Everton Message Board
Spot on Hobs. My observations exactly. One problem with 3 at the back is the wing backs or wide midfielders push higher, making the out ball harder. That puts pressure on Gerrard an Lucas to be available, which they aren't. if they get the ball they need another outlet and that remains a problem too.
i didn't see the game as I was completely off grid but it sounds awful. We still haven't been able to shake the dead wood out of the squad. There were / are too many that shouldn't be there and managed to hang on for whatever reason. It's not good.
Moses dear me. Chelsea don't off load players for no reason.
Lucas the same in my book. He's not suited to the PL. That's being polite
What irks me the most, is the lack of time given to Luis Alberto above all of them. Sevilla really did not want to sell him, but their hand was forced, and he was the standout for Barca B, along with Delofeu (tearing it up for Everton). He plays the 10 spot and wide in a 4-3-3, so if Coutinho is hurt, Allen isn't preferred, then play him. He can only get so good in training and indoor matches, vs. those who get real game time.
As for the overall transfers, I tend to be more liberal and fair to Rodgers because he showed outrageous ambition this past summer with desperately wanting Mkhitaryan, Willian, and Diego Costa (La Liga's leading scorer) and couldn't get any of the 3 due to funds and lack of CL. This is why we took Moses on the last day/hours of the window.
This January (and what we do up til then) is the most critical period in many a year. There are players out there, who have dropped out of the CL, and some not in any European contention whatsoever, and it's vital that we get the 2-3 of them, early, done and dusted.
If that's not the case, then Alberto, Aspas, Allen, should all be playing, and working their socks off to state their case, along with Sterling and Ibe. There should be very little rotation at the back, just look at Arsenal, a club notorious for being fragile and frail back there, with doubts over Koscielny's size/strength, and Mertesacker's pace and ability, yet they've started almost every game together, and I think have 2nd best Defense in the prem, with out a real class CDM.. Skrtel/Agger or Sakho, end of
I'll keep banging on in the vain hope that Rodgers will find this forum and take note of what I'm saying ;o)
Defensively with everyone fit we're OK at the back. we need cover at full back yes but 2 out of Skrtel, Agger and Toure is a damn fine partnership at any level in the middle. Sahkho and Cissokho need to catch up.
I think any of those three are fine bringing the ball out provided they have an outlet which at the moment on numerous occasions they don't. I've been harping on about a midfield general for years now and I'm still waiting. It's even more apparent to me that we need one if we have serious CL ambitions. In that I mean qualifying for next years competition and being able to sustain qualification year on year. One fleeting visit is no good.
Sort the midfield Brendan even if it means dropping Gerrard for the greater good then fine. We are weak in that area and cannot control games because of it. Give the defenders someone to find with the ball, give the forwards someone to run off, get control of possession.
hi Dsteer. We've seen this in every game and I find it a real worry. Moses has no excuses he wasn't away. Agreed there was no energy at all. Very flat. My biggest problem is that we are very easy to play against and we play in a way that typifies a team near relegation. Sit back and let them come on and not enough quality to dominate the game outright. That will mean that we will lose more games soon and it may start a worrying trend.
I saw a snippet of the Villa vs Tottenham game on Sunday. The difference in quality from both sides was staggering. Both Villa and Tottenham showed ability to keep the ball at times and push forward pressing the opposition back. We just sit there and wave our arms about when there's a bad pass forward, it's miss controlled or actually there's no one available. I saw that too, more than once as well.
This will not bode well going forward mark my words. The slope may more slippery with the risk of losing Suarez at Christmas etc. I am honestly worried and appalled by what I'm seeing.
I know I'm talking tough but as I said I see an opportunity and I want the club to grasp it. Not roll over in a whimper as we've done before. The problem is that you can often get shouted down for having an opinion against one of the darlings.
Fair point on Barry. I thought he was excellent until he moved to right back. Everton lost something in midfield at that point. While I can see why Rodgers pushed Moses we may have lost more in the middle and we did lose a goal as a result. Could have lost more as Lukaku steamed through once as did the other Everton chap who I have no chance of typing his name.
They are fair points and perhaps balance is a key here. I cant think of many if not any PL midfielders at the moment that are at a level that makes me look twice. Ramsey perhaps but I have a biased Welsh view and he is the type of player I like to watch. Toure when on pomp too I guess. I'm begging for a midfielder who will sit there in the middle and dictate games. Allow Gerrard to do what he does best and that is cause problems from unexpected areas. I like what Allen can do (apart from miss sitters) but he's not that player either.
Rodgers tactics demand a fast paced game with plenty of movement and passing. We don't do it. When I watch a game one of the first things I look for is how a team keeps hold of the ball and manages possession (with and without the ball). Everton did it better than us on Saturday and to me that isn't a good thing. Honestly we haven't done that all season either.
