    There's Rooney - the obvious #1.

There's Speedsters - Defoe, Agbonlahor, Bent, Walcott

Strong Forwards - Emile Heskey, Carlton Cole

And the Important Stork - Peter Crouch
(he can change a tight game with his lanky height)

Throw out any others that are possibilities and choose who you're taking to S.Africa

Guys like Gareth Bale and Leighton Baines are sensational, but are they the best Defenders at the position?

Jolien Lescott can't move like a left back. Mattie Taylor isn't a 'back anymore although I think he's as good a tackler as Baines and Bale.

Ashley Cole should be ready, thank God, but I think your other options should be Stephen Warnock and perhaps Paul Konchesky.

Going into the season, on paper, Chelsea had the most talent and the best chance.
I thought Man Utd would struggle much more than they have. I saw them 3rd at best. Liverpool was my choice for 2nd, and I figured Arsenal and United would wrestle for 3rd. I didn't see Tottenham being so prolific this yr, and I thought Man City would need a year to gel all the talent they've assembled.

    My biggest surprises:

    1. Liverpool's struggles

    2. Aston Villa's continued emergence despite the loss of their captain (Barry) and best defender (Laursen)

    3. United's pursuit of the title despite the turbulence all season along their backline, and their lack of creativity in midfield the first quarter of the season.

CHELSEA is still my favorite to win the league.

I will understand that Sir Alex brings more to managing a club than I thought possible if UNITED win the league.

He's certainly the right man for the job.
Villa fans should be very happy with this season, considering the loss of the wealth of contributions Martin Laursen and Gareth Barry brought to the table. To be without them both this season, I was assuming Villa would take a step back.

Wonderfully, MON knew who he needed to fill the void. James Milner, Richard Dunne, Stephen Warnock, James Collins, Emile Heskey, Fabian Delph, Carlos Cuellar, Curtis Davies, Stewart Downing... the man has brought nothing but Quality to Villa Park. Oh, and the best addition, Brad Friedel.

The way I see it, MON was unlucky to miss the Champion's League last season. Villa were looking good for Fouth Place before Martin Laursen went down. Then, it all fell apart.
Again this season, I think MON may be unlucky to miss the Champions League. This time due to the plaguing injuries to his most prolific striker, John Carew. No doubt Villa would be much closer to the 4th spot with a healthy John Carew.

The offense was outstanding during most of last season and the defense has been stellar this yr.
MON will put it together, but unfortunately the window for getting that fourth spot is closing going forward with Man City, Tottenham, and Liverpool building dynamos. The ever tough Everton will be back in form...
That makes eight very high quality BPL teams...

UEFA really needs to look at bringing more than 4 English teams to their Champion's League.

Seriously, shouldn't Carlton Cole be an easy pick?
Speed and Power, good finishing touch, Assists as well as any forward in BPL. God forbid something should happen to Rooney, but who better to fill his role?

Rooney, Defoe, CCole, Bent, and Crouch.

As far as styles, Defoe and Bent are speedsters and Rooney and Cole bring brute strength. Crouch brings something extra with his height and that could make all the difference in a tight game. I'd want to bring all five, but if I must sacrifice one it would be Bent or Crouch. Cole is essential protection for an injury/suspension to Rooney.

The best player to replace Rooney in case of injury or suspension is none other than Carlton Cole.

His style of play closest resembles that of Rooney among all the options. He brings power and a relentless will. He's a good finisher, has speed, and good assist #s for a striker.

I think Carlton Cole is a fine choice.

I'd bring Rooney, Defoe, Cole, and Crouch...

If a 5th striker is brought, I'd check Agbonlahor's form at right wing. If he's dangerous there, like he was several years ago coming up with Aston Villa, I'd like the versatility he provides.
But otherwise, Bent would be my 5th choice with the consistent form he's shown in the league this season.
