Spot on Sfer, although I'd cut Lennon a little slack. I commented on Ade a couple of days ago...has he paid for the private jet yet?
I'm glad we are scraping results, but we definately need to up the strike rate to get 4th spot.
Like you, don't really rate AVB, perhaps it's the raincoat. Someone tell him to throw it away....who would buy it? -

Im with you Joe i think AVB is a good coach doing a very good job, would i swop him for Harry? not on your nelly.
I see our main stumbling block being Levy not willing or able to push on to the next level he is trying to play with the big boys on a shoestring. If we had got a class striker in Jan as AVB wanted i think top four would have been a cert now im very uneasy.
I was excited by AVB's appointment now let's hope that isnt dashed by Spurs not doing the blindingly obvious as usual. COYS -

OK lets give it a go....
When Ade first came to us I thought he was really up for it and he was running around like a kid, chasing back and scoring goals. Since then, and he has form for this, he has slowly melted back to what he was elsewhere. He doesn't look he cares too much.
Defoe is too small to lead the line on his own but at least he is a natural goal scorer and will get his fair share. So, if Daffy is out then we really have no choice as I don't see Dempsey as a Striker - not the way Daffy and Ade are anyway.
Did you notice how Dempsey was shooting from anywhere and whenever he got the chance? Desperate.
Holtby looks good and hopefully he will settle in and find his scoring boots.
Bale? Does anybody really care where he plays when he is playing like this and scoring like he is? Its Lennon that is worrying me. He started the season really well but has gone off the boil. No real output and certainly no goals lately.
Bottom line is, and we all said it, we desperately needed to get at least one more striker in when we had the chance. All this is only IMHO of course, but I think our position in the PL flatters us a little. We haven't steamrollered anybody like most of the teams around us. We have won games by the odd goal or drawn to get a point when others around us have slipped up.If we didn't have Bale we would not be where we are but we can't rely on him all the time.
One last thing, AVB. I don't like him. Sorry, but thats the way it is. -

If this is in anyway directed at me due to a recent response to one of your posts LTS can I please just state this for the record?
I am 100% behind AVB and the team. I think he is obviously is great coach given what he has achieved for Porto and he is still learning. What I am skeptical about is Levy and the board - I know that there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes which we do not know about, but I often find that there's a reluctance to strengthen our squad when we need to for short term gains such as securing a champions league spot at the end of the season, which can surely only help our long term strategy (which you alluded to in that post?)
You yourself mentioned Harry failed to get us in the champions league 2 years in a row, and maybe that's because he lacks the top level management experience (balancing CL with PL) or maybe it's because Levy didn't invest enough over those two seasons in the areas we needed? Most likely a combination of the two.
I'm not whingeing, I've been supporting Spurs long enough to know we don't have it too bad at the moment, but that doesn't mean we (as fans) shouldn't be expecting us to aim higher, win trophies, get established etc. - and not have to wait another 5-10 years for it. Our time is now, with the players we've had, but we risk losing our best players if we fail to get CL football and then we're having to rebuild again. -

I'm not sure If Holtby is cup-tied for tonight, so I guess we'll start with Ade up front and Dempsy in behind. I would start with Bale on the left for the first half and see how we're doing, then if needed, move him more inside, and put Siggy or Dempsey on left. Lyon are a very good side, so could be hard to get through the tie, but I still hope we give it a good go, and field as strong a side as possible.

I'm totally with you Remmah, we're 1 point of 3rd and only 5 points of 2nd.
I just can't believe the diatribe he gets from so many soo called Spurs fans, from the press yes but not our own supporters. Stop whingeing all the time and get behind the club, that means all the players, staff, management and the board. Tottenham Hotspur haven't been in such a solid position since the 1980's and even then we had money problems.
Yes he has made mistakes but he appears to be learning all the time.
Yes HR had us playing great football but he never won anything and lost us 2 years of CL.

Like you Joe, I've said he should be given a fair chance, and I think he's doing a good job considering the new player's and injuries he's had to manage. I'm amazed some people think we're a shoe in for a top 4 place when you look at the quality we lost and bedding in the new boy's, having key player's missing for large part's of the season. AVB made mistake's early on as he got to know the player's, but some judged him without any thought HE was new as well. I look at the team against Newcastle and think he would of got slaughtered had we not won, seeing Naughton start over BAE and Caulker over Vertongen, but he obviously thought the extra pace they offered was benificial for that game, and thats what a manager has to do, pick a team HE thinks can do the job. I think he could become a top manager once he gains enough experience but maybe not with us, because as soon as we go through a lean spell, he will be hounded out by media and fans alike. I judge him on what he doe's over a couple of seasons, and not on media biase as some do.

Even though Holtby has only played a couple of games, I would play Ade upfront, Holtby behind and Bale left (as he comes inside anyway). Hopefully get some balls into the box from both sides - and let Holtby do the VdV bit around the edge of the box.

The man who devided opinion,
I am still backing him, parts of his approach irritates me, but he IMO is doing a good job, considering.
What do others think of our leader?

