Oh, forgot to say, I read quotes in the press today from AVB saying he is thinking about playing Ade with Defoe. Perhaps the booing worked!!

I'll keep this short and sweet.

You protesteth too much me thinks!!

That rant was not about trying to convince me - it was trying to convince yourself.

Thanks for the report Rambro. I suppose this is what happens when a new manager comes in - he gives everybody a fresh chance to stake a place. Unfortunately, given how short time is before the 18th, that means we are keeping our fingers crossed that somebody who has been on the sidelines for good reason (Bentley, Jenas etc) suddenly becomes a better player OR that one of the youngsters steps up to the plate. Personally I don't see either of those happening.

Meanwhile, we sell another player, Piennar, still know that Modric will go at some point, have one recognised striker at the club (shorthouse Defoe) and what else!!!!!! Oh yeah......BAE asking for more money because he is so worth it!!!!

I REALLY don't like the way this is going. I could be wrong of course (unlike some I am happy to admit that I am) but I have this sense of dread about the start of next season. It looks very much like we will go into it with a smaller and weaker squad than we had at the end of last season. I would have thought that AVB would have insisted on some money to spend and that he would have brought somebody (another striker preferably) in well before now.

If AVB or Levy honestly think that Bentley or Jenas or Kane or Carroll or Townsend, or whoever else is on the fringes, is the answer, well I for one am very worried indeed.

Not sure I would agree that Ar$e are stronger now Fab but its too early to say really. RVP will be a BIG miss for your lot and I can't see anyone in the squad scoring anywhere near as freely as he did. Given you won a lot of games 1 -0 or 2 - 1 last year that translates as draws and those 2 points make a lot of difference at the end of the season.

Re AVB - REALLY not sure about him. Ok Gallas does a slightly different CB role than Dawson but the fans would take Daws over Gallas every day of the week so AVB made a PR issue with the fans there.

I have two issues with AVB so far. One is tactics in terms of the teams he is putting out with only one striker and the other is with moral/confidence. We don't look comfortable and the free flowing attacking football we had last year has disappeared.

Wanna bet that Ar$e dont make top 4 this year?

Even the thickest idiots on here know that this board does not like swear words and therefore the use of numbers, or any other replacement symbo,l is necessary otherwise the word concerned is replaced by Yahoo completely. I wil give you an example John.

You are a f%&ing, arogant, self absorbed, very boring tw4t(t).

So, at last, RVP reveals what we all knew. He is going and Ar$e do not have the plan in place to become winners which is why he is leaving.

The question is, do Giroud and Poldolski make up for losing RVP? My guess is no. It took RVP years to get to the goal level he did at Ar$e and it is very unusual for anyone to arrive in the PL and hit the ground running.

If RVP had scored an average number of goals for a PL striker Ar$e would have finished mid table and hopefully that is what will happen next season.

Sorry Fab et al, but next season is looking bleak for your lot. Whinger has the deepest pockets and shortest arms in PL history so signing an adequate replacement for RVP is not going to happen.

Meanwhile, there are all sorts of stories coming out about who AVB wants to bring in and I cannot believe he would have taken the job without a significant warchest being made available. I know its early days but if an independent supporter was asked the question "which team (out of Ar$e and Spurs) do you think has the best chance of success next year" IMO the majority would say.....................

    COYS!!!!

    No John I don't think I am.

I am trying to stop you posting long, tedious posts on just about every thread because it is stopping people coming on here. I am not the one telling everybody on here to rethink whatever they have said because I have been bothered to look up some stat somewhere which might or might not prove them wrong!

I don't think that everybody should be very careful about what they say on here for fear of being contradicted by some pompous idiot who thinks he knows better than anyone else.

I gather from your latest post I have hit a nerve - well I bl00dy well hope so. What was it - the bit about the lack of party invites or the realisation of how condescending your comment was?

"Surely your wit will attract people in their droves won't it? Start a thread headed 'Sfer's witty banter corner'"

Was that your idea of funny John? Did you think to yourself as you were writing that that others would split their sides laughing? If so, your problem is worse than I thought. Poor chap.

Don't you find it odd that you are the only one on here that comes in for this kind of stick? I might be the only one who is voicing it but I have a very short fuse when it comes to putting up with over opinionated, boring fools. If people want to say Defoe is the best or AVB is the worst then I think they should be allowed to without receiving a condescending tomb from people like you. In fact, I would welcome a few more posts where people are free to say whatever they want. That is what used to happen and they provoked some very interesting responses - now they just get you.

Asking the question where would we be without Bale is a valid one in my book. Yes I appreciate we do have him but the emphasis is on relying on one player is dangerous and needs to be addressed otherwise, if we lose him through injury of him being tempted away, where are we then? Mid table as I pointed out and as was expressed in the press only today.

I asked the question, which other PL team relies so heavily on just one player and no one replied. You have pointed out that Arsenal did with RVP and that is probably the closet comparison BUT looked what happened when he was tempted away. They have struggled to replace him or score goals and to play to the sdame standrad. If anything you pointing out the RVP situation only goes to prove my point.

The difference between us and WHU was Bale. Other than that they did as well as us. Take Bale off and that would have been a VERY ordinary mid table clash.

So AVB takes playeys off because they are getting a "real kicking"? Are you serious? So, apart from th efcat that that happens in every PL game and the fact that the Ref would surely have done something igf th etreatment of Holtby was THAT bad, the signal to teams we play is "if you kick us we will take our best players off" is that it?

Carroll is more attack minded that Dembele!! Exactly how many goals has attack minded Carroll scored in the PL?Oh no, hold on, NONE. How many assists? no that is not a statistic that shouts out from anywhere. How many shots? Nope, not there either.

You don't win games because your goallie or center back plays well - you draw them at best. Carroll and Livemore have done nothing so far IMO to say that they are anything better than average PL players. Lennon was completely ineffectual until the last 20 mins and even then he managed just two half decent crosses. Adebyor did nothing at all apart from a header which some would say he should have do ne better with. He missed a sitter that Arry's missus could have scored.

And the table doesn't lie? Oh come on. Stat wise it doesn't but we all know that some teams deserve better that then get and others get too much.

At the end of the day we want the same things. The only thing that differs is how we see success being achieved. I don't think AVB is the man to do it and I don't think the squad is strong enough to do it. As always, we shall see!

I said on here several years ago that I did not rate Hudd and mostly I got criticised for it. I agree totally with your assessment of him. On Sunday it paid off but most of the time it doesn't. I just hope that this cameo performance persuades some other foolish club (Fulham are you listening?) to come in and buy him in the summer.

Yes Defoe also made a big difference. Unlike Adebyor, he makes intelligent runs which players like Hudd can use. Adebyor, by contrast, sits in front of the defenders and wants balls to feet. The problem is he is not that good at controlling a ball PLUS we don't have the players (when Parker and Dembele are playing) who have the ability to pass it to his feet when he is being marked. Can you imagine in your wildest dreams Adebyor scoring a goal like Defoe's? I can't.

I think they were hoping Holtby would fill the Modric hole and I am still hopeful that he will. he is taking some time to settle in but he works hard, has a great left foot and is always looking to attack so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

What we do obviously need is another striker to replace Adebyor. Defoe, as good as he is, can't lead the line and Adebyor is not good enough and is too slow and lazy. And, as you point out, its a choice of Parker or Sandro with another central midfielder who can pick out those forward passes and that I am afraid to say, is not Dembele even though I like him.
