Live Commentary

  1. - Rossi unveils a huge gallery of photos chartering his career in celebration! Meanwhile, James Toseland takes sixth, and the Brit will be delighted with that, fending off a host of riders after a real scrap for that spot. Thanks for joining us!

  2. 0 Valentino Rossi wins in Assen! The Italian storms through to clinch a comfortable victory! Lorenzo takes second, Stoner third and Edwards fourth.

  3. 1 Rossi is absolutely cruising out in front, while there looks to be little potential shifting of the order with Lorenzo followed by Stoner, Edwards and Vermeulen.

  4. 2 Elias has picked his way to eighth, while Capirossi sneaks past De Puniet. Kallio continues to press hard in seventh, but Toseland hangs on for now.

  5. 3 Niccola Canepa joins Hayden in coming off the track proper, taking the alternative route, while Toseland remains in sixth, with a very impressive ride.

  6. 4 Nicky Hayden is not having a particularly good afternoon, dropping to 11th and struggling to exert his authority on proceedings.

  7. 5 With five laps to go, Rossi leads from Lorenzo by over four seconds now, with Stoner nine further seconds behind in third.

  8. 6 Colin Edwards looks to be consolidating fourth place effectively, almost five seconds ahead of Vermeulen now.

  9. 7 Elias and Capirossi scrap it out fiercely for 10th spot, and the Honda wins that particular exchange.

  10. 8 Jorge Lorenzo is close to three seconds off Valentino Rossi now, as the leader further extends his lead out in front.

  11. 9 The epic battle for sixth place continues, as Toseland, Kallio, Hayden and De Puniet fight it out.

  12. 10 Stoner is a good 10 seconds off Rossi in the lead, and the Australian is not causing much of an impact up front.

  13. 11 Kallio nips into sixth, with Toseland being outmaneouvred on a tight right-hander, and there is a big battle in that area of the field.

  14. 12 The gap between first and second is virtually two seconds again now, as Stoner and Edwards follow, with Vermeulen in fifth and Toseland in sixth.

  15. 13 Rossi is looking very composed as ever, with the Italian further consolidating top spot, while Stoner is finding his early pace once more after a lull.

  16. 14 De Puniet is putting pressure in turn on Hayden, as the middle group become increasingly compact. Kallio remains in seventh, but is not putting much pressure on Toseland now.

  17. 15 Nicky Hayden is up into eighth and is applying pressure on the group ahead of him, including Toseland - the Ducati rider has recovered very well.

  18. 16 The yellow flag is out as a second Honda is pushed off the track, meanwhile Toseland is pushing very hard indeed in sixth.

  19. 17 Casey Stoner is dropping off in third, and Lorenzo and Rossi have space now up in front.

  20. 18 Rossi has a gap of #plus;1.655 between himself and Lorenzo, who is upping the intensity in second place. The crowd are loving this intriguing battle.

  21. 19 De Puniet is into 11th at the expense of De Angelis, and Kallio and Capirossi have a right old tussle for ninth.

  22. 20 Edwards is looking good now in fifth, while Dovizioso is lurking ominously in sixth, finding a good pace to pressure Stoner.

  23. 21 Edwards is back into sixth, while Hayden and Toseland are up into seventh and eighth respectively. Rossi creates a new gap of #plus;1.620, as he pulls away.

  24. 22 Rossi leads by #plus;1.441 from Lorenzo, with Stoner in close attendance in third. Dani Pedrosa is out of the race after sliding off into the gravel.

  25. 23 Vermeulen and Dovizioso are holding fifth and sixth respectively, as Colin Edwards slips down to seventh.

  26. 24 Pedros and Lorenzo slip down a spot after Stoner's surge early on, and Capirossi is also finding a good pace.

  27. 25 Stoner and Rossi briefly exchange the lead, but the Italian is out in front as the order settles down slightly after a typically frantic start.

  28. 26 We are underway at Assen, and Stoner, Pedrosa and Lorenzo fly out of the traps to put the pressure on Rossi.

  29. - World champion Valentino Rossi produced a searing lap to grab pole position for the Dutch TT at Assen, and all eyes will be on the Italian in this race.
