Yes, that`s the usual press way. However, to omit the fact that the very reason McLaren were apologising was because they were admitting that the information went deeper into the organisation than they had thought is nothing short of intentionally misleading in order to cover ITV`s own backs. That is something which, I hope, most people would find unacceptable - particularly on the channel which purports to be responsible for the sport not only in this country but also abroad.
BBC Ceefax (for those that don`t have British TV, it`s the BBC equivalent service to teletext) gives less space but does tell the facts behind McLaren`s apology.
People have been saying we need to put all this behind us, make a fresh start etc. but, as I said, it isn`t going to happen while this sort of thing continues.
There are two sides to each story. Unfortunately, those that rely on ITV are practically guaranteed to only get one - & then, not necessarily, a completely true one.
The fact that so few people on here are appalled by it is a sad reflection of how successful ITV has already been in what could easily be called it`s own witchhunt against Ferrari & the FIA. -

Whether or not RD, knew about this is largely irrelevant. The integrity he has demonstrated throughout many years of working in F1 is now compromised.
Additionally, this clearly demonstrates that he has lost control of the team as a least worst case scenario - worst case being that he instigated and organised the whole thing including an attempt or two at coverup.
Given these twin thoughts and consideration, I think he has to resign from McLaren.
Does this mean that F1 will be clean in the future - get real, of course not. I doubt if it ever has been, and I know that 'cheating' in one form or anotehr will continue.
Does this mean that MM should continue in his position. Of course not. He still shouldn't convey any impression of bias either dealing with the politics or dealing with the racing. -

Typical Yank...........Mouth in gear before engaging BRAIN ! may I suggest you take the time to all the other threads regarding (in one way or another) the spygate affair ! that may prevent you from spouting your mouth in the first one you come across. If you want to see Mclaren punished next year as well by expulsion then your not in it for the racing, just for the outcome which would probably end in a predictable Ferrari whitewash. I for one go along with Brummie and say enough is enough. Look up and look forward.

I think I've narrowed the car down to the Matra Simca MS120C.
Would be great if you found anything but don't overworry. Believe me if you ever heard the engine note you would be breathless -

Yes. One of the staff at Ferrari rode his Ducati all the way there this year & hasn`t stopped extolling the virtues of the TT since. I think he`ll be there again next year.
I must admit my interest in motorbikes waned around the second time I came off which coincided with Barry Sheen retiring to Aussie, as I recall. -

Firstly, every recipient of Child benefits' details are lost "somewhere" on a couple of discs and then today, it emerges that every learner drivers details have been "misplaced" by a data security firm in Iowa-what the bloody hell is occuring people?????? -

If McLaren win then BMW & Williams would, presumably, appeal. Points = money. So, the thing just drags on.
Also if the BMW & Williams drivers were to have their points removed it would, indeed, be showing great inconsistency after the McLaren drivers were allowed to keep their points pst Spygate, wouldn`t it?
On a completely different tack, both Kimi & Felipe lost possible points through the email #$%$ up. Who do you appeal against when it`s the FIAs #$%$ up? No-one. So there are times when everyone has to be less than satisfied. We can all come up with ifs & buts.
If we call for consistency then we have to expect just that - not just consistency when it suits our particular preferences. -

Because, as far as I know, the email was held up on a server. Totally out of everyone`s hands. Just one of the problems with relying totally on computer technology.
No dark secrets. I would think we`ve probably all had the same happen to our own emails at some time.
Williams, yes, but BMW had a few good races last season & had already been mixing it at the front.
Mind you, it was a bit of a game of attrition at Brazil, too. e.g. If Webber, had still been in 3rd (? memory fade) then the points of the 2 teams questioned would not have made a difference to the championship even with an appeal. -

If flat-worlder offended you, Graham, I apologise. I did use a wink to show it was tongue in cheek, you know.
However, I stand by my right to say that most of what people say about Ferrari is not based on the full facts.
In the same way I think FA is getting a similar treatment (&, no doubt, likewise LH in the Spanish press).
It`s a case of 'if you only hear one side of the story for long enough then it`s very easy to think that`s the only side there is'.
If I was only interested in the red side I wouldn`t venture further than ferrariworld. I am interested as to why people have so many misconceptions & take them as gospel without looking deeper into what may be the real truth ....... hence flat-worlder - not a personal dig at you. -

I take your point, danimik, & agree that a lawyer would be ideal.
The problem as I see it is that, if it`s a lawyer without motorsport experience (particularly perhaps F1 experience) it`s rather like having a British Prime Minister who doesn`t speak English ;-)
The ICA are the lawyers - they deal purely with the law...... which is why appeals so often get stiffer punishments than their original hearing decisions (eg Not only the team but also the McLaren drivers may have been excluded if McLaren had appealed). -

Just as with JT, it would definitely be seen as Ferrari bias but that brings us back to square one.
People believe Max to be biased toward Ferrari. They forget the many times rules/decisions have gone against Ferrari. It`s selective memory.
It`s clear that the only way some people (not meaning you here, danimik) would be happy would be if EVERY decision went against Ferrari.
Truth is that, whoever was to succeed Max, the first time he made a judgement in Ferrari`s favour the old cries of "Bias" would start again.
I don`t see how we get round this whether they`re lawyers, ex-team members, rally drivers or whatever.
F1 has been turned into something tribal & there lies the biggest problem. -

Nobody ever wants to see a race cancelled but sometimes, for whatever the reason, it may have to happen.
Say there was monsoon rain, a major prang in the first few laps & the race was black flagged in the first 10 minutes. Would the fans be any happier that they`d have had their money`s worth?
The problem with the chicane suggestion was, I hear, the FIA rule which says it would have had to be sufficiently tested - by the time the chicane became an option there wasn`t the time, I gather.
The tyre change - well, I don`t think that would have been seen as any more of a proper race really. The Bridgestone runners wouldn`t have had the number of tyres available to do it & they would still have disappeared into the distance. Also some of the options would have penalised the Bridgestoners when, let`s be frank, they`d done absolutely nothing wrong.
As it`s against a driver`s nature to go slow that option wouldn`t really have worked either.
In all honesty I can`t see how there could truly have been anything remotely like a proper race whichever option they came up with.
I think it`s the old story of Bernie`s side conflicting with & influencing the FIA side. That may actually be what`s at the bottom of most of the problems.
Maybe we, the spectators, should actually decide if we want to watch a circus show (a la Bernie) or a sport. It`s pretty obvious the two can`t always work together. -
