Hardly a game for the connoisseur (wadda ya mean spellcheck ? #$%$ ) was it Doug ?

And Stuart Downing signed a new contract because he loved the club ??????? .................. Yeah, yeah Doug, just as sure as I`m sat here riding this bike !!!!! Truth is Stuart Downing stayed because his and his agent`s attempts to get him a move to Spurs in the transfer window failed when Spurs belatedly realised what everyone else knew all along ............. He isn`t worth the money because he rarely goes past fullbacks on the outside. But don`t let the truth get in the way of a good story Doug,it wouldn`t be nearly as much fun.

you may have a point about that specific incident, but in general, there needs to be change, the other threads to this subject offer some other cases studies in question.

TV replays are just one tool that could be used to help clarify very contencious issues without extending the games durations too much I suspect.

All these clubs with "big investment" behind them are hundreds of Millions in debt.
When an investor buys a club he buys an asset, he then uses this asset as capital to obtain huge loans, rarely dipping into his own pocket to provide funds. Yes the end result is the same, a huge cash injection for the club, but this does not necessarily guarantee loyalty and commitment from your players. Credit to Steve Gibson for the way he runs the club, a true supporter and chairman. I hope we never get bought out by some fat #$%$ like Mike Ashley who ultimately couldn’t give a to$$ about the game, the club, the supporters and the community....look at the mess NUFC are in.

The question is more complicated than should Boro realise the £15m or so they have tied up in Downing. For a start is Tottenham a big club at which a young ambitious player could win honours? I think not, remember they sold Defoe, Keane and Berbatov and I don't think they will become a Champions League team in the foreseeable future. If Manchester Utd, Chelsea, or even Liverpool or Arsenal, Real Madrid et al were to make an offer then that would be different. Unless of course the ambitious player was just looking to boost his pay packet and not be looking for silverware.
From the club's point of view, it would send out the wrong signal to let Downing, Tuncay or Mido go, they are by and large crowd pleasers and who would or could be brought in to replace them. Besides isn't Southgate building a young team of the future?

A good assessment of the situation KH, I do believe that the majority of the supporters would rather we sell Downing and stick the "hungrier" Adam Johnson in his place. There will be few fans who would disagree with such a decision.
Yes, sell Mido & O Neal too and spend the dosh on a quality young midfielder, Fellaini would be ideal for the job, I was back home for the game on boxing day against Everton and I thought he was (forgive the pun) head & shoulders their best player, won everything in the middle of the park and used the ball well. This would give us some much needed strength where we desperately need it.

At this stage I doubt firing Southgate would make any difference, Mr Gibson has to appoint someone else in his place and I'm not sure anyone suitable is available. Last night the defence was sloppy, Huth was not on his game and he is crucial. It was the same team which beat Liverpool, so what went wrong? Certainly Spurs have more depth in their squad, but that is no excuse as Boro's main players were available. In another post I genuinely though a draw was on the cards with the possibility of a sneaky win. Guess thats why I am tapping away on my keyboard and not sitting in the sun enjoying my pools win.

I normally don't get involved in personal taunts at other teams and other supporters failures be they on the field of play or here on the message boards but on this occasion that little t**t fully deserves everything that every football fan on this site can throw at him.

He came on here derizing Boro's performances, laughing stupidly at comments made and comments he was making (always the sign of a delueded inbred) so f**k him and all the other Manure fans that showed little sympathy for Boro's plight. Manure got EXACTLY what they deserved from last nights game....a complete and total humiliation from a better organised, better structured, better skilled and better managed footballing team. Barca showed the way to play the game and Manure didn't know and were incapable of responding to this fact.

The old saying's are the best....people who live in greenhouses shouldn't throw stones or he who laughs last laughs loudest or what goes around comes around. My own personal favourite though is......F**k off you stupid little T**t and keep your childish, immature, worthless, pointless, pathetic comments to your own board, I'd love to see you stand in the middle of Middlesbrough town centre and make those statements you hide behind a computer screen and say...the cost of an Ambulance back to Manchester is bloody expensive...W****r!!!!!

For the sake of the supporters, the players, the manager, and the media, Steve Gibson needs to publically state unequivocably " We do not need to sell any players to finance any new players coming in in January. No players will leave Boro unless they are surplus to our requirements and our objective of securing promotion this season". We do not need clubs such as Wigan and Everton, to name but two, unsettling Adam Johnson and he in particular needs to be told, as was Downing, there is no possibility of you leaving until June at the earliest.
