Andy I did not think you were being sarcastic. I took it as a compliment to Kimi. He is as you say a straightforward sort of guy and I can see how what he said would amuse.

I say Kimi you say Hamilton. May the best man win !! :-))

Well if you'd paid a bit more attention in history you'd understand what that event in WW2 had to do with Italian attitudes contextually. The Italian fighters in that action had a stalling speed that was faster then the Gloster Gladiators top speed. Ergo they were unable to engage the RAF planes without falling into the sea.

So what did the Italians do? Did they detune their engines and mess with the weight distribution of their fighters to allow them to fly slowly enough?. No - they started complaining that the RAF were using "illegal" aircraft (aka helicopters). Like I said - poor losers.

If Max Mosley and the FIA had been around they'd no doubt have banned the RAF from fighting in the next two World Wars, and deducted all their kills.

If you've been watching F1 as long as you claim then you'll remember that the last time a Brit in a McLaren was turning the Scudari over was when dear old James Hunt was dicing with Lauda. I can remember the Ferrari whining and whinging even if you can't.

F1 is fun to watch (and for the record I'm more likely to be cheering for the guys at the back than those at the front - so I don't have an axe to grind either way here), but its a grubby money grabbing sport in reality. Its also mysongistic, and racist, and full of duplicity and dishonesty.

    But it's fun to watch

I see no harm in being proud of your country, or the people that represent you. Its only sport after all.

The Finns get just as patriotic when they play the Russians at ice hockey as England when they play Germany at football. We want to win oh so badly. We try to be generous when we lose though (which is nearly always).

Yes many people misunderstand the Finnish way.

Say what needs to be said - say it honestly - and then be quiet. Kimi does have this down to an artform, he's very reserved even by our standards.

Living in Europe I've had to learn smalltalk. We don't do that.

I meant to say how much I admire Massa as well. A fine driver and a little unfortunate this year.

I would like to see Kimi win too.

This is not, you understand, because I like Ferrari, or hate MCLaren, or have any lack of respect for Hamilton or Alonso.

Its just that Kimi is a Finn as am I, and naturally the Finns like to support their own. Finland is only a small country (in terms of population), and we only have a few sporting heroes. We accept them as they are with all their faults.

So with due respect to all the others GO KIMI !!

Thats a little bit harsh. Different nationalities have different characteristics. As I said above - its our nature to be reserved. Kimi is as highly thought of in Finland as Hamilton is in the UK, there is no need for him to "present" himself, at least to his countrymen, in any other way.

As to who is the better driver - well I expect we will find out quite soon. I have no problem if Hamilton turns out to be better. However I hope you'll forgive my hoping that, this time, Kimi manages to win.

It should be remembered that Jackie Stewart is dyslexic. If Mr Mosely was making reference to this then it was a very cruel thing to say.

I dont know whether this was the case, or if Mosely was simply being rude. Either way it was not necessary in my opinion.

Well speaking as a Finn by birth (although I now live in Switzerland) I can assure you I'm neither blonde (no hair now - but brown when I had some), suave (rather plump these days) or cool (well perhaps as much as the next 50 yo man). My wife is blonde and cool - but also British :-))

Scandanavian roads are really much better than you'd think - although our approach to winter driving is rather unique. We dont tend to treat our roads, rather we clear the soft snow off and drive on the packed down stuff underneath. We also ensure that our cars are properly equipped with snow chains and all weather tyres. In Finland you face a considerable fine for not having these in winter, and could go to prison if you caused an accident in a non winterised car. Also there are mandatory winter driving training sessions for novice drivers.

The secret, if there is one, is that as a race we are very analytical, and very calm. We tend to work very hard to be the best we possibly can be at something. We make sure we have the right equipment to do the job well. If things go wrong we do not panic or get angry - we try to find out why and how we can do it better next time.

Also we do not waste time on chit chat (is this the corrcet term without being rude?). We say what needs to be said and stop talking.

In Finland we do not have many sporting heroes - so we are very proud of Kimi and Heiki.

Oh yes and we only drink Vodka - which we steal from the Russians !!
