Live Commentary

  1. - A devastating pole position for Jorge Lorenzo. Just a remarkable display. James Toseland seems to enjoy the second row of the grid - sixth for the Briton.

  2. 14:55 Last chance now - Pedrosa is a few tenths off but goes second. Can Rossi hit back?

  3. 14:53 Another astonishing time by Lorenzo - that 1:35.715 gives him a half-second lead over the field!

  4. 14:45 Ooooohh! Jorge Lorenzo takes evasive action to dodge the dowdling Chris Vermeulen, and yet somehow still manages to set the fastest lap so far! Amazing!

  5. 14:42 Ouch! Loris Capirossi loses the back wheel and slams to the ground. He appears to hit his head on the ground, but miraculously he springs back to his feet and seems to be unhurt.

  6. 14:34 Toseland briefly goes to the top of the pile but is quickly shunted off by Dani Pedrosa, who is the first man ever to go under 1:37 on this track.

  7. 14:27 The flying strawberry is quickest through all four sections and goes quickest. He is after a third consecutive pole.

  8. 14:23 Randy De Puniet misses his braking point and rides off into the gravel, but soon rights himself and gets back on track. The Frenchman is quickest.

  9. 14:22 Toby Moody and Julian Ryder on Eurosport TV are having a chuckle about Jorge Lorenzo's nickname: the flying strawberry. He is so called because of his bright red helmet, which is sponsored by Chupa Chups lollies.

  10. 14:16 There is no doubt that the pneumatic spring engine that now sits inside the Tech 3 Yamaha is having the desired effect. Colin Edwards and James Toseland are third and fourth.

  11. 14:09 Impressive start from Toseland, who goes fourth with a 1:38.218. Valentino Rossi has already set the fastest lap of the weekend up front, however.

  12. 14:01 Colin Edwards set a time of 1:37.5 earlier today, so don't set too much stall by these early times. Meanwhile Sylvain Guintoli hits the deck. Doesn't seem to be too much damage but that will certainly compromise his qualifying efforts.

  13. 13:55 Under way! This promises to be an intriguing session. If you haven't heard yet, James Toseland has had his contract renewed for 2009 by Yamaha Tech 3 after just two races in MotoGP.

  14. - We will have live timing and text commentary of MotoGP qualifying in Estoril from 1.55pm!
