Some well made points there Doug! We must stop conceding goals and accrue many more clean sheets so a solid well drilled and disciplined back four is essential. Southgate was clearly lacking pace towards the end of last season and a good young replacement to play alongside Riggott is needed. Boateng does a great job in midfield, but I'm not sure that Mendieta has a full season in him and so another creative midfielder for Cattermole to learn from is also necessary. This in my humble opinion is the basis for an improved team next season. Then if we keep Viduka and Hasselbaink to play alongside Yakubu fed by Downing and Morrison (I'm not still convinced about Maccarone despite his European feats)we have plenty of goals in the team. Add to this the young guns awaiting their chances, top six should be possible.

What was embarrassing was the Boro 'supporters' booing their own team off at half time, and the mass exodus about 25 minutes from the final whistle. No team outside the top four could have lived with Chelsea yesterday they were class. But what you do is applaud a better team not boo your own! There are big holes in the Boro set up and we are most certainly missing Tuncay. I, and the season ticket holders around me, questioned Southgate's line up and dropping Alves. Why play two right wingers? Why change nothing at half time? Why not throw in Emnes and Digard? Errors yes but, in my opinion losing at home to West Brom was far worse than losing to Chelsea. I feel for Gibson he must have felt doubly sick yesterday, firstly for the drubbing, he is a Boro fan, but more sickened by the crowd reaction.

All Boro seem to be trying to do is swap Mido for anyone, Marlon King being the latest after Villa declined a similar swap for Harewood. Recent interviews with GS show him to be a bit of a 'rabbit in the headlights' and you have to feel a bit sorry for the guy, but thats what he gets paid for. Spurs seem determined to buy themselves out of trouble and so I have to say I think Downing should be on his way for £15m. At least we'd have some cash to buy a goal-scorer but who??? King and Harewood are surely not the answer?

I think the man has the business accumen of a market trader, he admitted not to have carried out due diligence, something his solicitors and accountants should have warned him against. What I am saying is once he paid out money to Shepherd the club was his, regretably to do what he wanted. He seems to have made his money by exploiting others but many have done that, I feel exploited everytime I fill my car up with petrol but I can't blame the Emeratis for using my money along the money of millions of others to buy Manchester City or Abramovic for doing likewise in buying Chelsea. I hope you get what you want and he sells quickly, but don't start screaming again if the new owner/s bring in a manager you don't like or a regime which is not as you would wish. If I was the new owner, however, I would not hire KK, his record of walking out would scare me to bits.

Lets hope so! Last night was a gruesome spectacle in terms of football but Boro are through to the next round and it is all good experience. Bolton will certainly be envious. Jimmy FH was fantastic ploughing a lone furrow, Quedrue in particular with the rest of the defence were brilliant if at times a little lucky.
Now it's on to Rome who even without Totti will prove a stern test, but I think Boro can sneak a result as they seem to rise to the occasion and play fantastically against the supposedly superior bigger teams.
