If a driver is always correct and honest, he reacts against injustice with elegance. I'm Ayrton fan and Schumacher fan too.
Ayrton has been often accused by the others drivers of a behaviour which were over the limit of correctness. In Monaco 1986, during qualifying session, he slowed down to obstruct the others, as for example Michele Alboreto.
Also Mansell said that Ayrton was a dangerous driver.
So, I mean that in F1 greatest drivers are not like a Saint.
    F1 insn't for girls.

You wrote Schu has always been in superior car, I disagree. In 2000 McLaren mp4-15 was stonger than F1-2000, but Michael won that champ. And so, do you know a driver that would have won a championship with a crap car? Ayrton's MCLs 1988, 1990, 1991 were great cars as ferraris driven by Schu in 2001,2002,2003,2004.

I'm as big of a fan of Senna as you, but from the timeline, F1 didn't make public the news about Senna's death until almost 2 hours after the race. Either way, they didn't do the champagne spray on the podium out of respect for Roland Ratzenberger's death.

Yes! And I am proud to say I was in the 3% ! As far as I am aware, and according to Pat Symonds, Fernando Alonso made just one driving error in the last two years. This is one of those unpublished statistics which is for me, far more impressive than a string of results which may have been achieved through unsporting means. Alonso is a sportsman. He wants it for real. No fixes. No team orders. No cheating. Just pure, consistently good driving...

Yeah I kinda agree with you... I felt so sad to see Massa out to the gravel when he was making a move to pass Hamilton. I got the feeling that he would not be world champion in f-1. Since the last part of last season I had a strong feeling that he could be a world champion, but unfortunately... he didn't show it in the last race in Sepang...

    However, bravo Ferrari...

you are almost right..in todays race Alonso would have won easily if not for the blunder at the start, yes, these things happen but how long before the "good of the team," comes forth and puts the rookie in his place. The grass and gravel in the face of Alonso was not appreciated either I would imgine..the rookie will have a learning curve for sure, hopefully not to the expense of Alonso.

Ferrari are good no dought about it and it is a toss up in the constructor which will be deterimined by the drivers, McL could have been 1 & 3 today instead of 2 & 3, both teams have excellelnt drivers as we all agree

    True very true.

Its sad that the if you're not with Ferarri, McLaren or Renault, you aren't going on the podium. I love F1 still just because its the pinnacle of racing technology. If it is a pure question on racing though, the series to watch is NASCAR.

Just as an aside, I think one of the reasons that F1 can't quite catch on in America, besides only one American driver, is because they are sooo secretive. They don't let the fans in, their audio communications are encrypted and so forth. It keeps fans at a distance and we Americans don't like that.

    Thanks Gmorin.

I too like the modifieds. I go to a local track here in NWest Virginia, 0.5mile, mods, late models, and pure stocks on good ole Virginia Topsoil (red clay!) I also like the SCCA races at Summit Point WV. They do a 3 day event on Labor Day. $25 for all 3 days. 8 to 10 hours of racing per day! Everything from Pintos to Formula Fords. It is fantastic! Best bang for the buck in my book!

I think a lot of Europeans think that because we Americans watch NASCAR, and it's the most popular racing league in the US, that is all we enjoy. I think they don't fully understand the lack of TV coverage for other (F1, Champ, Rally, etc..) series, particularly those from Europe. To me, it's simply a lack of understanding of what we all get to watch. To be honest, it's not too much fun following racing via the web, or magazines. Not very exciting reading about a pass, or a late race mechanical failure to lose a race.

I travel quite a bit to Europe for business, and to be honest, I'm a bit jealous of their TV coverage of all sports! I wish we could get EuroSport, and some of the country specific channels.

Anyway, enjoy your races this year! I know I will as well!

