    A man is driving his car quite erratically, and the Police stop him. The

    Steve McClaren was caught speeding on his way to the Riverside Stadium today.
    "I'll do anything for 3 points", he said when questioned.

    Newcastle are about to play Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium and Alan Shearer tells the rest of the Newcastle team to take the afternoon off as he will take on the Smoggies on his own. The Mags thanked him and went down to the Strawberry for a couple of pints. They switched on Teletext to follow his progress. 26th minute 1-0 to Newcastle, scorer Shearer. Second half starts and in the 85th minute, 1-1 appears scorer Viduka. The game ended 1-1. When Shearer gets back to the pub the boys asked him how he could only manage a draw against the Smoggies and he replied. "Sorry lads I got sent off after half an hour."

    The Boro concentrated to much on the attacking side over the summer, consequently an aging or inexperianced defence is now suffering. Two days to go and we are looking at a depleted defence playing against Sunderland.
    I hope the Boro signs a couple of defenders in the next two days. The result against Sunderland might bring out a few instant decisions.

    I've got to agree with you but El TEl was always looking back with Rose tinted glasses and at 63 with a four year contract he'd be 67 and with his other commitments I don't think he was ever going to sign, esp when there is a glory position in the England set up available. He can go to England gee the team up (one of Stevie Mac's weaknesses?) and be covered in glory should they win or slip away with business interests needing attention if things go badly.

    The time wasted chasing El Tel seems, along with insisting that the backroom staff staying the same, may have cost us signing O'neil. Surely as the best manager not employed, the benefit of having him at the club out weighs the cost of changing two coaches purely down to loyalty? Loyalty is very important but do two jobs of guys that were installed under the previous coach outweigh getting O'neil? I don't think so - if that was the reason he didn't sign.

    Hopefully there is still a great coach who likes to play attacking football out there. Al Curbishly is just a very safe sideways selection. What great players have signed for him? Where as boro have signed loads from a weaker position in the league. Maybe I'm just #$%$ and we had a bigger budget to buy but he doesn't really inspire.

    From the final this year we, with the youngsters now a year older, have to push on in the league, improve our technique and distribution of the ball and player better football that lifts the crowd. We need a manager to deliver on this. With some rumours saying he'll promote internally from the club ie Gareth Southgate. As much as he needs to stay I think this would be a mistake. The last 13 years we've had debut managers. Time for experience for Boro. Lets get the full benefit of the money that's been spent previously and get an experienced hand running the club. Not my choice (that was O'neil) but lets see if the Tinkerman gets linked with the job now!

    I agree and disagree Mark, Yes we need a tighter defence that doesn’t leak as many goals, but we DO beat the likes of Chelsea, Man U and some of the other big teams...what we need to start doing is getting results against the lower teams that we should be beating week in week out, that is the problem... we lose to lower sides then when we expect to be stuffed by a higher placed team ...we win !!

    A good run in the cups is great too and I was so proud of our UEFA cup results...but if we narrow our vision to the cups we are going to get kicked up the arse in the premiership...SM had some good ideas but for a while last season things were looking grim in the league, I believe we can and SHOULD finish in the top 6 AND enjoy good cup runs...I mean how good would it be to have both options - qualification via league or cup...look at last season we were relying on winning the Uefa to get in Europe next season...and that didn’t happen.

    Pre season means absolutely nothing, its only there to get our guys fit. Im impressed with the signing of Arca, he was one of few shining lights for the mackems over the past couple of years and showed me everything i needed to know when he came up to the riverside last year!

    I think another centre back is needed, and possibly another striker. As much as i love massimo, and as much as i like malcolm, i dont think either will cut it, leaving us only the duke and yak up front. With dukes fitness over the past couple of seasons, im worried he wont play very often.

    I think a top half finish, and 1 good cup run this year!

    I'm a Boro fan domiciled in Mackem land and I've been telling them for 5 years that Arca is not half as good as they thought he was, and he's injury prone. Yeah, he looked good against US last year, but that's all.

    The defence we had the other night is abysmal... Schwarzer can't hold the ball and poops his pants when crosses come in, Pogatetz is plain awful and gives numerous free-kicks away, Riggott makes far too many mistakes and loses concentration and Parnaby? I wonder how he get's his place??!!?? I felt sorry for young Taylor. We can't defend set plays. And what does our manager intend replacing them with?? Two (admittedly good players) centre-halfs, both with knee-knack.

    Mendieta was finished before he came here and has played about 3 good games; Rochemback gives away far too many free kicks... if he's Brazilian I'm Brad Pitt. He's like a wall, it just hits him and bounces off... as someone said at work today "I can't kick a ball as far as he controls it!" His free-kicks are the stuff of legend, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. No the wonder no-body turns up for games, they might get a ball in the face off that clown.

    Viduka... well, apparently he may be off to Newcastle ~ an amazing player at times, some of the things he does make Henry look a carthorse, but he just doesn't look like he's trying 98% of the time.

    Apart from Downing, Boateng and Yakubu are any of them any good? We haven't got a team.

    The Chelsea result flattered us: to be fair they should have buried us well before the 80th minute and, I have to agree with Mourinho. He said we got lucky but we deserved the luck... I think he was being truthful.
