  10. 4' Rizla Suzuki man Capirossi is still fending off Honda's Pedrosa.

  11. 5' Rossi has a look but delays his attack. The adrenalin in the crowd is phenomenal - imagine that coursing through the riders' bodies!!

  12. 6' Lorenzo seems to have that 'x-factor' that all champions possess - indeed he is a former 250s champion - but can he see off eight-times world champ Rossi here? They are seven seconds clear of Stoner. It is all about them.

  13. 7' The gap between Lorenzo and Rossi is 0.2s. There are 1.4s between Casey and Andrea.

  14. 8' Stoner cements his third spot further. Behind them Capirossi is ahead of Pedrosa, with Edwards, De Puniet and Mika Kallio following. Toseland is 14th after passing Sete Gibernau.

  33. 25' WE ARE GO GO GO IN THE CATALAN MOTOGP!!

  34. - They are off on the warm-up lap. Are we set for scenes like those which accompanied Lorenzo's last-gasp pole? He has seemed unflappable - despite his former manager issuing death threats last week over money...

  35. - Lorenzo is a lifelong fan of FC Barcelona, champions of Spain and Europe. He has the Barca logo on the back of his bike. No prizes for guessing who the fans are supporting...

  36. - Briton James Toseland starts from ninth. Can he produce something special here outside Barcelona?

  37. - Injury-plagued Dani Pedrosa, the Honda rider who is 24 points behind Rossi in fourth overall, qualified eighth for his home race after crashing near the end of the session. He landed on his injured right hip in the gravel but did not appear to sustain any further damage.

  38. - Rossi: "It will be difficult because of the temperatures and difficult for the tyres but I think it will be good because we are competitive. The important thing is to get back on the pace, stay in front in the warm-up and have fun in the race. It will be a close battle but we know it is just one of 17 races."

  39. - Spaniard Lorenzo produced a storming late qualifying lap to pip Fiat Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi to pole, while championship leader Casey Stoner qualified third on his Ducati.
