Bale playing the roaming role just seems to congest the centre. BAE was given a bit of space on the left but barely put a ball into the box. Lemmon hardly got on the ball.
Dembele seemed completely out of it, until he scored and Holtby started brightly, but died off in the second half. So the creative midfield wasn't firing on all cylinders.

Having said all that, maybe simply because of how Lyon played, I thought we were the best team on the night and deserved the win.

I think as a whole we were poor gave the ball away far to much and looked like we had no idea how to break them down Parker Dembele,Gallas,Lenon,Adebayor were never in the game and when Parker and Dembele did get the ball they gave it away we are really missing Defoe.
Overall i think we are paying the price of not buying in January.

In fairness, he looked after the ball very well last season, his passing being mainly safe rather than incisive. Sandro has his own fair share of misplaced passes, but they are both good at breaking up play, something we have been thankful for on lots of occasions. Prefer Sandro though as he is younger and stronger. Both are better than Livermore, who suits the bench more than the pitch.

Agree on Bale he seems to congest the middle of the park around their penalty area. Made it difficult to get through them, lack of width from the team me thinks. Lennon wasn't attacking the fullback on his side much either, everything seemed to be trying to get through the middle of their defence which was very efficient.
3 belting strikes though for the goals. I don't think UMTITI will hit a sweeter ball than his goal and Bale has obviously been working hard on his free kick method. Can't say I've seen another player strike the ball and cause the movement that he gets from this new approach. It seems to dip as well as swerve!!
