I met with a few guys from film partnership companies, and asked them if it was true that a lot of films are done backwards, and why.
His own words: "We film big budget films films backwards, as an insurance against a major support actor dying during filming. That way, we can re-work the beginning to bring them in later in the film sequence. If it is the star of the movie we have no choice other than to re-film entirely or cancel.
So, basically, it could work in the same way that 'The return of the Musketeers' was done. Roy Kinear (bless him) died during filming, so they re-worked it to keep the film going, and finish.
Apparently reports are that his role as the Joker in the new Batman was excellent. Lets hope the film lives up to the reputation and scores big at the box office. I'm guessing he was a nice bloke by all accounts, and it would be a shame if he left a legacy of a rotten tomato as his last film.
