POLE FOR LORENZO!! He cannot improve his time but it doesn't matter! The Spanish crowd are loving it - a home one-two with Lorenzo and Pedrosa at the front. Valentino Rossi is well beaten by his team-mate and will start from the second row in fourth.
0' De Angelis is off but it won't affect the other riders' final laps.
1' Rossi comes through for a penultimate lap... no improvement.
3' Pedrosa comes within five hundredths of pipping Lorenzo but just misses out! Spectacular stuff here.
5' Jeepers! Lorenzo goes even faster! 1:38.933 puts him half a second ahead of fellow Spaniard Dani Pedrosa. Valentino Rossi comes in for a last-ditch tyre change.
6' Rossi goes third! 1:39.711 for the world champion, who has struggled with his qualifying.
7' Loris Capirossi is back on the provisional front row as he dips under 1:40. The big guns are coming back out from the pits for one final thrash.
9' Elias is on target for a personal best... 1:40.628 is better and it places him 11th.
11' WOW!! Pedrosa goes quickest with a 1:39.483, but then Lorenzo instantly snatches pole back off him with a 1:39.266 - almost as quick as last year when they had 'proper' qualifying tyres!
13' What a lap by Lorenzo, who is half a second up after three splits... 1:39.675!! In front by over four tenths! Great lap from the Yamaha!
16' How close is this? There are six bikes within two tenths of the lead. This is shaping up for a thrilling finale.
19' Cracking lap from Loris Capirossi on the bright blue Suzuki. He is ahead of Pedrosa at the first two splits but misses out on thwe fastest time by less than two hundredths... 1:40.131.
20' Valentino Rossi fires a warning shot going into the final 20 minutes. His 1:40.272 puts him second.
22' James Toseland has had a quiet weekend, but he clocks his best lap so far - a 1:41.209 to go 13th. Meanwhile Nicky Hayden runs wide and nearly goes off.
25' Lorenzo clocks a 1:40.283, which is his best by two tenths, but he stays second.
27' Not many fastest times being set - the teams perhaps just experimenting with their settings a little.
30' Stoner, as always, is right on the limit and gets a little out of shape as he comes round a fast left-hander. He manages to control his wobbly Ducati...
32' Pedrosa continues to whittle his time down, although he did a 1:39.4 this morning so there is more to come following his session-best 1:40.114.
35' Pedrosa is on top again with a 1:40.272. Stoner is down as far as seventh but still plenty of time remaining. The weather looks set fair for the day.
40' Jorge Lorenzo is the early pacesetter with a 1:40.804. But expect those times to dip well under 1:40 as they did this morning.
45'
The session is under way - 45 minutes to decide the makeup of the grid for the Spanish GP. They nearly all come straight out under blue skies in Jerez.
- Dani Pedrosa set the pace this morning from Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner - three different manufacturers at the top of the pile. It should be a good weekend.

Live coverage of Spanish GP qualifying will appear here from 13:05 UK time!

I have seen Rossi take time out many times to talk to people, lovely guy - great racer. If he doesnt win again this year there is no god !!!
rossi is good, but i am better,i will have to give more time to training him,he needs to listen to me,he looks like a little monkey, mind you most italians do,all you ladies, all my love,i only wanna be with you, grand prix result,1 rossi,2 lorenzo,3 stoner,4 pedrosa, and what is hayden doing, talk about an overated rider,i think he is scared of speed, bye for now,you will miss me,love gus
Valentino is truely amazing,I have seen it all and he is the main man...who cares about stoner, just a wee punk in diapers... estupendo for the italian stalion... Ciao Ciao Valentino...
Rossi will win, for sure! Go, Rossi, go!
Rossi is God and whether theres 1,2,3 or 10 riders with the same pace theres only 1 who can ride round any problems with the bike or tyres or in any conditions, consistancy is the key to winning the championship just ask Hayden he was world champion without winning a race. Rossi is the greatest of all time, Stoner is a talentless tit with the best electronics GO ROSSI !!!!
chadders who cares if u dont like JL n love VR? what you got to live with is that ithe new generation is improving rapidly than expected rossi knows that! the news is that Rossi tried to scared jore but the kid doesnt seem to brake plus Jeerez is not Stoner's favorite track as he has been poor there before! pedrosa seems be stronger than a year ago! this three one of them will be champions this year but rossi will be there fighting fot it but i wont win it this year!!he is too much used to be chased by a sinlge rider now he has three with the same pace and probably are fast enough to beat rossi in breaking n straight lines! now if u dont like it now can hate me too because Stoner is the man who is gonna make rossi crack soon
Go-JT

Rossi is not only fast, but a fantastic human. Rossi took time out to escape the crowd in Jerez Friday to meet Jimmy a 12 year old Boy in a whelchair, suffering from Duscenne Muscular Distrophy. Rossi signed his t-shirt and had photos taken.
Thanks Rossi, This has been Jimmys highest Wish for a long time.
Brgds, Brian Nielsen (Jimmy's dad)