Tactics are interesting and yes flexibility is important. But to what extent is my concern. I don't we've got our Plan A sorted 100% yet but we've seen a number of different shapes already this season. I think that takes something away from the team. I think there's been plenty of evidence to make that point. I like the idea of having one system, "this is what we do, you counter it" Rather than trying to out think the opposition just out play them.

Mr Ultimate Urangacowboy,,Metal Head, Conference Calling, Piglet...
...you and Mr Kipper are so alike...I'd swear you were twins if I didn't know different...he's a creepy, wormy, slimy, twisted, internet stalking ,little lying maggot....and if anyone is "thumbing you down"...it's him...manipulating you....in honesty...I never thought I be warning a troll like you...but Kipper's a board killer...he makes you look like an armature....
..anyways...back to the banter...I didn't say I was going to stop replying...I just said maybe I should do...like everyone else does...but that I felt sorry for you...
...and of course you can have the last line...I'll even give you a selection to choose from...
"Goodbye, Goodbye...we're leaving you...Goodbye"
"I'm going outside now...I could be gone for some time"
"It's a far, far better thing I do"
"Oh, good. For a moment there I thought we were in trouble"
"I was home. What happened? What the hell happened?"
...or you could always try the famous..."Yes Dear"....
The Ten Pound Pom, Outback Cobwoy is definitely still around, he's been reporting messages and getting them deleted over on his beloved Moanchester Uniturd board.
Once a snitch, always a snitch, it's typical plastic, online keyboad warrior, Man U fan behaviour.
oh i dunno, i hear your wife could give me a run for my money hahahahahahaha
dont worry though im not fussy and still managed to cum up her fat dirt box
Mr John clone...
...I doubt Mr MCM (aka Slayer) has the intellect to do anything more than change his ID but still post as he does...which is eminently recognisable....*sigh*
....just like Mr Fab and Mr Dodge and the Geordie troll....;)
...Mr Gunner is a "concern troll"....and he's very clever...ergo.... he can't possibly be Mr Slayer..:).
Mr Other John....
I stand corrected....you appear to know Mr MCM much better than I do....
...but if Mr MCM posts as an Arsenal supporter....who spends most of his time abusing Man U supporters...
...then posts as "Gunner"....an Arsenal supporter who is not very subtly putting Arsenal down....I'd say that's a concern troll....with a complicated, conflicted psyche....which will probably implode at some point....much like Mr Dodge....who is apparently unable to remember his primary identity....
...I don't think I ever said you were a troll, Mr Other John... I will admit to thinking...and having said...that you were a clone of Mr Grumpy John...and I felt I had to defend him...God knows why....:(
...as for your butt...I'm sure it's very nice as it is and I'll not try to interfere with that in any way...
...besides....my fella would get aggravated...

Jacob. I hear he enjoys a good spanking! lol
Orangutan! Spanking! Spanking The Monkey! lol (Is it a Monkey, or a Gorilla. Is a Monkey different to a Gorilla or is a Gorilla a large Monkey)?
Update Sfer; you lot also know Arsenal are 7 points clear at the very top of the Prem this morning.
(sorry chaps, I couldn't resist!)
And deservedly so Fab. Your lot are playing really well, full of confidence which is what happens when winning, and Ramsay is an unexpected source of goals. Can you keep it up? Not sure, especially if you get a couple of injuries as you don't have much depth in the squad but at the moment....credit where it is due!
"So I left a message unanswered, did I?"...yes, you did Mr OINK OINK!
...the point being that you ignored it....while playing the chauvinist pig who huffed and puffed and responded with childish drivel on this board...
....and don't try to tell me that you didn't peek.at the Man U board...:)....you're the only poster on it now...apart from me...and I'm giving you the attention you crave...which you don't seem to be enjoying...?
....it's all so very strange....at least you have a little troll friend on here...you should be happy...:)
..."Now, get back on the Man Spew board where you belong"...you're so masterful...and quite threatening...what would you do if I said that I shan't...?...because I won't...:)
....and all I'm waiting for is the day you don't reply...on either board...and find a new little rock to crawl under...
...which reminds me.....you've still not responded on Man U...I thought you wanted to torment me and wind me up...?...must try harder...:)
...btw...sorry if I put you off posting first thing in the morning...but it did make you seem a little bit desperate....you seem less obsessed now...well done...;)
I was truly amazed how average this current Moyes' Man U side were in front of their OWN fans today having not seen any game by them prior to this game. Given the quality of rivals squad (Southampton, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Man City) ahead of them in the league I'd be surprised if they qualify for CL football next season. They got a lucky today, and Arsenal were clearly knackered having played a strong and superior Liverpool and Dortmund sides in the last 7 days before this match. Our injuries didn't help either.
