Live Comments

  1. 21/21 - Good luck for Randy de Puniet. His Kawasaki has ground to a halt on the warm-down lap. And Davies finished 17th.

  2. 21/21 - Melandri takes second, his best finish since Le Mans in May, and Pedrosa, De Puniet and Rossi round out the top five.

  3. 21/21 - Stoner slides his Ducati through the final corner... AND WINS THE MALAYSIAN GRAND PRIX!!! HIS TENTH VICTORY OF THE SEASON!!!!

  4. 21/21 - Rossi sets his personal best lap of the race, but it's too little too late. His michelins have not fared too badly. He's only about seven seconds behind Stoner.

  5. 21/21 - Into the final lap and Stoner's lead is 1.8 seconds.

  6. 20/21 - Stoner's got this one in the bag. His lead is back up to 1.5.

  7. 20/21 - Hayden edges inside his countryman Edwards for ninth place. He is on the recovery after that earlier gravelly moment.

  8. 19/21 - Stoner stabilises the gap. He re-extends his lead by a tenth.

  9. 18/21 - Forget about that. Let's focus on the leaders. Melandri takes a whole second out of him and is now only a second behind.

  10. 18/21 - That could well be the end of that battle.

  11. 17/21 - Oh no, De Puniet slides wide at the last turn and loses a few tenths to Pedrosa.

  12. 17/21 - De Puniet takes three tenths out of Pedrosa. Can he take his second podium finish in three races? His tallons are out anyhow.

  13. 16/21 - Vermeulen is back by Hopkins for seventh.

  14. 16/21 - Stoner sets a new lap record to re-extend his lead to 2.2 seconds. I'll say this one is in the bag now.

  15. 15/21 - De Puniet is keeping Rossi behind him pretty comfortably. Can Valentino get him by the end? It looks unlikely. Randy is looking suspiciously smooth today.

  16. 15/21 - Maybe it's not done yet though, Melandri reduces the gap to 1.6. He'll need to do a lot more than that if he wants his first win since Australia last year.

  17. 14/21 - Chaz Davies, by the way, is 16th, one place off the points. Nakano is the man ahead of him.

  18. 13/21 - Stoner has now increased his lead to over 1.8 seconds.

  19. 12/21 - Hayden gets Elias... NO!!! He misses his braking point totally and drops to tenth behind Edwards.

  20. 12/21 - The Suzukis go over the line side by side and Hopkins takes eighth away from Vermeulen into turn one.

  21. 11/21 - Stoner's lead is now up to 1.5 seconds over Melandri as we reach half distance.

  22. 11/21 - The Spaniard can't make his horsepower advantage count into turn one. Melandri holds on to second.

  23. 10/21 - Another fastest lap for Stoner. He's really trying to eke away now. De Puniet is starting to drop off the back of Pedrosa now.

  24. 10/21 - They're both Hondas, but they're totally different. Pedrosa's works bike has all the latest updates, while Melandri's Gresini bike probably has the better tyres.

  25. 9/21 - Is Pedrosa broken? Melandri thinks so as he shoves his way by for second place at turn nine.

  26. 9/21 - Stoner does the fastest lap of the race in a bid to break Pedrosa.

  27. 9/21 - Elias is now right on Rossi's tail. Memories of Estoril last year anyone?

  28. 8/21 - It's still Stoner from Pedrosa and Melandri in a line, but de Puniet is trying his best to stay on their tail.. and is doing it too.

  29. 8/21 - Kurtis Roberts is through the gravel at turn seven.

  30. 8/21 - Melandri has pulled right onto the tail of the lead pair now.... AS HAYDEN AND ELIAS GO SIDE BY SIDE INTO TURN ONE... LET'S HAVE A SLIDING COMPETITIION BOYS... spectacular stuff.

  31. 7/21 - Nicky Hayden sets the fastest lap of the Race. I wonder if he fancies a battle with Elias. They're the two most spectacular riders in the championship.

  32. 6/21 - West comes down pit-lane for his penalty. That's his hopes of a good result well and truly down the pan.

  33. 5/21 - Melandri makes a good move on de Puniet for third at the penultimate corner.

  34. 5/21 - Quick work from Rossi as he nails West for fifth into turn four... THE PAIR NEARLY TOUCH AND ELIAS GETS WESTIE TOO!!

  35. 5/21 - Rossi up the inside of Elias for sixth place at turn one.

  36. 4/21 - OOH!!!! De Puniet almost gets out of the seat at turn eight and Melandri tries to pass him into nine. Not quite Marco. That's lost the pair a few bike lenghts to Stoner and Pedrosa.

  37. 4/21 - We have a great battle for the lead as Melandri sets the fastest lap to close onto de Puniet's tail and make it a four-way fight.

  38. 3/21 - Rossi is up to seventh now, and Hayden has passed three men to lie tenth.

  39. 3/21 - OH NO!!! Anthony West has a jump-start penalty for the second race in a row. Fifth place down the drain.

  40. 2/21 - Hopkins goes onto the dirt at turn four and drops three places.

  41. 2/21 - Rossi goes over the line in tenth.

  42. 1/21 - OH!!! STONER GOES WIDE AT THE FINAL TURN.. PEDROSA LEADS... NO!! STONER OUT-DRAGS HIM BACK OVER THE LINE!!!

  43. 1/21 - Elias makes an error and loses four places...

  44. 1/21 - Elias scythes by his Gresini team-mate Melandri for fourth, and Rossi has slipped back to 11th.

  45. 1/21 - Good start from Stoner to grab the lead from Pedrosa and the fast-starting de Puniet.

  46. 1/21 - We're off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. 0/21 - And now back to the grid. The revs build, the lights flick on....

  48. 0/21 - We're away for the formation lap.

  49. 0/21 - Britain's Chaz Davies equalled his career-best qualifying performance and will start 17th on his d'Antin Ducati.

  50. 07:52 - What will be key today is whether or not the Michelins that are being used by Pedrosa, team-mate Nicky Hayden, and of course Valentino Rossi, will hold up in this heat against the Bridgestones of most of the rest. Remember Laguna Seca? Even the Dunlops had the edge there.

  51. 07:50 - It's Dani Pedrosa on pole, but he was less than a tenth quicker than Marco Melandri in third. Casey Stoner is the meat in the Honda sandwich on the front row.

  52. 07:00 - Good morning and welcome to LIVE coverage of the Malaysian Grand Prix. We'll be underway from 08:00 UK time.
