I always thought the biggest mistakes Arsenal made were:

Francis Jeffers & Reyes.

Never lived up to their potential.

Arshavin was just like Berbatov. Great to begin with, but shoved into playing a role that just didn't suit him.

There's a bit of comparison that can be used as a guide, but unless there is a written rules book on how to value something, essentially a player or property is only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it.
