Part of being a modern F1 driver is that you are greatly responsible for the performance of the car. This is something that Nigel Mansell was great at. If the car isn't fast enough, you don't bitch, moan and complain (see Villeneuve, J.), you test, you develop, you get in the faces of your tyre/engine/fuel/whatever supplier and demand/manage them to improvements. JV just seems to want to sit his fanny in a race car and not work. BAR was an exceptional opportunity. Big budget, team built around #1 driver (sound like Ferrari?). Difference is, Schumacher WORKS. JV, no.
Jacques should be happy in NASTYCAR, if that's where he ends up. Everyone has the same low tech boring equipment, the "racing" is pretty choreographed, and anytime anybody works for an advantage, it gets taken away. It's a show, much like professional wrestling. Montoya should do well too...he can crash a bunch of cars - none of the incidents will be his fault.
JV was never a match for MS. -

You might want to look in to the facts your own self...
FACT - Six cars started the race, not three.
FACT - The tire failures occured in the speedway section of the course. This area is the basically the same configuration that it has been since the track was built in 1909 - the course was repaved is all, and that was common knowledge.
FACT - Tire companies bring multiple types of tires to each race. If they can't get it right, don't look for sympathy
Thank God there is still a racing series that doesn't contrive competition. -

I wonder how long it will be before the powers that be stop relying on flag waving humans and electronically signal the driver inside the car of track status. I know from having been on track that you're often so intent on the matters at hand that it's easy to miss a flag. An electronic signal of some form would remove all doubt and shouldn't be hard to do.

Frank Williams of the Williams F1 team put it best. When asked about Jeff Gordon, Williams replied, "I don't know if he could be a racer. He's busy being a NASCAR entertainer."
NASCAR is as contrived as pro wrestling. The competitiveness that stock car fans rave about is legislated. It's a show, pure and simple.
Thank God there is still one series like F1 that defines competitiveness as get better every race or flounder. -

Marshalbob141 wrote "NASCAR is not a low tech form of motorsport nor is it choreogra(p)hed in any way." I would consider carburettors, five lug wheels, sheet metal bodies, etc., VERY low tech. And at least two thirds of the races each year have a caution in the last twenty laps - seems choreographed...all about the show.
If they were serious about it being "for safety reasons", why have races go into extra laps? Why not have pace lights where you would be required to maintain your distance from the lead instead of allowing the field to bunch up?
You cannot fix the outcome of a race? I don't suppose it would be too hard, especially in the restrictor plate (NOW THAT'S HIGH TECH!!!!!) to give someone a plate with a tiny bigger opening. Or look at Earnhardt Junior at Daytona 2001. Dad killed on the previous race at the track, restrictor plate race, Junior somehow manages to pass a bunch of guys, normally aggressive drivers acquiesced.
There are major accidents because that's entertaining...
NASTYCAR may have more attendance, but the television viewership is dwarfed by that of F1.
And no wreck has ever been Montoya's fault... -

Second the nomination of Gilles. He had the most talent of anyone and the biggest heart. Once in the rain at Watkins Glen he was eleven seconds quicker than anyone else.
And I'm sure he would be crushed by what a turd his son is. -

Carburettors may be old hat but they still are used. Many race cars have more than one lug nut on each wheel including Touring Cars. Those sheet metal bodies are hand made using the latest methods to male sure they are perfect. It is easier to repair sheet metal than fibreglass during a race
YES, BUT THEY ARE ALL LOW-TECH. Whatever happened to the "racing improves the breed" reason for having racing in the first place.
F1 uses full course cautions as well and allows the field to bunch up. I don't see you moaning about that.
When was the last time you saw a full course caution near the end of an F1 race? NASTYCAR does it two thirds of the time. That's the choreographing I'm talking about.
The reason that NASCAR use the Green White Checkered system if the race completes its schedualed distance under yellow is to try and give the fans a green flag finish.
Right, it's all about the show. Just like professional wrestling.
DEI in the early pasrt of this decade were acknowkeged to have the best Plate programme. In case you you forgot, it was a DEI car driven by Micheal Waltrip that won that fatal Daytona 500 in 2001.
Yes but you had multiple drivers casting aspersions on the legitimacy of the win - talking about how you cannot pass on the outside in restrictor plate racing by ones self, in dirty air. Such a thing hasn't happened before or since. -

Sorry to hear about your family problems. Just because we disagree about the merits of stock cars versus F1 doesn't mean I haven't got empathy for a man that is unable to enjoy what he loves doing through no fault of his own.
I hope you can get back to officiating very soon. -
