Dawson is a good player, but he can be frustrating at times. As was said, the partnership of him and King had him shining like brass buttons. The partnering of him and anyone else (who's this Woodcock fella someone named (wink wink)) hasn't had the same results...Kaboul, Rocha (absolute disaster those pairings, and the few times as was also mention with Gardner).
I think Dawson kind of drop his bottle after the stomach injury...not sure, but it was probably his first major injury as a pro, and that can have a profound effect on a young player. They lose that air of invincibility and start tip-toeing around and second-guessing themselves where before the injury they'd go flying in (not necessarily recklessly, but they'd be sure of what they were about to do...and do it!).
I think without the injury he was primed to be the main man, and he would've had any centre-back partner marching to his beat. At this point I'd say he's over the injury, but the thought of the bad games he's had leads to more bad games (kind of like Robbo...if that ball doesn't skip over his foot from the Neville back pass we'd still be singing England England's No.1 Eng-laaand's No.1!
Back to the topic...If Dawson deafeats his demons, he'd make a great vice-captain, but for right now, the jury's still out.