This is Ade's chance,
There is a reason why we signed him, IMO last season he was superb and on his day (remember the newcastle game last season?) he is completely unplayable. He has the potential to be our most prolific goal scorer.
As a bloke I get the impression he's a bit of a wally, his behaviour on leaving the goons and signing for citeh was poor. His 'stamp' on RVP was disgracful, his behaviour at citeh wasn't good, boycotting his national team. I have never had a great opinion of him and still I'm yet to be convinced.
There is a list of reasons why he should go. But who could we replace him with, who has the same potential?

Enjoy it whilst it lasts,
Bale is prone to dipping in and out of goal scoring form, whilst he's in that type of form and whilst Defoe is injured and Ade is finding his form, we need to be grateful of the goals we get, no matter the source.
It will be interesting to see AVB's choice, if/when we have a full selection of players, mind you that may be some way off~!
Rambro- I can just about remember being 21 and although it was a lot of fun at times, it can be quiet a difficult time. On one hand you are an adult and you're expected to behave as such, yet many people persist with talking down to you and treating you like a kid! It was a confusing time for me, I hope your kid realises how lucky he/she is to have someone like yourself to ensure they are ok. At 21 many parents have washed their hands of any responsibility.
Why did most of America want the 49ers to win? I know historically they are a big team, is that why? I tend to side with the underdogs, so I was rooting for Baltimore. Why are there so many fat American Football players? surely they are athletes (they're paid like athletes) why don't they look/behave like them?

B2S is right,
both of you (Sfer and JL) have too much to offer and contribute to waste your time slinging mud.
With Daffy out for a few more weeks, what are your opinions on who plays in his place? does Ade lead the line or do we give Dempsey a chance?
Where does Bale fit in? as a CF? playing 'in the hole' or would you prefer to keep him wide.
After much deliberation and with Daffy injured and Ade yet to find his best form, I'd give Bale a free reign, maroording where ever he wants. This wouldn't work in all scenarios and when Daffy plays I think it leaves us a little exposed, however Ade, Dempsey, Lennon and Holtby all offer much more to the team defensively than Daffy IMO.
With a fit Daffy, I prefer to keep Bale wide, in order to make the most of available space bring our other midfielders into attacking positions.
Thoughts?

Sfer, the only way this site will get busy again is if people start talking football instead of being critical of others. Sure, John does seem a little over reliant on stats, but it is easy enough to ignore if you find it irritating. There was a time when I had the odd run-in with Spursbabe but now find her input worthwhile. Either she has got better at putting her point across or I have become more tolerant....perhaps a bit of both.
I too found the site interesting but in my case I thought it had closed a few months ago, until I discovered they had just altered the layout of the home page and hid the message board link "off-screen" and I wonder how many others have done the same, or maybe I'm just thick.
Anyway Sfer, why not just go back to posting like you used to. I always found your input good reading and would welcome a return to the "good old days"...... unless Vito decides to invade us again with his plaguerisms. -

Nearly 3.00 on the 13th and not one post today despite a big European game coming up tomorrow.
Another few hours and I will indeed be able to say that to you Mr Locke.
I see you have toned down your pompous, statistic laden waffle filled posts and tried some simple sleazy charm in an effort to turn back time but it appears it is too little too late.
I wish it were different I really do. As I said, I used to love this site when there were loads of different opinions and friendly banter. Oh well. -

JL I hear you about the Bale show...unfortunately that's what it is at the moment. Also, while he's brimming with confidence he won't be laying many chances off to teammates...comes with the territory I suppose.
SB - Thanks for asking about my kid - seems to be turning the corner (it took, in part, me scuttling his trip to Vegas with me, for his 21st...that and a few other things).
Grid Iron - well as most of my years in the States have been spent in New Jersey, the Giants have always been my team...but as I live in Maryland now...Baltimore County in fact, it was hard not to get swept up in SuperBowl fever like everyone else in the city...so I was backing the Ravens all the way. Good game - I think the Silly-cone Valley nerds knocked out the power grid with a hack - wink...but it didn't work. Everyone but the City of Baltimore wanted the 49-ers to win; and had I still been living in NJ, I probably would have too! (Lastly, if Beyonce's half-time show didn't knock the lights out, a few piddlin' floodlights shouldn't!) -

I think there's more to this than meets the eye... AVB said "First he was authorised to come back on Friday" - do you know when any of the other Togo players rejoined their teams? It seems their national team have a whole load of issues which it would take a braver person than me to delve into!
It's been a stop-start first half of the season for him for loads of reasons, not all his fault; let's see what happens now before judging him. -

His pre-signing shenanigans, form this season, his attitude to his national team and this latest total lack of commitment to the club all demonstrate that the only thing that matters to Adebayor is himself, closely followed by money.
Don't rate him anyway, he needs 5 chances to get one shot on target only for the keeper to save, can't pass further than 6 yards and is generally unaware of those around him.

How on earth he managed to take so long getting back is beyond me. There were reports that Spurs also sent a private jet to get him. Insane IF true.
It's not as though there aren't regular flights to/from SA - even Ryanair and Easy Jet fly there don't they (well, they fly to Mozambique which is just a short bus ride away)? -

Reports have surfaced saying that Spurs have fined Ade for being late back from the African Cup of Nations. The reported amount is £160k. That's not even a weeks wages for him! Still he wasn't a week late returning!
From the little I saw on MOTD he appeared to want to play and had a hand in Bale's second, might even have scored if GB passed t him instead of shooting...lol.
