I don't think Mercedes will be anywhere near next year. There's no real changes between this years regs and next years so any development of the 2012 cars will be thrown onto the 2013 cars.
The best chance Merc have is when the engine regs change in 2014, but could they really do what they did in 2009 with the double diffuser?
I'm not so sure.
I have made a bold prediction though on another forum.
Perez will win the WDC with McLaren before Hamilton wins it with Merc.
On Hamilton though, he's obviously gone for the money and nothing else. Why else go to a team that is consistently a second off McLaren with 1 win to it's name since Turkey in 2009.
He's always said his only motivation is to win. This move shows that really isn't the case.

Another idiot taken in by the GOAL DIFFERENCE line.
We didn't lose the title because we didn't score enough goals, we scored plenty.
We lost the league because of 2 facts. 1- the squad, especially the midfield is garbage. We need, and have done for a long time, a box to box midfielder capable of winning the ball, protecting the back 4 and driving forwards.
2- Fergusons tactical ineptness. Such fantastic tactical decisions as - Going to City and leaving out our best player (Valencia), Leaving Rooney out for the home game against Blackburn. Constantly switching keepers.
We were 8 points clear with 6 games to play. For 2 years now we've allowed teams to walk through our midfield. We've been crying out for a midfielder for 7 years since Keane left.
There's only 1 man responsible for tactics, transfers, feuds with players, and thats Ferguson.
His time has been and gone, and it's time a new man took over.

He's an old man with old ideas.
We need a young man, with fresh new ideas, a fresh outlook on how to play the game, a fresh outlook on the quality, or lack of, in the squad.
With any luck Gill will have been in contact with Guardiola and Ferguson will be gone come this time next year.
Fergusons stubbornness and sheer refusal to bring in a Holding/defensive/box to box midfielder has gone on for far too long.
It's years since Keano left, and with the exception of 2008 and Hargreaves, we have never replaced him.
Not one of the midfielders we have now can tackle. Not one of them can hold the ball.
We won't be winning anything this year again due to the tactical ineptness of Ferguson and Phelan.
He may have won many trophies in the past, but you're only ever as good as your last games, and against both Everton and Fulham (and in the majority of games last season) we were destroyed in midfield.
No manager should ever be unsackable. Clough proved that at Forest. As great a man as he was, he went on too long and took Forest down.
Ferguson is in danger of dragging this club down and has to be stopped.
With talk of Barcelona and Valencia considering their futures in the sport, and with Malaysia and China repeatedly looking at decreasing crowds and increased costs, If these circuits were to end their association with F1, which tracks would you like to see replace them.
For me I'd like to see somewhere like Magnycours return, or even Kyalami, and a return of the European GP being a race that is held on a different track each year.
I wonder if McLaren are looking at a possible link up with Kimi some time in the future.
Reports out there in F1 land are that Whitmarsh has urged Williams to sign him.
With Lewis looking mighty uncomfortable in the McLaren team at the minute, could McLaren be looking at Williams as a sort of 'feeder' team for Kimi. Give him 12/24 months back in F1 then bring him back to team with Jenson? maybe allow him 3 years at Williams and bring him to team with Lewis should he stay at Mclearen?

Such a talent, and from the devestation etched across the other drivers faces, you could tell he was one of those who was respected throughout the field.
Not exactly F1, but sorry to say Dan Wheldon has died following a 15 car crash at the Vegas Indy 300 on lap 12.
The race has been stopped and the drivers are doing a 5 lap parade lap in honour of Dan Wheldon.
Just looked on the FIA website and was suprised to see that Webber has been punished for speeding in the pitlane during Quali in Korea.
The penalty he has been given is a fine of $1400.
If he was to do this in the race it would result in a drive through penalty, why then is it only a fine when done in Quali, why not a grid drop, or, time added to the fastest lap time?
Not looking for Webber to be penalised, just curious as to why there seems to be double standards (not in terms of which driver it is) when it comes to penalties
At the time the incident happened I didn't think anything about it, and both Brundle and Coulthard brushed it off more bothered about the set of tyres he wrecked than anything else. But when you think about it I suppose it makes sense to investigate it. Would he have had time to get back to the pits and get out again if he had taken the corners as normal?
IMO, at worst he will get a slap on the wrists and sent on his way.

