Live Commentary

  1. - Thank you for joining us this evening. We are back at 5pm tomorrow for live coverage of all three races from 125s to MotoGP! See you then...

  2. 20:55 That's the end of the session, with no big players on flying laps. No pole for Toseland but an excellent front-row start.

  3. 20:53 Lorenzo fastest!! The Spaniard cuts short the British celebration - it looks like James Toseland will be denied pole position.

  4. 20:52 Rossi sets his quickest lap but it will only take him as high as seventh.

  5. 20:49 Stoner is on a quick lap but gets hold up behind Toni Elias! The Australian not happy - he'll try again.

  6. 20:48 Not much movement at the front - has the temperature dropped too low for a run for pole? We will see. Meanwhile Nicky Hayden goes to 6th.

  7. 20:44 10 minutes to go and it is still James Toseland leading the way ahead of his fellow debutant Jorge Lorenzo. This bodes well for a tremendous race.

  8. 20:40 A lot of riders in the pits at the moment, although Lorenzo and Pedrosa are among those on out laps. 15 minutes left in the session.

  9. 20:37 Top Honda - Randy de Puniet, who has just gone fourth fastest!

  10. 20:34 Lorenzo blows Toseland's lap clean out of the water, but then the Brit responds with a 1:54.182!! Brilliant!

  11. 20:31 It is all very close at the top but Toseland is still on top by a few fractions. And remember, the track cooled by about 5 degrees during yesterday night's session, so that time could be hard to beat.

  12. 20:28 Casey Stoner's team-mate Marco Melandri is dead last at the moment. Troubled times for the Italian...

  13. 20:24 Coming up to halfway in the session and Toseland clocks a 1:54.720 - very good from the Brit but no improvement.

  14. 20:21 Anthony West runs wide. He had a major spill last night and was lucky not to come off worse. The Kawasaki clearly struggling for grip.

  15. 20:19 Dani Pedrosa is down in ninth and is having a miserable time here. Yesterday night he had a big spill after running into the back of Valentino Rossi.

  16. 20:13 WOW!!! James Toseland clocks a 1:54.562, which is the fastest lap of the weekend so far!! That may have been on a qualifying tyre but what a lap.

  17. 20:11 Stoner continues to lead from Jorge Lorenzo, who has been highly impressive this weekend. Valentino Rossi third, followed by Colin Edwards, Loris Capirossi, Andrea Dovizioso, James Toseland and Dani Pedrosa.

  18. 20:03 A nice lap from Stoner to hit the front early on. 1:55.615 his time which is half a second slower than the time he set earlier today in practice.

  19. 19:57 Casey Stoner has set the pace so far this weekend - Ducati looking good. Essentially it comes down to their superb top speed. The Yamahas of Lorenzo and Toseland were hammering away at them yesterday but were losing two or three tenths on the final sector. The champion will be hard to beat.

  20. 19:56 This is of course taking place at night - 11pm Qatar time - under floodlights. A spectacular sight.

  21. 19:55 The session is under way! It could be an interesting hour - the track is cooling so expect plenty of action early on.

  22. - Welcome to LIVE coverage of qualifying for the first MotoGP of the season. The session begins at 7.55pm, so join us then!
