Tara Rafa, we'll miss you. People may argue that you didn't fit in our team, but undeniably a good player who put your heart into it.
All the best mate. -

I'm overwhelmed, with this deadline day being so bleedin crazy and the paralympics & all I can't cope!
Can someone summarise for me? Interesting stories for other teams too if you like; the definites, the probables, and the gawd only knows? Ah go on, you know you love to!
& SB & John, for the sake of both your sanities, I suggest the "silently agree to disagree" approach, I reckon it's a pretty safe assumption that what one of you says they other will debate! Not trying to interfere, just be constructive. -

Villas-Boas also admitted Michael Dawson, who has been in talks with QPR, would have limited first-team chances if he remained at Tottenham.
"If you end up with five central defenders then it's more competition and there will be less opportunities, that's why we allowed him to speak to QPR," added Villas-Boas.
"With Adebayor, Defoe and Kane coming through I have enough options, but in football you just never know," said Villas-Boas.
"I want to build a team that has one striker up front in my ideal system."
Seems odd to give Defoe a new 3 year contract if you're looking to play one up front; it also seems odd to come in with a firm idea of a formation rather than looking at what you've got and making the best out of them - not very adaptable.
It also implies that VdV's definitely on his way, or is being dropped into MF (which seems unlikely given Dembele signing).
BUT the media says a lot, and reads a lot into a few words here & there, so they don't really tell us a lot. -

Aye, I'm braced for that, I just hoped he'd have a bit more common sense than to change it to 'his' style in one go like that, surely there are more successful ways (in points terms and also in ingratiation terms with both fans and players) to ease it in, having the confidence of the players makes a huge difference to their performance.
But you're right Al, quite likely time to have strong constitutions and hope we get through the season more than anything. And I'll cheer that bad boy on! -

'Arry used to get the flack for this, but Spurs (with Levy at the helm) have always been a good one for having any ridiculous rumours seem believable!
Squeakybum day tomorrow, that's for sure, I kind of want the inevitable last minute Dawson deal to have the paperwork rejected as submitted after the deadline.
I reckon we'll have another 1 player in and 3 out by the end of tomorrow. Any advances on that? -

But there are too many rumours at present for me to take them in.
I wouldn't be all that surprised to see at least 3 of Daws, Hudd, Defoe, Lennon & JJ/Bents off before the window closes, which may well leave us short of actual players (as opposed to squad numbers)... oooh, it'll be fun times! -

Def agree it's too early to be calling for anyone's head, but def also agree that it's about the squad impact and the timing's the key. I'd see the next couple of months being Daws, Kaboul and Verty as the top 3 CBs with Gallas being phased out & Caulker in - come Jan we'd be in a better position to know whether we can sell one of them off. It would also be better for the team psychology I would have thought.
I've also been discussing the homegrown rule recently; is it English players/teams or all in GB/UK? E.g. if Bale hadn't had his years with us & S'ton would he count as homegrown? We must be getting low... -

Dawson's released a statement!
"I'd like to thank Mark Hughes and QPR for their interest, and Mr's Villas-Boas and Levy for allowing me the opportunity to speak with them. It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell them all to go **** themselves, as I'm staying at Spurs and fighting for the role that's rightfully mine. In your face doubters!"
... ... this statement may not actually be from the office of Michael Dawson. -

And according to AVB last week:
"Villas-Boas said that he would not announce his captain until his transfer business was closer to being concluded.
"On that one, we are deciding towards the end of the transfer market," he said. "We have our reference this year which is Michael Dawson and we hope to keep it that way but towards the end of the window we will have a better idea of the players that stay with us and come in. Dawson will start the season as captain".
AND
"There are changes which have to be done but I won't promote that change as aggressively as I did at Chelsea."
Eurgh.

Me too :'(
To quote a stranger off Twitter (I'm not even on Twitter, I just follow it religiously at times like this):
Remember that game where Dawson gave up and looked like he couldn't be arsed? No, me either.
