A car is only illegal when it breaks the rules at the time it races. The Ferrari passed all the current FIA tests at the time of the Australian GP.
The fact that the tests/regs were subsequently tightened does not mean the Ferrari was illegal at the time of the Australian GP.
F1 is all about loopholes. McLaren have also been "victims" of similar scenarios as have, probably, all the teams.
The age for cigarette sales was recently reduced. Someone who could buy cigarettes legally one day found that the next day he would be breaking the rules. Doesn`t make him a criminal until he buys a packet under the new laws. -

I remember when he became Michael Schumacher`s team mate. He said that he was going to take the opportunity to learn everything he could. I was impressed. Yes, he is a great team player & well liked in Maranello & by many of the other drivers, I hear.

It`s the street racing part of the night race that I think is the biggest problem.
Street furniture, manhole covers etc. Just getting a sufficient level of light to see a lump when you`re going at F1 speeds has to be a worry I would have thought? -

They`re extremely fit. They wouldn`t last long if they weren`t.
The G-force on body & neck, often high temperatures/humidity, Nomex + suit, the sheer pressure required to brake, plus the general discomfort of bouncing along a road at enormous speed with practically nothing between the tarmac & your backside are things which many armchair critics don`t take into account.
The in-car drinks systems now help to maintain fluid levels which were often to blame for drivers all but collapsing after races. -

If we need to explain it to you, you haven`t been following what has been said. We aren`t talking size of material, we`ve been talking amount of overall information involved & it being a completely different scenario to Spygate. That doesn`t mean that any of us are saying that McLaren doesn`t have the right to report Renault or, if guilty, for them to be punished.

Yes, the Toyota thing went to court.
That IS the difference. It was pursued as a criminal case. As such it wouldn`t be Ferrari who took the perpertrators to court it was law.
Here it would be The Crown v. ????
I imagine that the NS issue in Italy will be much the same.
The FIA rules on sporting issues - not the laws of the land. That`s why I said that McLaren must have some reason for thinking that Renault used the info to gain sporting advantage & the FIA must feel there is a case to answer. We only have rumours to go on &, until the hearing transcripts are available, will probably not know the actual details.
I am in no way having a go at McLaren! I`m just trying to clarify the differences & saying we have to wait to find out the details before making judgements. -
Yep, it`s all about where the line is drawn.
