I think Ronaldo showed his true colours on Saturday. I can now see why he and Van Nistelrooy fell out at Man Utd, but ebcause he's a young lad he'll get away with whatever #$%$ he dishes out.
However, though it's nice to see some of the French fans condemning him for his actions, what about Mr Henry against Spain and his dying swan routine? Surely we can all do without that, too?
Still, France will beat Portugal - Zidane is showing the world he;s not finished yet and what a swansong it would be to lead hsi team out in the final. -

I'd say Ferdinand, he didn;t put a foot wrong. Whenw e needed him he was like a rock for all 4 games, when Terry was found wanting on a few occasions.
Hargreaves was outstanding in his defensive capacity on Saturday, but I think playing him limits our creativity from midfield, so I would play Carricka dn Gerrard. But, after his displays I wouldn't mind Hargreaves featuring during the qualifiers and I;ve been one of his biggest critics in recent times (apologies on my part to Mr Hargreaves) -

No they didn't, Thatcher left about a year before Mendes came to us (Spurs).
Mendes was a true gent whilst at spurs, not a savage-like wind-up merchant, or a diver, he just played his game with class. When he left us he left gracefully after sticking it out as long as he could before it became obvious he wouldn;t feature regularly (a shame, because i always liked him as a player0.
To see another ex-spur do that, for no apparent reason, upsets me. It was no accident - Thatcher's always been a thug back from when he was at Wibledon. After he made the "challenge" he walked away, didn;t go to see if Pedro was alright, but turned and looked down at him in disgust, ti would appear.
This was a blatant elbow to the face, running at full-pelt, which could have killed Mendes. For that, and for his previous record of being a despiacble thug, he should be banned for life and possibly jailed. Or beaten severely. You wouldn't miss him City fans, he's not a good player. -

Admittedly not. But I think the media like to get carried away with a story and out come all the possible punishments which never happen (like Arsenal getting kciked out of the CL). That's what I meant when i said sensationalism. Let's see what the FA decree, because make no mistake people, the BBC are not as impartial and integritous as everyone seemed to think tehyw ere (before all this).

But as i pointed out in an earlier reply, why bother going to all that trouble to appoint a captain who is racist and cover up all incidents involving him and racial abuse, when the could just as well as appointed Steven Gerrard who was up there with Terry as next in line?
If anyone from Chelsea were racist, my money would be on Fat Frank!! -

Apart from Lee replacing the injured Chimbonda, Jol fielded exactly the same starting 11 that beat Chelsea a week ago. Also, 9 of the 11 players played against Club Brugges the previous Thursday.
So, before you start accusing Jol of too much rotation I suggest you find some evidence in recent games which proves this. Bear in mind, also, that we are playing 3 games a week, so players need a rest - liek the Carling Cup game on Wednesday.
Also, not all Scousers are on Benitez' back, a lot of it is exaggerated by the press who, as usual, are trying to rock the boat. -

It's all very well you saying "have faith" and "look forward", but we all had high expectations this season after nearly qualifying for the Champions League and these expectations are not being met, due to poor performances away from home.
And to say "we lost to arsenal, so what" is exactly the attitude the players seemed to have on saturday - did they not realise the importance of this game? Not just our biggest derby, btu also a chacne to draw level with them and show we can mix it with the big boys.
How, then, can you say "have faith"? We support them week in week out, we wear the shirts, we hope for the right result - you think opposing fans aren't doing the same??
How we "look forward" to better times when we have gone backwards from last season? Especialy since player loyalty means nothing these days - you think players like Lennon will want to stay for a team who struggle to even get a UEFA Cup place? But if we lose our key players then we're back to square one again. -

Have we really improved from last season? Results would suggest otherwise. Last year we beat Newcastle at home, Pompey away, drew with Arse, beat Everton (typically, until this year) etc.
We have players till ajusting to the Premiership and too much dead wood in our team - neither Lee nor Assou-Ekotto I would ever consider to be world class, Davenport & Gardner simlpy not good enough, Ghaly IS awaste of space, Malbranque and Tainio are sqaud players, Murphy and Davids are finished.
Maybe Jol is to blame for some of this - why buy and injured Malbranque when we should have gone all out to sign a quality left-winger? Why, at the same time loan out an adequate right-winger in case Lennon got injured (which did)? Why continue to play the cautious tactics away from home when it clearly doesn't work and we end up playing mediocre football and invariably losing?
I thought we were getting it right with our decent run of form before the Christmas period (apart from the Arsenal game), but now it does seem like the same old tottenham - leaking goals and spurning chances. I hope I'm proven wrong, but we have a tough schedule ahead of us with all cup games to play, visits from Man Utd and Bolton and 2 potential banana skins away from home agianst Fulham and Sheffield Utd. We have to start improving or our entire season could be over by the end of February, -

You're right in that there is no one to take over so getting rid of Jol would be stupid at the moment, but there will come a time where he would have talen us as far he can - the fact that we're already starting to play the cautious, defensive game rather than being gung-ho, going in the for the kill shows a lack of progression at the club.
Lennon and Defoe are not 1 dimensional - Lennon can play on either wing, can cut inside and run through the middle, and has bagged a few goals for us. Defoe is a striker so plays like one, but he's had his fair share of assists too. How's this different from any other striker in the world?
