Not sure after 10 games in the league you can say Adam is not Liverpool quality.....For me, he can only be judged on his contribution, and so far he's scored 3 goals and he's got 3 assists - these are all vital goals from midfield that we are lacking at the moment.....As for N'Zogbia - he'd fit in nicely on the left, either as left back or more attacking - which may free up Cole who has been out of sorts on the left.
I do agree that a centre midfielder isn't a position we should be looking to fill - I'd be more interested in us bringing in a striker to play up with Torres. I've always said that we need a player like Miroslav Klose who can score and be a physical presence up front - a superb foil for somebody like Torres. I'd actually settle for somebody like John Carew. Having mentioned Klose, it would be interesting to see what Podolski could bring to Liverpool - his goalscoring record isn't anything to write home about, but the crucial thing is that he brings other players into play.... -

Where has all this come from - have we been linked with him? -

I am not quite sure why Baz seems to have a problem with my post - if he was that bothered, then why not just ignore it and move on, or perhaps, write something constructive and thought provoking (which I guess would have been too difficult for him).
Anyway, i'm just disappointed that after the win vs chelsea, we haven't built on that and pushed on....i'm sure our more experienced players could be doing more - torres, kuyt, lucas, skrtel to name a few - and these players, together with joe cole will need to step up the game over the Christmas period whilst we are without Stevie and Carra.....recent results don't inspire me with much confidence, but i'd expect to get at least 4 points from the villa and newcastle games... -

Not sure if he scores enough goals, but at the right price, he'll be good cover for Nando... -

Given that both Carroll and Henderson could have been had one or two years ago for under £5m each speaks volumes. Why weren't these two players identified BEFORE they came onto the radar. Why are we paying, what is generally perceived to be silly money (Carroll was the 8th most expensive player EVER), for two players who hardly have any Premier League experience between them?
I think what I am trying to say is that yes, we need to sign these types of players, but the smart way forward is to get these players at the right time - i.e. before they explode onto the scene. Anyone can splash out £35m on Carroll and £20m on Henderson....it is signing of players like Bale (£7m), Ronaldo (£14m), Adebayor (£3m), and Kolo Toure (£150k) that you can look back on with hindsight and say that they were "good signings".
I thought the whole point of the new American owners was to inject a new philosophy into the way players were identified and then subsequently purchased. People are already talking about £8m - £10m for Connor Wickham and similar sorts of money for Alex Chamberlain, so if we are interested in these players, the time is NOW to buy them, not next year when their value could be two or three times more. Furthermore, I want to see a little more emphasis on building a team - therefore an emphasis on players that may not be spectacular or house-hold names, but can do a job and can do a job well. I know a little about Billy Beane and what he achieved with the Oakland A's (I'm not 100% convinced that you can apply the same thinking to football because the stats are not as easily recordable in football) but following that philosophy, we should not be paying that sort of money for Carroll or Henderson as it represents risky business.
That said, in five years time, if Henderson or Carroll turn out to be successful, then the opportunity is still their to make money from them as they will still only be in their mid-20s. I guess, if it is a risk that the owners are willing to take, then its up to them - its their money at the end of the day. -

the point of my post was to highlight two players that we are being linked to at the moment.....the point of the post wasn't to apportion blame on anyone - whether on Rafa, Roy or the previous owners....
we all know your thoughts on Rafa - how about your thoughts in relation to the position we are in now, and the players that we are being linked to today.....thank you! -

i do think that Adam is playing well at the moment, but whether he can push on and continue for the rest of the season - we shall see...but i do agree, there are other areas that we need to strengthen first - i'd like to see a striker brought in and perhaps some cover at right back and left back - carra shouldn't be playing out wide, although kygriakos has been our best player of late.....

I thought Capello didn't name his team until a few hours before the game. If that is the case, why has Capello come out and said that he will be starting with Upson tomorrow and why did he previously say that Barry would start the game against Algeria.....either he tells us the team or he doesn't. The lack of certainty is confusing for the players - why should Upson have the assurance that he is playing and nobody else? What about Joe Cole - will he be playing? What about Peter Crouch, will he be playing? Why are there different rules for Barry and Upson?

all i said was that he did what he had to do to secure the point - that doesn't mean i agree with it.
given your yahoo name, i assume that you are a Man Utd supporter. if anything, you should be looking at the conduct of your own team vs chelsea. for the last 20 mins, everytime a decision went against you, at least 3 or 4 players surrounded the ref, mouthing off....had your players spent more time playing the game, instead of complaining, perhaps you would have equalised....the conduct of the players was actually disgraceful - acting like a bunch of babies. not surprising when their manager does the same thing.... -

or not.
