Too right he did and Fergie angrily claiming a penalty shout at the other end is all the more amusing. The treble triumph claims we non MU fans have listened to all season is beginning to look increasingly unlikely! Pride invariably comes..............etc.

You are right, it´s not up to Stevie G alone to drag us out of the mire. However, he is captain and it worries me a little that his preferred method of leadership appears to be by " example" on the pitch. Though that is highly admirable in itself and enough when others are playing well, it might help gee along the rest of the underperformers around him if he threw his weight around a little more verbally when needed during the game..... a la John Terry, for example. When Stevie is on song, things usually click for us, but on an off day, the "do as I do, not as I say" leadership all but disappears and the whole team flounders. Don´t get me wrong, I´m talking about the role of captain here and not his ability as arguably the best midfield player in the league.
That said, we have the players, we just don´t have the team performance at the moment and that has to be down to the manager first and foremost to get the best out of the individuals. OK, we are top of the league but we should be way clear by now when you compare the talent we have available to teams with whom we have drawn. -

Yes, and there are two ways to have the highest building. Either build it, like LFC are doing, or resort to knocking all the others down, like so many Manc posters on this board are doing!!

Balanced view or all out for and against, there are some good posters on this board. Variety is, after all, the spice of life. The foregoing posts are typical examples of what I´m talking about. What cheeses me off, and you guys too probably, is the way in which many visitors and sadly some LFC contributors can turn any sensible post into an ignorant, foul mouthed, unintelligent and totally boring slanging match within minutes. Keep the good stuff coming guys! Finally, those LFC contributors who rush to rise to the provocative bait, do us a favour and don´t please!!

Minor infringements followed by dying swan dives are influencing the outcome of crucial games with free kicks awarded and resulting goals scored. Today´s example is Chelsea´s first against arsenal following a nothing touch on the edge of Droghba´s foot by Fabregas for which he received an unwarranted yellow card. As usual Droghba went over as if poleaxed. It was also an innocuous enough challenge on Berbatov with the defender getting at least half the ball, which led to yet another Ronaldo 35yard screamer and Man U´s first against a better (up to that point) Man City team. It´s high time refs had the advantage of instant video replay as the game becomes ever more competitive and lets stop these match changing events happening and, in many cases, ruining good games.Does anyone else feel the same?

Been reading the sunday press who agree with what we have posted here. We have one of the most consistent and potent strike forces in the league. We simply must sort out the defensive errors, however, if we are to have any hope of a title chase this season. Even Benitez is saying that "if we cant, then I will have to ask Torres to score more goals" apparently! Scarey to hear that if its true!

Good stuff guys but just wanted to add my twopence worth on Kyriagos´s performance last night. A tower of strength and, have you noticed, when he plays we look more comfortable at the back? Agger too was great I thought.

let´s be honest here, getting him at 25 million was a great buy and if he is really worth 75 million, can any genuine LFC supporter say that he should stay? If you were Torres, would you? Just about every top club in the world is interested and he is 25 not 18. If I were him, I´d be off first decent chance. That we had him for a couple of seasons was great but in the player´s interest, he should go. By the time LFC get sorted out, he´ll be over the hill! That´s not being disloyal to LFC by the way, just downright realistic!

What I wanted when I posted this topic was for some, less negative than me, to find the positives from our worst defeat since 1959 to a league club. (Not in terms of scoreline Dan)
It would seem from the responses that folks fall broadly into two camps; the "it doesn´t matter in the long term, it´s a meaningless cup and competition - let´s get things in perspective" and those, like me, who feel "it´s the pits and can´t get worse can it?"
For now, I´m going to hope that the first category are correct and that we shall see continual and fairly rapid improvement but, deep down, I find myself in sympathy with the guy who, on this or another thread, said "you are another Newcastle United in the making" I just hope he will be proved wrong starting Sunday.
My final take on the Northampton game is to ask how it is possible for a bunch of international players costing in excess of 30 million to make such a hash? Sad to say, they can´t all have had an off day simultaneously and the evidence therefore points pretty strongly towards the Manager as regards responsibility for the result imho. Please, please, let me be wrong!
