Absolutely wish the guy all the best. Model professional, great scorer. Would have been happy to have him at Arsenal.

BB, one thing I would say is do you really think that fans of 4 or 5 different clubs would be on a messageboard paying tribute to Ole if he'd moved to play at Boro/Newcastle or another mid-table outfit?

Despite being unlucky with injuries and coming from the bench much of the time, his contribution to Utd's success

Well said welsh... The whole incident reminds me of why I left England. Fergie did the right thing for someone in his position to avoid silly headlines and lawsuits etc which could affect his team.

The attacker probably calls himself a 'fan' of some opposing team or other but just sounds like a small-minded tw*t.

I've estimated Reyes cost at 15m as the likely final figure (initial outlay was 10.5m), so Wenger's average over 11 years is less than 4m/year.

Damien I wasn't advocating either type of takeover as something I want for Arsenal. I do believe that if we can maintain the current structure and strengthen enough to finish 3rd and win some silverware next season, then we'll benefit more from the increased revenue in 2008/9 than Manu or Liverpool.

Butch good to hear that an increase in size may be possible. I think it's necessary as Manu are really staying way ahead of everyone else in terms of gate receipts, although I think our corporate level may generate more than yours. I think It's Manu's globally strong brand and stadium size that will allow them to remain successful AND keep investors happy over the longer term. Very few clubs have that capacity for revenue so I can see a lot of other investors bailing out/selling up within a couple of years, and the clubs involved may well be weakened as a result.

No superbowls, NBA or world series, just a couple of Stanley cups for the hockey team and 2 "Rocky Mountain" cups for his Rapids footy team (does Rocky Mountain = Yank version of Mickey Mouse??)

There seems to be a lot of knee-jerking going on among fans. Hands up who thinks the board has actually done a bad job over the past 10 years? Anyone old enough to have been a fan since the 70's will know that things are a lot healthier than they seem.

OK, so DD leaving makes the board weaker, but I really don't think Arsene is trying to pressure the board or engineer DD's return. This is nothing but rumours & conjecture, as he's always relaxed about signing new contracts (Why wouldn't he be when he knows he has a job for life!!) None of this would even be talked about if we had finished a close 3rd last season, way ahead of Liverpool, and the only reason we didn't was our key injuries!

Even with Henry gone and our current squad, we can reasonably expect substantially more points next season. While I'm not totally against Kroenke taking over, I do think that another option would be to employ a director like him with strong sporting franchise biz knowledge. With the revenue next year from increased gates, TV and Highbury apartments, we probably won't need Kroenke's investment, we can use the additional funds to build the team and the global brand.

Swerve mate, it's never hopeless until the transfer window has closed and we have no manager, no Cesc or new players!!

Like you I'm not getting too carried away yet. My post was aimed at the fickle fans swinging from suicidal depression to over-the-top predictions of reversing a 20 point deficit in the space of one day...

But I'd disagree that this is the blackest summer in recent history, I felt less confident when we sold Vieira and didn't replace him. Most of the negative feelings are coming from paper talk this year, and we still have a month of pre-season for things to come together (or fall apart).

"things are never as bad as they seem"

Bit tired of the summer speculation merry-go-round. Who do you guys think was Arsenal's worst signing ever?

Few I can think of to start the list:
Diawara (strikingly similar to the beast, now I think about it!)
    Christopeher Wreh
    John Jensen
    Eddie McGoldrick

Hi Marintii, most certainly AW should be eating humble pie if we DON'T win anything in the next 2 years. I fully agree that 5 years is way too long to go without winning anything, and by that time I think we could agree Wenger was proved wrong. But don't you agree that if we do win CL or league, all the pundits and press will be hailing Wenger's youth policy as genius?

Swerve, I say 2 years rather than one because the team is still young, with some potentially important players like Denilson/Diaby still just 'coming through'. Add the loss of TH to that, and I think we may not realise our full potential this coming season, although I firmly believe we'll end up with more points, at least 3rd place and one cup.

Oops hubcaps, you forgot to hide the email address in your cesc profile. I guess you're not Rooonaldo after all, he would probably have been a bit more bright about pretending to be an Arsenal fan just to wind ppl up.

I think Wenger should be allowed this season and next to see if his vision is realised.

This does not need any further external investment.

Swerve do you really still think that "we are continuing to fall further behind due to lack of investment"?

It is still early in the season, but it's beginning to looks like we're capable of competing (IMO we maybe a bit light on central defensive cover for a full season).

If a takeover happens, I think pressure would be put on Wenger to spend on bigger name players and we may never get to see whether his plan would have succeeded. I for one am really enjoing what I'm seeing so far this season and am optimistic. Remember how everyone wrote off Manu before last season??
