Live Commentary

  1. _ So, that's the 125s out of the way. Fingers crossed that the 250s and the MotoGP will have better luck here in Losail.

  2. _ The race has been declared as over, and that makes Andrea Iannone the winner... of sorts. That doesn't stop him and his Ongetta team celebrates the 'victory'! Julian Simon and Sandro Cortese get second and third, with everyone recieving half points.

  3. _ The rain has stopped, and the safety car is doing a lap of the track now - with Valentino Rosii in the passenger seat. The Italian is checking out the visibility, which doesn't look promising, it has to be said.

  4. _ With every minute that ticks past with the rain still falling, it's more likely that the 125s will be declared a result. The priority is to get the MotoGP race started on time if at all possible.

  5. _ So, as it stands the order is : 1 Iannone; 2 Simon; 3 Cortese; 4 Espargaro; 5 Smith; 6 Folger; 7 Terol; 8 Bradl.

  6. _ Race organisers are deliberating what to do now. The rain has abated a little, but as the riders have completed more than three laps the result will stand if there isn't enough time to restart this one. Riders who are currently occupying points places would get half points.

  7. _ The rain is hammering down now, as hard as it has been all weekend. A rather inauspicious start to the new season.

  8. 14' Simon has fallen off but the red flag has been waved already.

  9. 14' Simon creeps past Iannone on the inside and takes the lead!

  10. 14' The rain is getting harder now and, sad to say, the prospect of the red flag going up is highly likely.

  11. 15' Marc Marquez has crashed out! He hit the edge fo the astroturf and flipped high into the air! He's ok, but he's out of this one after being in third place.

  12. 16' Julian Simon has moved up into second with the fastest lap of the race so far as a few spots of rain begin to fall in Qatar.

  13. 16' Espargaro has moved up the field and is up into third place.

  14. 17' Iannone has a .956 lead on Terol as he completes his first lap. Bradley Smith is down in 8th, in fornt of compatriot Danny Webb.

  15. 18' Iannone remains in front from Terol and then Folger.

  16. 18' Iannone leads the way from the start. Bradley Smith has dropped right down the order though.

  17. 18' The green light goes up and the 2009 MotoGP season is underway!

  18. 17:57 The riders are going round on their warm-up lap around this brightly-lit circuit, so we're just minutes from the start.

  19. 17:56 Hello and welcome to Eurosport-Yahoo!'s LIVE coverage of the 125cc race of the Qatar GP!

  2. I despair of Bradly. He qualifies well to get on the front row of the grid. Then time and time again he proves he's the only rider there with a reverse gear on his bike !
