Glad to see some of you about. Not going to lie and say I'm unhappy with the blows you've taken lately, but its good to see the real Chelsea fans are back.

You maybe a real outside chance at challenging for the prem now, especially after loosing Terry to injury and Drogba out for 3 games, but you've still got a quality squad I'd not count out, so long as either Grant, or a new Manager can work out how to create a team again.

As a Liverpool fan can't really complain much about your analysis, but of course think the reds will still beat Arsenal to the finish line. However, I'd not count Chelsea out. Its looking more and more unlikely they will be a serious challenger this year, and with Terry injured and Drogba out for the next 3 games things are dire. But, they still have a quality squad, and just need someone to put it together. I doubt its Grant, but with a new manager, or maybe if Grant can get the players playing as a team, you never know. It will be intersting how Grant leads them in the CL, as that might be the bigger priority for them right now.

Would Mancini really be the wise choice? Think he was pushed out at Inter because he could only deliver domestically, but not in Europe. So since Chelsea have the same craving as Inter (CL) why would you go for him?

Also, do you think anyone could wrestle full control. If a person with the force of nature personality of Jose M, could not achieve this, doubt many could.

Your last point is very valid. I do think Barry does have enough to be a regular at Anfield, but he won't be in the same role he is at Villa. The rotation theory is really over played, and if you look at the statistics instead of the press headlines, you'll see Rafa rotates or rests no more often than any other manager in the top 4, or with similar size squad. And the core of the squad was rarely rotated, other than injury in league matches.

But, would Barry be part of that Core. I'm not sure. In midfield, Gerrard is, and Masch is. So if its a 4-4-2 he's out, but if its a 4-2-3-1, then there is an opening, but I don't think its guaranteed for Barry, as he'll have to compete with Lucas, and anyone else who maybe coming in. Therefore to get more regular games, he's going to have to be flexible, and play also cover at LB, and maybe LW.

But, to be fair that is true if he went to any of the top 4 clubs, at least until he establishes himself. So the choice comes down to get CL football next season (and most likely for many seasons to come) but accept his role maybe limited, or remain at a club that plays him anytime he's fit, and hope Villa, can beat off Everton, Spurs, Blackburn, Pompy, Man C, and maybe others (Newcastle etc) in knocking off at least one of the current top 4. Tough choice, but its the players choice to make.

its all opinion on here, and we obviously have a difference of opinion. I mean no offense in stating mine, so I'm sorry if you are offended, but that is not my intent, and not my problem.

I do think (IMO) that Gerrard and Masch are better players than Barry. If you think otherwise, then that is your opinion, and it maybe shared by other Villa fans, but I don't think by many others outside the Midlands. To say that I do not think is patronising.

IMO I don't think we need him, but do think he could be a valuable addition, especially as he links up very well with Gerrard. But if it does not work out I think we are fine without him, either by keeping Alonso, or going for someone else. To be honest if we have 20 Million to spend I'd rather wingers or full backs, not another central midfielder, but I'm just a Liverpool supporter, they do follow my recomendations that often.

As for sending a message "Don't mess with the big boys..." I think your having a laugh. I never said anything about Villa being a feeder club, or a small club, but if you feel sensitive on the subject, also not my problem. But for some reason you think Rafa has no right to make an offer on one of your players? How do you think the transfer market works?

Yes Villa have every right to turn down any and all offers coming in, no matter how much. But no right in stopping the offers being tendered. Villa are of course in the driving seat as you hold his contract, but with the player going public on wanting the move, how hard do you want to push this. Those are decisions for MON, so don't blame me, Rafa, or LFC for that.

Barney, you might be right this maybe the end of it, but to be honest, unitl Barry comes out and says he wants to stay for another year, not sure what MON says holds much water. Unless of course he wants to play the role that Fergie is with Ronaldo right now.

God knows if you can believe the press, but one article I read was that Liverpool missed the 5pm deadline by 15 minutes, and had cash in hand along with Finnan as a makeweight. Seems like the deadline might have been a bit harsh considering Liverpool were in Spain at the time. Also, the same report stated that Barry and his agent are planning a meeting with MON and Lerner this week, and he's considering putting in a transfer request. He'd not done so before as he'd hoped the club woudl work with him, and he'd not negate his loyalty bonus.

I don't know if this thing is over or not, and at this point not sure if Barry is worth all the fuss, but do think its more likely Barry writes the last chapter, not MON.

Some know I don't come here to wind you up, so start off with congrats, you look to have gotton one over on Rafa. Not sure if we actually need 6.8 million worth of cover at left back, but wondering what's next for United. Who's your back up for Evra now? Do you need to dip into the transfer market one more time (or more if you still need a striker)?

Point being you made fun of other teams for not delivering an entertaining performance, and only going for a result. But now your not capable of a entertaining, its only about the result. Can't have it both ways.

I'd agree with you, and don't think you'll find many Liverpool fans who don't think Rooney is a rare talent (can't speak for the Arsenal fans). Not sure I'd class him as world class yet, as he's not really had the opportunity to shine on a world stage, either international compititions, or CL, and after the Russian game, looks like he'll have to wait until 2010 to see if he can do it on a really large stage.

But he's only 21, so plenty of time to see if he can really reach that world class status. No argument he's got the potential, but time will tell. Temprament is a factor, but age may bring maturity. Injury maybe another concern. No reason he could not have a long productive career and achieve great things, but with the problems he's had, got to worry about not just being injury prone, but also can his body sustain over the long haul. Just look at Owen, no doubt another rare talent, but think what he could have been if he'd not had the run of injuries he's had. He's still not old, but maybe already entering the twilight of his career.
