Seems odd to give Defoe a new 3 year contract if you're looking to play one up front; it also seems odd to come in with a firm idea of a formation rather than looking at what you've got and making the best out of them - not very adaptable.

Aye, I'm braced for that, I just hoped he'd have a bit more common sense than to change it to 'his' style in one go like that, surely there are more successful ways (in points terms and also in ingratiation terms with both fans and players) to ease it in, having the confidence of the players makes a huge difference to their performance.

I'd see the next couple of months being Daws, Kaboul and Verty as the top 3 CBs with Gallas being phased out & Caulker in - come Jan we'd be in a better position to know whether we can sell one of them off. It would also be better for the team psychology I would have thought.
I've also been discussing the homegrown rule recently; is it English players/teams or all in GB/UK? E.g. if Bale hadn't had his years with us & S'ton would he count as homegrown? We must be getting low...