American racing (Oval and Drag) are forms that more closely resemble the types of driving most Americans are Familiar with, and the types of cars most Americans drive: Super highways and stoplight-to-stoplight boulevards. Most U.S. cities are square grid layouts, and there are lots of wide-open roads.... ther earen't alot of windy roads, roundabouts and such that characterize Europe.

We've also traditionally driven big, powerful cars, not little exotic things. I grew up in Watkins Glen in the 70's, so F1 is racing to me, but a great many in the U.S. don't even know what "road racing" is. When I tell them I do track days in my sports car, they think i'm running around ovals. When I say "road racing" they thing "on the roads". The only question they ever ask is, "how fast to you get going?". That's just the sensiblity here.

To be honest, I think half the drivers themselves get bored and just stop racing, turning it into a possession around the track... you can see it in the way the handle the cars. I realise a lot of them might be 'nursing' it home, [or that's what they'll say afterwards] but most, I think, are just plain bored.

Another boring race today. The cars are technical marvels but the best car always wins baring mech failure. The drivers count for very little these days. Drivers of the 1940s & 1950s would find it so easy with the way the cars stick to the road.
Monaco is just a social event. The most excitement used to be when someone slid into the marina. Even the skilled pilots of MOTO GP would find passing difficult there.
I admire the technical wizardry but racing is non existent. Give me superbikes or MOTO GP any day for REAL racing.

chaps, go online and watch some old videos of duels between senna and prost, senna and mansell (esp monaco), and guess what shumi used to be there too (with Briatore with Benetton) along with legendary pilots, and he made his name in the middle of that...thats the old days when you had no traction control or anything...would love to see hamilton in the same race! Today noone compares with that class of drivers, and so before we call the lad a legend we could wait for him to win a few championships (not so hard these days)...i wish hamilton the best though, i just think we should just try to refrain from comparing him to world-class drivers from the days of old!

That is english sport for you they build them up and knock them down even quicker exactly the same in cricket, rugby and especialy football don't see it much in f1 apart from over rated jenson and yet how they treated mansell when he left in 92 and blamed him when they didn't know all the facts behing renault and prost ie-why should the 92 champion be a contracted #2 to prost and not given equal equipment as him from renault, but the press only show what they want to show to sell news papers(tabloids).
As for itv and james allan the over the top excitement when button won was as bad as his "GO,GO,GO" at the start...
HE IS NOT A MURRY WALKER and will never be good enough to replace him.
Hamilton's ability is there, but has only just started in f1,he has the potential to become great and many other drivers at the start are the same but it never happens -so we will have to just wait and see

Could not agree more with AmeliaRugby. Great driving and less talk is what counts. Hamilton may have a great car, and a team mate in Alonso who's now on the verge of crying and throwing away playtoys, but little did we all know that what may have contributed to this 'coming' of Hamilton is the 'departure' in the paddock of cutting-edge technology that went with V10 and V12 engines and the election of F1A to use underpowered units in a supposedly topmost body for motor racing. Hamilton raced and excelled in this category of economy racing already, did he not? So this is not new to him. Has he tried a V10 or V12 powered F1 car? Its a pity that in order to save money, we racing enthusiast are not getting the best from Formula 1.

I'm trying to work out how to say this subtley but i can't... Your an idiot. The lack of the extra 2 cylinders has made the F1 car alot easier to drive. They have less power by around 200BHP so coming out of a corner you can just plant the trottle and be done with it alot more so than with the V10. The reason the cars are faster is because they have are more aero efficient than the older cars. Christ almighty do you think that 18 years ago A rookie could have jumped in to a mp4/4 and gone the same speed as Ayrton Senna/Alain Prost. I think 1994/5 onward the cars have been getting easier and easier to drive. I don't think that Villenuve would have done as well in his rookie season if he had been around 2 years earlier.
Kubica another good example jumps in the car and stars performing its not because there incredible talants its because as a result of the FIA making F1 safer and Greener its turning it in to an more accecible sport to the rookie.
    In my opinon anyway.