There has been talk that when it comes to developing the car, Lewis is much like Kimi, i.e he has very little input at all.
It is believed that this is one of the main reasons why they (And Williams back in 2004) wanted Jenson so badly as he does work extensively with the engineers to develop the car. Something Mclaren hadn't enjoyed since the days of Mika Hakkinen (Or in Williams case since the days of Mansell).
I do agree with the comment re his management team and the fact his career seems to have nosedived since he 'fired' his Dad.
I just think that whilst his Dad is no longer his manager, and the fact that Mclaren run everything straight down the middle and maybe don't offer that outlet he had when Ron Denis was more easily available, he's going to find it harder and harder to get back on track.
His Dad was pretty annoying when interviewed on the TV, but he seemed to take all the hits for Lewis, you never see anyone from Lewis's current management team out there trying to help him.
Yes I know many other drivers don't have that either, but maybe that is something Lewis needs.
I do see the same cracks in the relationship between team and driver that we saw in 1993 with, ironically, Mclaren and Senna.
.....for Lewis to begin engineering a move, or think about leaving McLaren.
2007 and 2008 he was brilliant. The breath of fresh air F1 had been waiting for. Kimi hadn't delivered on the promise he had shown at Sauber and McLaren, Schumi had just retired, there was no fight in F1.
2009 he wasn't given the car to fight for the title at all, and it wasn't until the final few races of the year that he was able to challenge at the top.
Since Jenson has come to McLaren Lewis has lost his head. Why I do not know. I don't see that Jenson personally has anything to do with the situation, but it seems to have hit Hamilton hard that he's no longer the 'STAR' of the team.
I also think the loss of Ron Denis from the pit wall has affected Lewis in a negative way.
As much as people don't like Ron Denis I believe he was always there to help Lewis, probably the one person within the team he had the most respect for, and the one he could go to. It seems he doesn't have the same relationship with Whitmarsh.
So, is it time to end a connection with McLaren that has so far lasted 13 years? Should he be looking to re-start his career elsewhere, maybe Mercedes under the tutelage of the great Ross Brawn. Maybe looking to hook up with F1's greatest ever designer at Red Bull, aggressive design for an aggressive driver (much like the formula for the cars he designed for Mansell and Prost at Williams)?
Does he stay at McLaren and hope he can come out of this rut?
So the title is all but sewn up. But we still have one exciting aspect to come between now and November, the rumours and comment on the Driver Merry-go-round for the 2012 season.
It seems Button still hasn't got a confirmed drive. Senna could be out of Renault depending on Kubica's recovery.
Plenty of rumours about Sutil.
Then there's Kimi.
What do we think? What have we heard?
Also, what do we expect come 2013 when drivers such as Massa are out of contract? Could Button be the first Brit since Mansel to drive for Ferarri?
Having looked at the replays again and again, it does look as though Lewis actually makes the first move, a little nudge towards Maldonado at the top of the hill.
But what Maldonado then does is completely out of order.
Personally I'd like to see him DQ'd from the race. Not only were his actions petulant, but on a wet/damp/drying track they were dangerous.
It's a similar incident to the Schumi/Barrichello incident last year, only at least that was in a race situation with positions at stake. (still doen't make it right)

The shirt tug itself, whether the player goes down or not as a resultof thet tug, is a foul, therefore the correct decision in this case was to give United a penalty. The ref got it completely wrong by NOT awarding the penalty.

I agree with what you say, but does it not make Schumacher look more invincible, and increase his ego, when the rules that everyone else has to abide by seem to never apply to him.
In the past we have seen various drivers handed grid penalties for blocking during qualifying, including one for Alonso for blocking massa in 2007, despite both drivers being on hot laps.
So why has Schumacher only been given a reprimand. Do the rules not apply to everyone?

It's a little hard to pay the money needed to buy Villa/Benzema when the club have nothing.
Don't forget without selling Ronaldo last season United would have made a £35M loss.
This year we have no Ronaldo to sell (Unless they sell Rooney of course) and have gone out of the CL at the QF stages which when compared to last season in terms of prize money is approx £90M, so assuming Rooney is not sold, we are probably looking at a LOSS of approx £125MILLION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
