What to make of that then eh?
Personally, I thought going for the away goal was the right thing, but I was a bit surprised to see that AVB had gone for both Daffy/Ade up front.
I missed the first half, but thought a few looked under par in the second.
I'm still not convinced by the new signings and although I thought that Holtby looked class in a few of the touches he had when he first joined, he looked out of it to me (lacking match fitness?) last night.
But again, we get a result that maybe went against the run of play and we're through to the next round. -

Very frustrating coping with Yahoo anyway, my e-mail has been compromised, now can't access my account ( security question they keep asking was supposed to have been changed as it was also compromised), can't check my broadband usage when I want, extra £5 on my bill last last month (without priar knowledge) for excess usage, etc.
Wish I could find somebody better, without having the hassle of changing my e-mail address etc. -

I think as we dont need to win this tie as it stands, I would go with the following line up
Friedel
Naughton Dawson Vertongen Caulker BAE
Walker Dembele Parker Siggy
Defoe
That would make us tight at the back and allow Vert to move into MF when we go forward and Walker to provide the pace on the right.

Well done SB, sadly you were much closer than the rest of us with you last prediction.
I suspect this second leg will be a much tougher challenge for us, not least because Bale and Lennon are both out. Is Ade currently injured? I think he had a knee injury. I believe Dempsey is also unfit for this game, leaving our midfield/attacking options limited at best.
I'd go with:
Lloris
Walker Caulker Vertonghen Naughton
Livermore Parker
Gylfie Dembele Holty
Defoe
Gylfie, Dembele and Holtby would be fluid behind Defoe. Although I'm not convinced by Livermore yet, in the first leg they couldn't cope with Dembele or Parker in midfield, so Livermores physicality should/could be useful.
I suspect AVB will go with Friedel and BAE not Naughton and Lloris

We need to bounce back from the Liverpoo game, the San Siro is not the easiest of places to go and get a result, despite Inter's relatively poor form we will need to be on our game to get a win.

Some really interesting points made here,
I agree with JL, I think we handed them the game, Walker and Defoe made mistakes which ultimiately cost us the game. Sadly its not the first time this season Walker has been questionable, it opens up a debate on the England righback because IMO Walker and Johnson were both poor.... Jenkinson?
I agree with Rem, re Livermore and Carroll, neither is currently of the calibre needed to face the likes of Gerrard, who IMO was lucky to be on the pitch to take the Pen. The challenge he made on Bale(may have been Gylfi) as we broke from a Liverpool corner was calculated and tactical, I have seen many of those get yellow cards, the second was the elbow on Bale, no attempt for the ball at all. BAE's challenge on Suarez was a pen, although he made the most of it!
I also thought Suarez was very lucky to finish the game, he's guilty of multiple fouls throughout the game and despite is ability, he's a nasty piece of work!
I am concerned at how we will react to this defeat, this could be a warning, which everyone will learn alot form, however it could be the turning point, which see's our form and results plummet. We will now see what the players are made of and what AVB can do to keep focus!
Who is the best CB in the league right now? IMO Vertonghen must be right up there!

I didn't think we did too bad at all. We were at Anfield and up against Suarez - and I know this is going to sound stupid - but what did Pool do apart from score 3 goals?
I thought we handled Suarez well (apart from the 1st) - we had more possession (up against Gerrard in midfield), more shots, more corners.
In the player ratings, the Pool squad seemed to score higher than ours, but that I think is only the effect of them winning. Had they lost, and still played the same, they would have been slammed. But they only won because we gave them two goals.
I didn't see tiredness - or should I say I hope I didn't - as if we're serious about 4th again, there's lots of games to go and given our exits from the Cups, we haven't been overly stretched with games.
I think that's the first time this season that, to me, the result was the wrong way round. Before, on multiple occasions, I thought we hadn't played so well, but got the result. On Sunday, I thought we honestly deserved the win. -

Evening fellow Yids.
Wouidn't exactly say we were walking it John and it was allways going to be a tough one at anfield.
Thought we done well to get back in it after going 1-0 down althoughit was agaist the run of play.
However at 2-1 i thought we looked better than expected and could actually see us getting a third and putting the game to bed.
Midway through the second half,i thought that some looked alittle bit leggy and this for me hilighted the fact that our bench looked a tad weak.
Holtby for Gylfie was fine and although Livermore wasn't having a great game,i felt that Carroll seemed a little frail on the physical side in the middle
Not that you need brute strength in that possition as players like Modric etc have proved, but sadly Carroll is not in his class and this is where it is nice to have a slighly better indepeth squad, which i'm sure we will be able to put together if we get CL next season.
As you said though John 3 mistakes was our undoing and pobably the POOL couldn't believe thier luck and would of been more than happy with a point at 2-1 down.
Still,we must pick ourselves up and concentrate on our game with Inter,as without Bale and Lennon(who we definately missed yesterday)things will be a lot tougher and the midfield will have a tough battle on thier hands.
This is when we need to dig deep and keep the faith for that 3/4th spot.

We were walking it and then three stupid mistakes and we turn a win into a loss.
Dembele covered the park. Daws and Vertigo looked pretty solid and Walker, looked ok until he made the rick.
Oh well...end of the run. Shame there's not enough games left to create a new record... -

hate to say i told u so joe. we looked tired physically &mentally towards the end & let in 2 late goals. so i think i was right about the inter game being the difference. 2days rest is nothing. also the inter game cost us lennon too. so we had to play jake who was poor. both walker & defoes pass bks were bad. & ekotto didnt need to bundle over suarez. defoe & walker wil be hurting but ekotto dont care at all. squads lookin weak with livermore having to start & carroll having to come on. sort of game we could have done with sandro instead of jake. not too dissapointed cause i thought inter on thursday would mean we end up losing to pool. at least maybe people wil realise we need to focus on 4th & stop saying we can get 2nd. thats when u slip up & forget 4th isnt certain yet,let alone 2nd! id take 4th now

Doom and gloom ey SB?! wow!
We have had a good record at Anfield for at least the last 3 seasons and speak to any Liverpool fan, we have become something of a bogey team for the pool.
The european game could go against us, but for players like Bale the more games the better, in this type of form, he'll want to play every day. Bale and Suarez are both of exceptional quality, after those two, we have better players more likely to producing something special or am I just biased? H and Fab (as nuterals) you may be able to answer that better.
An injustice? ha ha ha, you are quiet hilarious SB, this is supposed to be fun....a laugh! Rem and I have even missed the odd week, maintained a more positive (unrealistic IYO), jovial approach to this yet, we are separated by 2 points! Chill SB, its not like we've put anything on it! Just enjoy it for what it is......a bit of fun.

Hang on, where's my deep insightful(!) reply to this gone?! I posted about the record at Anfield (last 2 games draws, once before that we won, one before that's the last time Liverpool have beaten us I think in all competitions), the team match ups, the ref, and even got distracted by the Everton-Wigan match and commented on that! I feel cheated.
Anyway, I reckon it'll be fairly high scoring (3-5 goals), we should edge it, and there'll be at least 1 controversial moment which the ref may or may not deal with well. I think Skrtel could get sent off, it'll be high tempo, and generally a good game. -

I think it would be a 50/50 call but because of our inter game just 2days earlier, we will be too tired & lack that energy and spark. I think our Europa match will be the difference in the end.
Liverpool are bang in form. I cant remember when we last won there?!
yes its very close between us 3. I was miles ahead early on. then joe was miles behind us & remmah. it will be a injustice if I don't finish 1st, because iv been top for probably 99% of the season! -

If we keep Suarez quiet they will have little else, dependinmg on which Coutinho turns up, he looks a quality little player BTW.
