Live Commentary

  1. 0' That's it for qualifying and Pedrosa has taken pole, with Lorenzo second and Stoner in third. Thanks for joining us.

  2. 0' The flag is out and Lorenzo has re-taken top. 1:33.979 - the first rider under 1:34! Rossi stays in third. Pedrosa coming in for his final lap and the Spaniard has timed it beautifully as he sets new fastest lap with 1:33.974!

  3. 1' Rossi has another lap to try and improve his placing.

  4. 2' Stoner has taken over top. 1:34.049, but Lorenzo is still out there so don't bet against him re-taking pole positions with just over a minute left!

  5. 4' Melandri out on his spare bike. Not his favourite machine but can he improve his time?

  6. 7' Rossi's turn now and he's scorching round the Le Mans track. The great man needs a good split here and he moves into third! 1:34.227 for the Italian. Lorenzo still leading.

  7. 7' Stoner and Edwards are back out and its looking pretty hairy out there. Both riders are going well and pushing for that top spot.

  8. 11' Stoner is out again, as well as Lorenzo and the Spaniard set the fastest, 1;34.141, just outside the lap record held by Rossi. Its that pole for Lorenzo?

  9. 15' Pedrosa's just moved up to the third row of the grid as he goes third fastest. 1:34.747 for the Spaniard on his Honda.

  10. 18' Pedrosa out now and he'll want to take over from Dovizioso as the fastest Honda.

  11. 21' Stoner and Takahashi are out. Stoner on a mission here and he's back in front. 1:34.300.

  12. 27' Melandri has had a spill and looks like his bike has picked up a bit of damage. Hope his team has enough spares to get the Italian back out for another effort to improve on his eigth place.

  13. 28' Vermuelen is back out again looking to close the gap on Edwards on his Suzuki.

  14. 29' Toseland is back in 10th and has a bit of work to do with less than 30 minutes of qualifying remaining.

  15. 33' Edwards lowers his time again and the pressure is right on Stoner now. 1:34.652 now for the American on his Monster Yamaha.

  16. 36' Edwards the first to break 1:35, has the American just secured pole position? 1:34.945

  17. 38' He's done it: Stoner fastest by half a second as he sets out on another lap. 1:35.183 for the Australian on his Ducati.

  18. 39' Stoner's lap keeps him in third spot but he's going well after two sectors of latest lap.

  19. 41' Stoner is back out and will want to move his Ducati back into top spot.

  20. 45' Finland's Mika Kallio has taken over at top of the lap times with a 1:35.741 as france's Randy de Puniet sets a ninth fastst lap.

  21. 47' Rossi takes over from Stoner as pace setter with a 1:35.803.

  22. 49' Edwards and Toseland are going well but as it stands it's Casey Stoner setting the pace with a 1:35.831, the first rider to go out in the 1:35s.

  23. 54' Qualfying is underway and we have a number of leaders in the first few minutes. Melandri is the fasest so far with 1:39.525.

  24. - Sadly we have already lost Spaniard Sete Gibernau for the remainder of the weekend after the Grupo Francisco Hernando rider fractured his collarbone in practise earlier today.

  25. - America's Colin Edwards on his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 set the fastest time in second free practice this morning with a lap time of 1:34.966, ahead of Spaniard Dani Pedrosa, who was almost half a second behind on his Repsol Honda.

  1. Well, well, apparently we have an interesting top four­ here. This is a race worth a butchers'. Out Big­ Four awaiting the red light to go off just in front of­ it.

    I think Il Dottore has a good chance for winning,­ but so does Stoner. Lorenzo is sure to give it a burl,­ and Pedrosa - Pedrosa cannot be overlooked either. I am­ on the Spanish side, though.

    Congratulations, mates.­ We've been promised a race full of rushing­ adrenaline.
