I WON A BET!!!!
Paddock - I knew you'd want little Napoleon and didn't mention him on purpose LOL
Don't forget that Lauda was both a Ferrari AND a McLaren driver. That's why I put him first :-) -

mangstadt - I've just looked at a couple of places and it says it is not open to the public, as you say.
I suggest you hang around the team hotels and beg for a job as a potwasher :-)
Then again, I'm sure if you ring you will find someone who speaks English! -

Drivers don't need to go near the simulators that do the real simulation work.
They can now run a full size car in a wind tunnel - I believe one team (I think it's BMW but I'm not sure) can actually run two full size cars in parallel.
Telemetry data which has been picked up from a track in the past is "simply" fed in and they can then "drive" the car remotely and see how it reacts to changes.
As to what they do with new tracks and revamped tracks - I assume they're in the dark until the data has been picked up and sent to the factory on the Friday.
I'm saying this without knowing most of the details but I know that's how it's done. I assume they can even "drive" according to the drivers too, if one of the drivers is a late braker etc.
I'm sure the teams could run a race without a driver without too many problems. Would be a bit cheaper than paying for drivers like Al Honso anyway :-) -

Just thought I'd butt in here even though TWO handbags hitting me at the same time is quite painful.
Let's forget the semantics of the thing - as paddock has said I don't actually remember an official statement from the FIA talking about "spying", but then that's the problem - I hardly remember any official statement from the FIA which actually tried to diffuse the situation for fans and the media.
Of course there are official documents and minutes of meetings and things (which paddock keeps under her bed LOL) but if the FIA wasn't so damned arrogant about the way they handled (and are still handling) things I don't think we'd all be sitting here discussing what constitutes spying, stealing, being in possession of etc.
Maybe it's about time the FIA released an official statement on the whole affair - including an exact description of the differences between the McLaren and Renault judgements - for dummies like me.
I know paddock will argue that the information has been published but I think it is the job of the FIA to calm things down by doing it in a carefully worded once off press release. By not doing so they are being 1) arrogant, and 2) unfair to the people who pay their wages, i.e. us fans!!!!! -

I saw that but don't believe that F1 as it stands will last 5 years let alone 10, so any long time planning has to be at least a bit doubtful.
Was just wondering about the new "green" engine formula planned to start after 5 years though - can just see McLaren and Ferrari scouring the countryside for the best cow dung to power their newly developed organic V2 engines.....Then again, if they insist on the drivers starting wet (and night) races with a dry setup then I think all they'll have to do is wring out the overalls :-) Sorry about that - especially if you're having your tea LOL -

Was probably me talking about the press that got that misunderstanding going. Sorry to all.
But as I said - the press have always been and will always be that way but it's the fans who go along with the trash that annoy me. -

J M I couldn't agree more but you try telling Bernie that. He's never been interested in real motorsport fans because that's not where he gets the money from.
