goal. While not safe by any means yet, you have to think 1 more win or 2 draws will be enough given the difficulty of Boro's and Hull's remaining 2 fixtures. I predicted back in March that the bottom 3 would indeed be West Brom, Boro and Hull and I take no comfort out of the fact my prediction is looking like it's coming true.
A sad sad day for the town. I'm sure recriminations and finger pointing will follow with blame apportioned here there and everywhere, simple facts are Boro have not been good enough this season and deserve to be where they are. -

Been trying to shove this to the back of my mind for weeks now but it's becoming more evident as the weeks tick by.
Steve Gibson's stuck with Southgate allowing the guy to talk a good talk while the ship is sinking. With the players at the Boro at his disposal I'm confident some other guy could have kept the Boro up.
Leading me to the opinion that maybe the drop is being accepted because of behind the scenes money problems which are more serious than we believe.
Problem is though, 3 or 4 of the best players will be on their way, Downing, Wheater, Tuncay, Aliadiare, possibly Johnson--then what? -

Would like to point out that some of those you mentioned are currently attached to Premiership Clubs are you can bet your bottom quid there's no way they will want to drop down to the Championship. As for Saviola, can I have a pint of what you were drinking when his name popped into your head please fella!!!! Do you think any Spanish player will leave a club of Real's stature, history and more importantly their playing rights ie C/L etc to play for the Boro.....got more chance of signing Carlos Tevez!!!!!!! Basically you wouldn't get 1 single player you mentioned there at the Boro even if they were still in the P/L full stop!!!

Some fair points there KH but for me isn't much different from Southgate who I believe could go to Celtic or Rangers and win a cuboard full of trophies.
Southgate was found out but only after a lengthy period of bluff and unfortunately I think that not much will change after the Strachan appointment.
OK. I agree he'll must be given time but at the end of it Mb will be o further forwards and I think he'll go the same way as Gareth after he's exposed or he'll go walkies into retirement. -

It was truly a sad day for F1 and did it no favours with the US motor sport fans or F1 fans worldwide. I was appalled at the teams basically stitching each other up, we won’t drive then we will drive and for not standing together on the issue and recognising that solidarity is the best policy and the track management for being so lame and slow to react to such a potentially serious situation. I am amazed that the race, if you can actually call it that, went ahead and that the results are being counted towards standings when the majority of teams and drivers where not in the proceedings. I hear some teams are now proposing a good suing, not sure if this will actually help F1 or not?

Alonso is a good driver, there is no question, however what he proved this year is that reliablity plays too large of a role in the championship. The points system needs to be reviewed and there needs to be a lager gap between 1st and 2nd then between 2nd and 3rd.
Who will win on 2006? Right now the favorite has to be McLaren, but the real questions is who will have the best V8. What Micheal proved this year is that no matter how good you are, the package must be there (tires, areo, engine, etc) for you to win.
The only thing we know for sure about next season is that there will be another shuffle. How the cards will fall still remains to be seen. -

Hello, I don´t think it. If Alonso this season was a Mclaren driver, Alonso maybe had won the Championship in the middle of the competition (like Shumi past year). Mclaren had with a big difference the fastest car, but Montoya and Raikkonen didn´t drive with care, with security, so I don´t think at all that Montoya or Raikkonen are better drivers than Alonso, probably faster drivers, but a big driver, like Shumi, is fast and sure, and Alonso is like him.
The level of Renault is easy to see with the puntuation of Fisichella; Alonso is really fast and sure driver, and probably when he has a good car (I think Renault not is Mclaren or Ferrari) we speak about a great champion.
