Yep, he was fantastic yesterday. I've got to admit I've not really been impressed by him recently, but yesterday he was man of the match for me. What I enjoyed more than anything was every time the camera closed in on his face, it was either deep concentration or a massive grin: he was loving every minute, even when he was on the floor after the clash of heads with Drogba & Robbo. That's what our boys are about!

I just don't see him going. Carrick was different, he's grown up in England & so will have different goals, but Berbatov knew what he was coming to when he joined us, & he seems to be enjoying being the hero for now. Maybe if he feels like he's not achieving enough this time next year he'd go, but he seems content for now.
As for Barton, if anyone can tame him it's Big Mart, I'm just not sure whether he'd want to... -

Oh yeah, no disrespect intended towards Andy C, it's just that I've got on my high horse about it many times before so thought I needed a disclaimer before joining in!

I think Taraabt to West Brom could be inspired - it's only a loan move, and he needs games to improve. Let's be honest, we're not intending to be competing with West Brom this season, so it's not bad for us in that respect, and getting him some first team action (he won't get more than a couple of subs for us) will help him develop.
Give him to them half a season, with a view to extending to a full one, and we've got a trained player returning to us. Win-win. -

They'd been quite blase about it I thought, I was under the impression he'd be back in a week or two, tops 6. Two managers gone, injury's making an impact - now the season's really started!

By the same note, is it acceptable for sportsmen and women to take drugs as long as they don't get caught? After all, we've all seen it happening for years, it's not nice but it's part of the genre?
Just because it happens doesn't mean you should wish someone well for doing it, and my point is that there are players (for example, like Berbatov and Defoe) who I think have given their all for the club but known it's not for them for whatever reason. We've all known it and so can wish them well for their service and all the best in the future. If - IF - Keane decides he wants to go this summer it seems to be done in a really underhanded way, that's what I'm not happy about. -

Berbs was the epitome of gentlemanly when he scored against Leverkusen for us, he's a good boy like that.
Just to throw some more newspaper rumours into the mix... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/07/14/ufnbentley214.xml
Although it was published today, it's got some pretty old news in it (e.g. Eto), so I wouldn't pay too much attention to it as yet. -

I'm with the guy who wrote the article - I don't think Woodgate'll get it, regardless of what the fans think. I think he'll be playing more regularly than JJ, but when JJ is playing he'll be more likely to captain (if Ledders isn't).
Personally I think it's a non-starter to give the captain's armband to someone who's only been there 8 months too, but it's looking like most of our starting XI will be have been bought in the last 8 months, so that's no great surprise. I also prefer to have a captain a bit further forward (e.g. holding midfielder), where their positioning has more affect on the rest of the team - i.e. if they're getting forward the rest of the team can see this and follow the push, and vice versa - but that's just a personal preference, not a deciding factor.
